So? You are claiming it's Dan's fault for Gladys not locking down quickly enough. That's just stupid logic. He was all for nsw locking down and imposing rings of steel. Just wasn't willing to do it quickly or sufficiently enough on his own people. Especially those with strong lobbying power in the Victorian labour party like the construction industry or the politically important border towns.

And these campaigners threw a shitfit when Dastyari told someone to turn their phone off.....

Three devastating letters leading off today in the SMH Letters page.

‘Neocon waffle’: Premier’s ideological fixation exposed by Omicron

The abject failure of the Premier to adjust the reopening plans to changing circumstances is at the heart of the mess that we are in. We have gone from almost everyone fully vaccinated to almost everyone needing a booster, but let it rip anyway. We have gone from clear, consistent messaging about masks and check-in to neocon waffle about “personal responsibility”; from a superb contact tracing system to one that takes over a week to notify people if they need to test and isolate, if at all. In a few weeks, something that was actually working has been wrecked because of this adolescent fixation with the free market and private profit. That’s why testing queues are ridiculous, that’s why tens of thousands are isolating instead of celebrating Christmas/New Year and that’s why thousands of businesses are shuttered for want of staff and customers. So much for the “Premier for business”. It’s like they left the work experience kid in charge, and it’s not working. - Chris MacDonald, Surry Hills

When the government made the decision to remove restrictions and let the virus move freely through the community, it needed to first provide the resources to manage the consequences of their decision. Those who sacrificed their Christmas Day to stand in a queue do not deserve to be treated like this by their elected leaders. We’re doing our part. Time for our leaders to take responsibility for their part. - Celia Ziegler, Maroubra

The ineptness of the Prime Minister and Premier in handling the current COVID-19 situation is mind-blowing. Throwing it back on us to be personally responsible rather than just leaving mandatory mask-wearing and QR check-ins in place is an abrogation of the responsibility to lead and a cynical ploy to blame us when it goes pear-shaped. - Melinda Backhouse, Woodford

Nsw government is demanding that women from 37 weeks must have a covid test every 3 days?

why?

are they going to deny them entry into hospital when they go into labour if they have covid?
i think it would be more around where patients go to in order to minimise cross contamination risk
otherwise (and this is based on Vic experience and may not be relevant to NSW)
- patient rocks up to hospital in labour
- the maternity ward only accepts known covid or known not covid - they won't admit someone who is awaiting test result, they don't want to put a negative with the positives, or positives with the negatives
- result is patient sits in the great waiting area (otherwise known as the ED) while awaiting test result. And doing labour in a suboptimal environment

ok that makes sense. still it shouldnt be a requirement then. Just a recommendation to avoid being put in ed While in labour.

isn't that what it really is? if the pregnant woman doesn't do the test, then the ED process occurs i f she goes into labour. Which most women i think would want to avoid.

the NSW govt website specifically states anyone with a health need, inc pregnancy, is to be supported in the NSW system regardless of covid/vaccination status

noone is being turned away

its more where does the care get given - and (again based on vic hospital policy currently, may not be correct for NSW) you don't get admitted without a negative test. Now my hospital had been allowing negative RAT if you had no covid Sx, but we have recently got our hands on the Liat PCR machine, which can give a PCR result in 15 minutes - the down side is it can only run one test at a time (compared to batches of tests being done with the other PCR machines). So now wards waiting for the PCR result before admitting patients (this situation does seem to change depending on Liat availability - ther was a bit where the machine went offline and so we went back to RAT for asymptomatic ward admission - symptomatic patients/ known close contacts needed to get negative PCR first to be admitted to non covid ward

And psychiatry who are run by a different health service insist on a PCR result before admission.

Known covid patients who are "not that sick - ie not needing ICU/ not in physiological concern criteria" get direct ward admission and pretty much bypass ED.

Another 995 people in Sydney given incorrect negative results by St Vincent's Hospital pathology.

Heads absolutely need to roll for this.
Yet as of 3.35pm eastern, brad hazzard is still employed

Vic press corp would be leading a march to burn down Andrews house if this happened in Vic.

PM, Hunt and Fraudenberg would all have interrupted leave to hold pressers by now condemning the state government.

BTW, NSW health still hasn't added the absent 400 to the tally. One wonders if this has occured in the past and simply not been publicised?
