Chief, what do you think makes Uni Blacks a yo yo side?

Well they get up for the Big 3 games, but when it comes to the rest of the sides, they dont seem to put them away convincingly.

They have had narrow defeats to the top sides, and have even beaten Caulfield convincingly, then next week they just lose to the reformed OB, but then they lose to beauy. I mean they should be smashing the sides out of the top 4. But they arent even in the top 4. Sitting on 6 wins and 6 losses, its fairly yo yo, hot and cold.
Im talking about their form though, they seem to drift in and out of games. They had brightons throats in round 5 i think it was. Up by 4 goals at half time, and OB were sitting on 1 win and had just lost to marcellin the week prior. But they got blown away by 40points.

They have the ability to be anywhere in the top 4, and they are currently amongst the middle teams, only just above marcellin.
Tell me if im wrong, just an observation.

Round 5 (Caulfield), 6 (Old Brighton) & 7 (Beaumaris) a time when Uni weren't at full strength at all - ran Caulfield close but then losses to the latter two, Beaumaris very strong team that day. By Round 8, team was beginning to settle and better results ensued but fact remains of double losses for the season against both Old Brighton and Beaumaris. The upside for them in the short term is they have played twice, teams sitting 1st, 3rd and 4th. I'm expecting a finals berth although with current injuries to a number of key position players, one career ending if I heard correctly, they won't want to slip.

This week brings up St Bernards, who are sitting in a position similar to 2010, badly needing to string some wins together. The pit is hardly a den these days with only 2 wins from 6 outings this year but the game last week against St Kevins looked top shelf.

I feel Woolnough is going through the 4 year blues (or blacks) - saw him a few weeks ago and his messages are seemingly falling flat on a few of his old playmakers. Also disenchanting for a few in the magoos, as stated a few weeks back can't believe Holt is not getting a run in the 1's and now Heeley.
If one of these guy's don't get a run this week then I think he is just starting to flog a dead horse - needs to gain uplift pressure by dropping a few of the players that have just switched off especially in big games - this may start to drive increased consistency in their games leading up to finals.

I know he was devastated with the boys in failing to go 7-5 and put a gap on a couple of sides so I think their season and his 2012 contract maybe on the line in the next 2 weeks.

Only other loss, Marcellin as you have mentioned.

Private eye, I understand you believe they were under strength, but so was Brighton, infact comparing their results, i think probably hit the worst at the start of the season. But even if Blacks did have injuries, still cant argue that their form is up and down. They lost last week to Beaumaris. Thats twice now, Twice to OB too. Your running around with a full squad, and Beauy still had Blacks measure, so the injuries at the start of the season, didnt impact the results at all.

Blacks ability is through the roof, but if they played like they did against the top 3 sides, theyd be clear cut forth, no questions. they just throw away the easy games. You couldnt put your house on them against the middle teams.

Chief, you argument has a few holes in it, they were 10 goals down at half time vs St Kevins last time they played. Maybe they just arent good enough, everyone hopes their team is the best, but some are better than others, ala Caulfield. No doubt the fact that they have 2 sides in the high levels of the VAFA dilutes things.

University Blacks 1 2 3 7 9 10 14 12 96
St Kevins 7 1 13 4 16 7 18 8 116

With you there Brisa, that's scary but good on the chief for putting it out there.

I think they could give Heeley a run - certainly has the ability. Which guys do you reckon have switched off in big games there CC? I'd struggle on that one, and I've seen most of their games.

Brian, Doesnt this infact help my case, that Uni Blacks are a yo yo team.
They drift in and out of games.

Im not having a dig at them, I'm saying they are a force, but need to be consistant, because if they become consistant. They could steal this premiership.

A couple of very interesting games this week as the fight for a finals spot really hots up.

Old Brighton vs Beaumaris
Marcellin vs Old Ivanhoe
St Bernards vs University Blacks
St Kevins vs Caulfield Grammarians
Oakleigh vs Hampton Rovers

A reminder for all lovers of tradition and followers of fine football.

Oakleigh's home games (Firsts, Seconds, Under 18s) this week are on at Warrawee Park (DW Nichol Reserve) in the heart of Oakleigh. Map 69, F6 in the Melways.

This is to honour the life and contribution made by one of the founding fathers of our Club - Mr Des Baker.

A triple header commencing:
9.20am (drop by as you are taking your morning stroll with the dog) - 3rd placed Under 18s playing a very competivie Werribee who are lying 4th. Both in form teams, Oakleigh coming off a win against 2nd placed Williamstown and Werribee going down by 7 points to top placed Rupertswood last week.

followed at:
11.40am with the Reserves v Hampton Rovers in a battle for pride. And if that doesn't capture your imagination, head over to the nearby RSL for the Presidents Lunch (midday till 2pm).

2.00pm - The Seniors step out against a resurgent Hampton Rovers looking for their first win of 2011. These encounters are invariably close and with Hamptons showings of late, the Krushers will need to be at the top of their game.

A day for the family, bring your kids along and enjoy a fun day.
