I bow to your superior knowledge on Prem ‘C’ matters Maxie as you see games first hand on a weekly basis. As does Scruffy, Bedders and a few others. However, if there’s a better FF than Andrew Brazzale I’d haven’t seen him. If it wasn’t for Andrew and Rob Maibaum, Canada’s love child wouldn’t have the flags he has to his name.

Agree with Ben Phibbs as the coach. Despite Mounzer11 suggesting he had a better list than Black that’s not my understanding. For a first year coach he’s been outstanding.

Got a suggestion for the best Team Manager but I see there’s no such category.;)
Am
Here what your sayin re Brazzale but this year there's 3 or 4 in front of him and its TOTY as in 2016.

Fair enough. As I’ve said I haven’t seen anything like the amount of Prem ‘C’ football you guys have. Still, Brazzale has snagged 39 goals in a team that hasn’t performed that well. Plus he’s been used as a high forward quite a bit I’m told.

Bellers v Snowdogs.

Which reminds me, where are you Rooster 24?

A very infrequent poster these days AM.

While I’m here – great to see Luke Gogis tearing it up in C grade. I expected he might as he showed some promise at De La but when he could not get a permanent gig in the seniors he unfortunately moved on as he thought his opportunities were limited. Knows the coach and mates with his son so Ormond was the club of choice. Could sure use him right now. Hope to see him back as he will be wasting his time in D grade.

Hope the frequency increases. That said Jimmyjack is a switched on DeLa man so we aren’t bereft of info from what was once Dairy Bell.

bedford. Note the bolded. They are sneaky those DeLa people.:) Don’t want another Tim Allan episode.

Entirely different situation AM. Tim Allan went to De La but played all his juniors at Ormond against a handful of infrequent appearances at De La over several seasons. He can certainly be considered an Ormond boy (albeit he has now chosen to earn some coin in the country). Gogis only went to Ormond this year, as he wanted to play senior footy and thought his opportunities were limited at De La. Still young (20 or thereabouts) so will either decide to be a big fish in small pond or realise his potential and play at a higher level, in the VAFA or elsewhere.

Left on good terms and understand it was a flip of the coin between Ormond and the Krushers. Chose the monders due to a relationship with Ash Lever and his son.

Hey Canada .. Can you give me the maple bet market for D1?

I want to have some of the trust fund on the Oggs.

Is wrong thread, but as 2 of these teams will be in C next year..ok.

OM's - $2.40
OGGS - $2.60
PEGS - $5.30
Therry - $10.00
STMS - $75.00

Thanks Rooster. I hope the lad doesn’t read this but you can’t blame a player for wanting to test himself at a higher level.

Phew! The consistent rumour floating about was that Maplebet had gone into liquidation and the firm of liquidators were chasing the founder and principal who had allegedly absconded with multi millions and was now living in the Cayman Islands.

Where are you posting from btw?;)

No AM, all under control and above board. Just relaxing at home watching the cricket. With Aus batting last now, SL are firming favourites. $1.60, Aus $2.10, Draw $10.00.

Signed for next year, prefers club footy. That is all.

Suggesting he has 'signed on' for 2017 in July is folly Bedders and you know it. If Lever stay on as coach then I expect he will also. If not then he is long odds to remain.

Where are these VAFA contracts of which you speak?

No amateur player "signs on". That's complete horse poo.

And with that, I expect Lever to be staying on. Great coach, has been a victim of circumstances with injuries and overseas departures.

Would agree with that comment Bedders. A good coach and an equally good bloke but the circumstances you speak of impact almost all sides. If relegated, which looks highly likely, will he be subject to any scrutiny?

As mentioned if Lever stays on then the chances of the young bloke doing likewise are far greater, however he is not ‘locked’ in yet.

Agree the coaching set-up is an important ingredient in a players decision as to where he plays, Rooster. But it’s not the only one. The atmosphere around the place, the friendships you make, the way your football is being developed, the quality of the support staff et al are among other considerations.

The club has not only been hard hit with injuries this year there have been other major disruptions too. Their training facilities have been torn asunder with the grade separation at Ormond taking the secondary and important oval. They have had to travel all over the place to play games as well. It's been a very difficult year all round.

I know waaaay less than Bedders but I’d be surprised if there was a senior coaching change at the Monders. I’ve also heard the club is likely to have a much better on-field presence next year. In fact, I might pop into Maplebet and put a dollar or two on them for the 2017 D1 flag if the odds are reasonable.

Agree with all that AM and understand they have had some additional challenges this year. Ash Lever is a good man and well suited to lead them in 2017. But the relationship with the coach in this case goes well beyond the usual due to family friendships and associations from previous clubs.

I’m not suggesting they are accepting of this but at some point Ormond have to stop the yo-yo culture that has existed recently. If they drop this year will that be 4 relegations across the last in 7 or 8 years? Ouch !!

Need more commitment from players. Fields had one at Collingwood vfl and one at Port over summer but players and the new coach convinced them to come back and be part of the effort to get back up to B. Only one player has gone OS. Fingers crossed they do it

Big news for next year for the CYMS, apparently Tom Price who is a pure athlete (formerly a tennis player) will be changing codes to pursue a career in football. The perfect mix of speed and endurance has been told by a number of clubs to play a year in the vafa and then they will pick him up as a category b rookie.

If I look at the Stats, I believe Bedders team has had the most players play every game. Just thought its worth noting.

My understanding is the club is very cognisant of the up-n-down stuff over recent times and that is why there is a concerted effort being put in at this point to address that very matter.

Again (just second hand) if some of the planning for next year comes off it will not only be on the basis of an eye to 2017 but beyond.

All that said, district clubs have a harder road to hoe. It is no accident that there is not one district team in Prem ‘A’ and it has been like that for a long time. School teams and the Universities have a considerable advantage due to the base they have readily available to them. Not insurmountable, just considerable.

There are many players who come through the Monders very good junior program who have the heavies put on them from their schools when they come of age – so to speak.

It should be said that while your club has managed to stay in Prem ‘A’ (credit to you) it’s been quite a while since you were a powerhouse. It ain’t easy!

Not that long AM – last year in fact. Remember Beaumaris? And I fully expect they will be back in the top grade again next year.

I completely agree re the difficulties in staying at the pointy end. Even harder for un fashionable ACC old boys clubs such as ours to compete with the elite uni’s and APS schools. Simply don’t have the same networks and the better students get picked off while still at school. We just have to accept our lot and do the best we can.
