Which of these players do you think will be selected in the Crows' Round 1 team?

Geelong have needed a decent ruckman for more than a decade and haven't bothered with anyone any better than Stanley. Instead they've just pottered around being incredibly successful.

Ruck is the least important position on the ground, and barely impacts whether your side succeeds or not.

Both grand finalists just traded for one when the need arise. We should do the same in a year or two.
The Cats did draft a young developable ruckman in the 2021 draft bud..early 2nd round which is quite high for a Ruckman that was going to take time.

Again missed the point and you didn’t answer the question
I'm discussing the value of rucks and the point of spending draft capital on them.

Geelong have occasionally used a pick on players like Neale - drafted ruckmen who they rarely play.

They PLAY Stanley, and they played Ottens - both premiership rucks they traded for. Sydney played Hickey (and sometimes Ladhams) - traded.

Spending draft picks on ruckmen to take a list spot for five years is fine if you've got list spots to burn, but is wasteful otherwise when you can instead do what the VAST majority of grand finalists have done the last decade. Trade for one when you're competitive.

Sure.

They've used picks in Shannon Neale and on Conway.

My point is there's no evidence that you need to be developing your own ruckmen through drafting them to be successful.

In fact, the majority of successful sides recently have traded for their rucks.

Personally, I think rucks are almost irrelevant and replacing ROB is a very low priority - and when it becomes a priority in a couple of years, we absolutely could do it through trading.

Did you read his post bruh? Ned was in the main team and Pedlar in the probables ie Ned ahead of Pedlar.
The probables is the main team surely. Be a bit ****ing confusing to have 3 teams running around in a game.

Edit: of course you've seen this by now. And it could have been put a bit more clearly

You injected yourself into an argument where apparently the club sees ROB as serviceable at best but not worth the capital on getting a new ruck. Now that capital can either be as a trade or draft. You’ve given examples of clubs trading for a ruckman and clubs have also drafted ones, we’ve done neither. Think about it, of all the clubs we are practically the only club who hasn’t. Do you think we are that good and smarter than all the other clubs? Has history backed that up?

Instead we’ve been stuck giving games this year to a guy who was clearly out of form, he said it himself.

And you can’t be serious given some of the duds we’ve drafted over recent years and given years too, we couldn’t afford ONE pick on a ruckman?

How can you call yourself a ruckman if you barely ever tap the ball directly to your team mates or, at the very least, to their advantage..

He’s just another fine example of the crows believing they have a gun player simply because he has a very high workrate..

A high workrate means fxxk all if you dont have the talent, skill, composure and poise to go with it.. all it ends up with is you wasting shitloads of energy to inflict fxxk all damage to your opponents.
Rob tapping it down to keays would have to get you up and about wouldn’t it?

Richmond won three flags with a completely mediocre ruck. Sydney, Western Bulldogs, GWS were all grand finalists, and all had mediocre rucks. Nic Nat didn't even play in WCE's flag.

Having a good or mediocre ruck has almost no impact on the success of your side.
Ruckwork (especially taps not to advantage) is somewhat overrated imo but a Ruckman who can turn into an extra mid, take marks around the ground and also go forward and kick a goal or two is a game changer. ROB is average at best. The sooner we get Riley and Himmelberg interchanging through the ruck the better off we will be. Riley could likely turn into the best ruck in the league in time as he can play as that extra mid.
