So big news out of Xavier today. Chris Tarrant signing on for 2014. How many could he kick? How old would he be know?

He'd be 33-34. He was one of those fly in-fly out footballers last season playing different clubs in different leagues. I recall that he kicked 7 for a one-off game in Tasmania at some stage last season (for North Launceston i think). He pocketed about $10,000 for each of these one-off appearances.

Whats the VAFA take on these sort of cases? Going way back they would not accept registrations from those who had previously gone away from the VAFA for cash and then returned. I no times have changed and Im sure his registration will go through without a hitch, and ultimately its good for the VAFA (high quality big name player) but would be interesting to see what the constitution says about amateur status these days.

Im pretty sure that chapter in the Constitution had been "airbrushed" out years ago...............

Yeah, i couldn't see there being any issue in that regard. That law was relaxed a while ago now if i recall correctly.

It was definetly in place in the mid 2000's when ex-Melbourne player Brad Hall was appointed coach at Ivanhoe and had to sit a year out as he had come from Vermont in the EFL.

So what he go with Chris Tarrant, howmany games will he play with Old Xavs in 2014 or is it his normal one off match?

If the rumours are true, then he will sign and play most/all the season i would imagine. Xavs would not waste their time on a player to come in for one game, and wouldn't benefit like clubs in other leagues last year did, as the whole reason for the one-off games is to boost gate takings for these games. There are no gate takings in VAFA football, and Xavs is not exactly what you would call a struggling club.

History shows he ( CT) was hard work for any of the AFL clubs he played for and thats when he was on BIG money!!
Hows he going to go playing for NOTHING!!! (if you can believe that). Be very interesting indeed.

Won't work.
VAFA clubs are all about culture and buying in, I can't see this happening with Tarrant. But, happy to be proved wrong.

Don't forget that CT's manager is an old xav stalwart not to mention his brother Robbie went to xavier. I don't believe it's over the line yet but it's likely with another club who has recently lost an ex afl player to a coaching role still in contention. Buying in, not buying in. Irrelevant. If he is keen on playing footy he will be an attribute. Especially teaming with Goss and Handley down forward. Speaking of ex AFL. Awaiting confirmation of two big names at the Aquarium. Don't dismiss the pulling power if Mifsud.

Nice work Riverman. Good mail there. So we are not talking in riddles it is well know that the other club in the mix is Doncaster. They have lost Nathan Thompson but have gained Ben Johnson, one of Tarrant’s best mates. I think they might have the inside running.

Have heard a few ex AFL names thrown up at Beauy. Raph Clarke looks very likely but the other I heard has signed at another suburban comp. Any names you want to give us?

I know that Jason Blake keeps getting thrown up to go to Beauy, but from what i hear he is more likely to be playing for Uni Blacks this season (along with Simon Hogan).

Correct and correct. Penski with his finger on the pulse. Haven't seen Hogan but hear he didnt set the world on fire at airport West? Still, will help with the outs the Blacks have had from 2013 (McCauley, Richardson etc.)

Hogan was solid at APW without starring, he shoud be a handy pickup in any event.

I noticed Jake Calvert was on the transfers a few days ago to St Bernards but has been denied. Incorrect paperwork or something more? would be an okay pick-up otherwise. I'm assuming its the Jake Calvert from Frankston (VFL).

Have heard Jake Williams and Luke Howard are not playing at xavs as well. Tarrant should increase female numbers through the turnstiles.

I hear Xavs have picked up some rippers.... No names as yet....

I would have thought if you had heard that, you would have some names to go with it?

You'd want them to have picked up some rippers if the rumours on departures are anything to go by. Only rumour and innuendo on many of these, but Ambrose x2, Wynne, Bate, Ball, Mecuri, Tagliabue (and i see Williams and Howard mentioned above) are some big name outs.

Ambrose playing Xavs when not playing Essendon, Wynne the same at Richmond VFL, Ball playing I hear. Williams & Howard playing. Cam Purss back & Chris Smith are the rumours...
