We’ve got enough talent to be pushing towards the 8, just need Nicks to develop a gameplan designed to score and win, not reduce the size of our losses.

When your best area of the ground is your forward line, it would be criminal if we don’t play an attacking gameplan.
I think the opposite. I like our game plan but we don't have the talent to pull the whole thing off.

We play contested, which we can pull off.

We also try to play attacking once we get possession, but lack the talent to pull it off. I think it was late in the Collingwood game (for example) where we kept getting attacking chains and looked great, only for one weak link along the way to turn it over or miss an opportunity to score. Some of that was a lack of class and some just young kids that couldn't maintain the high level.

II think I'm in the minority, but I don't mind nicks as coach (game plan wise). I don't like a couple of his selections, but the main issue is we don't have the right players yet imo.

We also need to prioritise players with a decent skill level....

The thing is he changed the game plan, so yes we attacked against Collingwood but after the big losses against Carlton and GWS he went defensive, Dawson was pushed further into defence, we had Hately on the wing and we pushed our small forwards up around the contest. That’s the only reason we were good at winning contested ball, because we had more numbers around the ball.

Have a look at our points scored, early on we kicked some high scores and against some decent teams, then it dried up and our high scoring games came against West Coast and North, both shit teams.

Yeah a bit. The Hately era of 2022 was weird. He's not near the 22 especially on a wing. One of the bizarre selections and a waste of time.

Came off as "your form demanded selection (and not many others were), but you're not in our plans as a pure inside midfielder at this point".

I sit in the camp of if Hately was good enough of a midfielder to demand to be in our best 22, he would have found a way to perform solidly on a wing (like Soligo has done). He has the tank, the height to be a marking option and a strong enough contested game to at least build an argument that he belongs somewhere in our plans.

is it me, or is the AFC going out of their way to not show any actual video of Rankine training?

I think I've seen some laps being run and thats it.

Perhaps trying to temper expectations, which is probably a smart move, if intentional.

Is he fully training?

I know he was not able to participate in contact drills in late November due to his shoulder surgery.

Seriously what is with the Hately revisionism? He tore the sanfl up, played a few decent games including one very good one as an inside mid, and was then (unfairly) pushed to a wing to accommodate Crouch being in the side, where he did okay but not great. He's a 191cm bottom ager, it's a bit early to be writing him off.
