Lycett by a mile. Ryder has had one good year.

Lycett hasn't done too much yet ( I think he will ) but Paddy was good last year and with Burgess working on him there maybe be a significant improvement on what he has done at the Bombers. Angus Monfries went up a level under Burgess and Ken and I'm thinking Paddy will do the same. Not turning it to a knock on Lycett would love to have had him at Port as well.

I just wonder if a little Port birdy didn't get into his ear earlier in the piece...Subliminal thought planting, hypnotism and the like.

Brings up and interesting question though...Would you rather Lycett or Ryder?
Obviously Ryder is the better player right now, but we have Ryder+ on our list already who's been an AA ruckman. Lycett gives us something different.

With Naita we don't need a Ryde type, Lycett will be more like a Cox which should be a great team with Naita.

Obviously Ryder will be solid for Port.

Ryder provides a more athletic option and allows Port to play 3 rucks Lobster Paddy and Trengrove.

Good luck with that!

Paddy is a top pick up for Port though I reckon. Something will have to go seriously wrong with your year to not go top 4 in 2015. Port play a pretty dashing brand of footy too so they are good games to watch as a neutral.

I'm glad we held onto Lycett. He's obviously got the size and build to bash and crash as much is allowed these days and you got to love a big guy who chases and enjoys crushing opponents with heavy tackles. Should be a great partnership with NicNat with their complementary strengths. Even incremental improvement from Lycett this year would be great as he will be playing so much more but he looks like he has the potential to break out which would be sweet!

Port will be premiers in 2015, then they might go back to back or Ablett will catch them. Sad to see port get a player that can combat our biggest advantage. Out of all the players in the AFL, Port would take Ryder 1st then maybe they'd grab an E-MAC

Who was the fool who was harping on about all the hysteria involving Lycett leaving again? Saying he was never in doubt ant this board was hyseric.

Lycett, 22, says he was tempted by a lucrative offer from Port Adelaide

“That really spurred me on and once I got that taste I wanted it more and I told the club I would wait until the end of the year to decide what I would do, whether Coxy went on or not.."

“That came into my consideration and, to be honest, I was just after playing games.

"I need to add another string to my bow and marking has been a strength of mine."

“I’m not satisfied with the way I finished last season and I’m looking to get better and hopefully I can take my game to another level.

But to be a one-club player would mean a lot to me and my family.

“I came from the middle of nowhere and I was raised on values of loyalty and respect, so if the club wants me play there until I’m 35, I will do it happily.”

“I don’t see myself as waiting for four years to play because my first couple of seasons I wasn’t ready.”

My favourite parts from that article. Looks like we've got ourselves a keeper.

It's also great to see his drive to get better and the fact that he knew he wasn't ready early on. I really think more draftees and fans need to realise that players at 18 aren't necessarily ready for a few years.

Scott and I have been working really closely on his personal development since I became his sponsor. We expect he'll be a permanent fixture in the eagles squad until - roughly - the 2038 season.

Bodes well for Lyzza.
