Fields are pretty happy Gus Styles has committed to a full season at Glenhuntly in 2022. He was pretty handy in the 2 games he played this year.

Tate Short too a full time player in 2022. A very handy pick up for the Fields. They will be strong once again.

Jungle drums are tapping out the rumour Disco Seccull also a monty for pulling on the boots this year.
Your post probably tongue in cheek OTP but despite playing short most weeks Disco resisted the urge to pull on the boots for the OH 2s last season so not sure he will be placing them up in 2022. Would have to mid /late 50s by now. Have little doubt he would have given a good account of himself anyway.

I know this is Premier board but little else going on so while on the subject of OH, have said it before but I just cannot understand how a club affiliated with such a massive APS school has such appalling depth and struggles to fill a reserves team each week. Just defies logic. And don’t give me the scholarship or “school leavers play at the elite level” line. AFL and VFL teams are filled with OX and SKOB products and they are not shy about scholarships either. But they both have more teams than they can manage or have ground to play on. At the risk of triggering Bedford I think SKOB had 4 x U19s teams last year and both clubs had (at least) four senior teams. My clubs affiliate school has barely 1000 students (about a third of Haileybury) but comfortably fills 3 senior teams and multiple U19s.

When I was still running around OH were in the middle rungs of the comp so I know little about the club or culture just never understood the disparity and apparent unwillingness of OH students to play for the club. Can anyone explain?

It was very tongue in cheek JJ.

Agree with the culture and depth comments, I knew nothing about OH until the "bought" premiership in 2006 and subsequent fall from grace, and there hasn't been a lot of positive news since (other than the annual ribbing about Disco).
Haileybury run across 3 campuses - Berwick, Keysborough and South Rd, Brighton.

There’s little connect between the 3 academically - so they don’t socialise much outside playing compulsory sport.

The fact the top 10 of each of their Year 12 graduates usually end up playing AFL or VFL for the following 4 years adds to the disconnect upon graduation. Usually those who join the old boys are fringe 1sts / 2nds players at school. Hence they sit where they are (lower B/upper C).

Their students come from a far wider area than the more eastern/bayside concentrated APS schools like Scotch, Xavs, Collegians, Caulfield, OMs & OBs.

Less than 4 weeks until round 1. There will be plenty of anticipation over the next few weeks as to what transpires.

Bring on season 2022.

I see the boys from Toorak Park have added another ex AFL ruckman to their stocks after Holmes has departed for the US.

Shaun Hampson is playing at Xavs this year.

I don't think his Father would be happy with those comments as it's a slur on his role at Ormond ! i know where the no brain is

I think the reference was more it is a no-brainer to be playing at Premier section rather than Premier C if you want to get a run in a VFL side, that's all.

I agree in a way , but Gary Ayers never had a problem , said players are happier with their own club and mates . Also i don't take much notice of that off shore betting account .

Ayres probably never had a problem as Port rarely released their core senior players back to their local clubs. Having said that most of the non-aligned VFL clubs are generally less concerned about the level of local football whereas the AFL aligned clubs seem to insist on Premier. We discovered last year the perils of being relegated and lost 4 decent VFL players as a result. Coincidentally 2 of those to Old Brighton, despite neither attending Brighton Grammar. It is what it is but cannot dispute the fact that playing Premier is a better preparation for VFL football than B or C grade.
