Both the Old Carey bookends played against Bernard’s last weekend. Will clearly be very high quality at B grade level. OC will be strong. Bernard’s will be strong. As will Blacks and Monash. Should be a very good B grade competition.

Frearson surface was excellent. No doubt.Old Trinity had the wood on Monash all day last week. OT a very good unit, and great skills in the windy conditions. Was an.entertaining contest. Monash have St Mary’s Salesian this week - don’t think we have played them since 2003. Not the perfect hit out I would think, but I am assuming they will be some way off - might be wrong.
Frearson a clear contender for best surface in VAFA. Monash will have had 3 practice games on it this preseason, and it’s pristine.
Like every club this year, Bernard’s will be very upbeat. Would clearly hope to go one game deeper than 2017, but Blacks, Carey, Beauie and Monash will have equally high expectations. Best to assess after round 2 - given Bernard’s play Monash and Carey in the first two rounds.Vince the VAFA is a great standard but a looong way below VFL. SKOB would be beaten by 20 + goals by any of the VFL teams I witnessed last year. Any Bernards people want to comment on the chances this year? I understand the school is still producing plenty of footballers.
Don’t worry about Beaumaris, they’ll struggle.Like every club this year, Bernard’s will be very upbeat. Why?Schade is old news, however he won’t play one real game there this year, if ever.
Why?
It will be interesting to see what Old Carey/Schade/VAFA/AFL Vic do as i believe this has occurred in the past and as long as the player has not already been paid by the other club, that i think a clearance will eventually go through as the VAFA don't have contracts as above so are not beholden to them.Ok. Thanks. Well, for what it’s worth, he played. And played well. I am not a fan of local footy clubs not releasing players - as amateur clubs are unable to use that. We don’t have contracts. Anyway - would clearly be a solid addition for Carey.
Ill give it a goOk. I am going to see if we can’t get some comment and banter on this awful thread....

grapevine says they have recruited very well. Not necessarily with 'big' names, but with quality, having said that Nathan Page, ex scorpion team of the decade member is a pretty big name. I don't think he is all that old either.Wh

Agree they have 2 young guns from Ormondgrapevine says they have recruited very well. Not necessarily with 'big' names, but with quality, having said that Nathan Page, ex scorpion team of the decade member is a pretty big name. I don't think he is all that old either.
They were also quite a young side which should have a fair bit of upside.

Fathers an Ormond legend and has played there since Auskick and has played a few in the Seniors. Was told by Sandy not to play D1 and still has plenty of mates at Ormond.Hille went to Caulfield Gr and is just playing with mates
Its a disgrace that VFL clubs could be so demanding. We have players playing at clubs they barely know anyone.Fathers an Ormond legend and has played there since Auskick and has played a few in the Seniors. Was told by Sandy not to play D1 and still has plenty of mates at Ormond.
Its an absolute joke, another one went to DLS as is training at Richmond. Told Dimma about it at last weeks praccy and he was seething and he said how are we ever supposed to climb up the grades, he hates all the TAC shit as it's soft. Its a disgrace that VFL clubs could be so demanding. Thanks for a measured response . I don't know what local clubs can do up against the big school sides , which just seem to be getting bigger. The VFL hate anything below B Grade. Caulfield lost a few to Uni Blues when we dropped to C after 2015 due to Coburg & Richmond demanding they drop back no further than B. Hence the importance of staying in the top 2 grades.
But it is a nasty cycle, as you can't get there without the talent. We were lucky 15-20 years ago that some quality Grammarians came back from AFL/VFA to help dig us out of E Grade and get back to the top flights.
