Culley played as a mid last game and has played as a mid for a long time. Hutch is a mid sized forward.

The issue isn’t just we have a lot of tall forwards - it’s that we are going in with almost no mids in favour of them.

Culley in the team over Hutchinson gives us another mid rotation that I can imagine we will desperately need when Essendon’s mids pull our pants down.

I’m assuming Hutchinson will be the sub so who else does Culley replace as a mid rotation?

Saying Culley has played as a mid for a long time isn’t supported by facts

He only shifted into the midfield for Dandenong to start 2022 before we picked him up in the MSD

Then played midfield with us in the half dozen or so games to round out 2022 in either the WAFL or AFL

Started 2023 as a mid but was playing as a forward by the time he did his ACL. Then he missed 13 months

Began this year in the forwardline when he returned before eventually moving back into the midfield

Has played forward with us as often as he’s played midfield

Be interested to see what changes you’d like to the selected side (or anyone else for that matter)

Dewar / Harvey over Hutchinson for sure.

I'm going early on this. Barra/Simpson conspiracy against Bailey Williams proves out.

He has the athletic profile of Jamie Cripps, the aerial ability of Liam Ryan. Replaces neither. So,

I thought you might pick me up on "long' time but he is still capable of playing mid is my point - whereas Hutchinson isn't.

I would have Culley in the selected side over Hutchinson with Jones as sub and Maric up the ground.

Leaves us less tall up forward with a more versatile sub in Jones

We got absolutely destroyed in the midfield when he was attending the stoppages. There’s a reason he was shifted out of the midfield in the second half and subsequently dropped. We performed significantly better once he wasn’t in there. Unfortunately he had negative impact at the stoppages which is what he was selected for. 3 contested touches and 0 tackles in the first half is horrible.

He was decent around the ground but as an ‘inside mid’ he was trash.

Personally I hate players getting selected for one game and would have liked to see him get another game without sheed.

We got utterly destroyed in the midfield for the first 3 qtrs, but you can’t blame that on a young bloke coming in for his first game in 12 months.

We can’t completely blame him and like I have said I multiple times I think he should have played again.

But there’s also no point pretending that he wasn’t awful as an inside mid.

Late change coming in hot. Someone's carrying a niggle and is a test at the captain's run. I suspect a tall. Culley may just play yet.

Source? If someone was in doubt, normally we’d take an extra emergency.

Forwardline looks ways too tall, I’ll accept that, but with no Sheed and no Gaff I’m surprised at just how furious people are.

Culley for Hutch an easy change for me, and apart from that it’s pretty much the best 22 with TK and Harley to return for Culley and…Maric? Witherden? Rotham?

It’s not a mile away from who we’d pick given a blank slate, surely?

Reid and Kelly for Hutch and JJ I guess next week.
Hewett and Long the others we are missing, thats one or 2 of Maric/Darling replaced or maybe Petch?
Definitely not far off

I think a lot of the issues people have with our best 23 go away once we get players back from injury, we have none of our better talls injured, but 4 of our better smalls out

I'm not even mad about it. Its just amusing we're going in with so many tall forwards and how am I not going to share "Simpsons Paddock." We may never see it again. Combination of genuine refusal to drop Darling for team balance and our b grade mids all being snails so just not playing them. I think it'll make for interesting viewing.

Personally I think we got the Culley for Hutch one right. I think it would have been smarter to play Allen in the Wafl for a bit of match fitness and so we're bringing him into a team where Harley and Kelly are available. Failing that probably push Darling out with a made up niggle and play Trew or Edwards. It's completely fine we chose the side we did though, I want to see it even if just once.

Allen almost a certainty to just be parked as our deepest forward
This week, 100%.

Going forward, we'll see. Waterman was kicking bags earlier this season still covering 14-15km, so it can work when it clicks.

Having only 3 midfielders in the team this week is completely f***ing ridiculous. Whether it's because our match committee genuinely believe they picked our best team or we have no midfield options left on the list worth picking due to piss-poor list management, it's still f***ing ridiculous.

I think it’s this one, plus injuries/suspensions to Reid, Kelly and potentially Hall (playing through it at WAFL level but with a brace on if I remember correctly and looks very one sided).

The Culley for Hutch call is one I think we’d all like made. Easy decision. Apart from that I don’t really see who could come in to this side (this week) to change the equation.

It’s semantics but we’ve picked 4 mids - Yeo, Ginbey, Chesser and Hunt

Reid, Kelly and Hewett all injured (+Sheed)

LEdwards available but coming off a concussion and no game time in a month

Hall working through a hand injury as a first year player

Trew punched the midfield coach’s son in the guts

Could’ve played Gaff to make it 5 if made people feel better (Narrator: It wouldn’t)

Johnston behind Chesser and Hunt as a winger

But let’s blow up about only 3 mids

Yeah, it doesn't help that we have 3 midfield list spots being taken up by Gaff, Sheed and a seemingly had his papers stamped Trew. Puts you behind the 8-ball before the team's even picked.
Culley clearly not viewed as a midfielder (and I would think heading back to Victoria at the end of the year).
I think this ends up our biggest loss of the year.

It's semantics but you could try reading the last line of my post.
Also Hunt is not a genuine midfielder imo

So 100 points or more?
