All they need to do now is play Strachan over ROB seeing as though we contracted him. ROB is a big lumbering dud. Hopefully this resigning also means ROB is to be traded end of 2023.
There's a reason ROB's ahead of Strachan, he's a much better ruck, and would beat Starchan in almost any athletic challenge you can think of.

I don't quite get the Strachan extension.
He's played 5 games at the age of 27, and is unlikely to go past ROB in preference and we aren't going to play two rucks with Thilthorpe in the side.
Gather he is cheap ruck insurance.

Rightly or wrongly the club see ROB as "good enough". I don't think they think he's fantastic, but he's good enough to hold down the role, under contract for 3 more years, so we'll use spots elsewhere to develop.

I don't see us going back to the ruck well until maybe 2023 but probably 2024 draft. Right now with a ROB/Strachan combo locked in until 2025 and having Thilly and Himmelberg and even Murray in a real desperation situation I don't think it's seen as a position of need to invest in.

A fit Milera to hb would be the way to fix it. Apart from the Carlton game this year that's where he's played his best footy.

Felt like they wanted Milera forward of the ball to get someone decent delivering the ball in to the forwards. If we've got Rankine/Rachele up there now, as well as Dawson on a wing pushing it forward I think we'd be better covered and could use Milera more at HB.

I actually think his agility, evasiveness and ability to create open play out of congested situations is more impactful down back since he can potentially open up the entire field forward of centre with it, where if he's forward everyone is usually already compacted into that area of the ground.

With the possible exception of "jumping"
And kicking
And marking
And actual rucking..

ROB’s greatest asset was his intercept marking around the ground. But it deserted him for large chunks of this season.

ROB cant kick, his technique is embarrassingly bad. ROB makes horrid decisions. And ROB is a poor ruckman.. gets beaten regularly. Shit, even Silvagni made him look bad in game 1 against carlton this year..

Strawnie is a way better kick both with field and goal kicking.
Strawnie is a great mark.
And strawnie can ruck better.

But ROB gets the gig because the fools running the show blew their load too early when ROB had a massive 2020 and so they offered him a huge new contract.

Now they will continue to put him before strawnie in the ruck pecking order or they will look foolish. Cant have a bloke on the contract ROB’s on playing in the SANFL..

I wonder if Rankine and Rachele in the F50 ends up improving Newchurch's chances of playing. Showing a F50 with a couple of ultra offensive, speed weapons may open the eyes of the selection committee on ways to utilise Tarieks strengths. Rather then focusing on his weaknesses.

Fingers crossed anyway. Would love to see a kid with those natural gifts start to figure it out. Not sure i can even remember a Crow with that level of raw pace at his disposal

I don't think Stachan is any better than ROB in this regard... Mutineer, you've watched a fair bit of SANFL footy - who would win this contest?
I'd like us to play Strachan more, if for nothing more than to give ROB a kick up the arse and/or a freshen up. There's no question he got too comfortable and his effort levels dropped. He played a few really good games after being dropped but soon dropped away again.

And kicking. ROB rucking is overrated. Murray could break even in the ruck to the same extent ROB does. Add in the fact that ROB is the master of tapping to the opposition. He is better not winning the tap tbh.
So ROB's no good at jumping but he still manages to win the taps? So actually his jumping isn't an issue, it's his ruck work?

Wow, this Strachen bloke sounds awesome...why hasn't he played more than 2 games as a 27yo?

I'm inclined to agree, but I don't want to leave it any later than 2023, given the development lead time.
