So far in their careers waterman’s peak has been higher than Allen’s peak. It’s an interesting situation.

That is questionable.

Waterman from 95 games has one game with a rating over 20, his PB is 20.8.

Allen from 83 games has four games over 20 and his PB is 23.6.

Don’t be too quick to forget how good Allen is when he’s firing.

Let’s just enjoy them both and hope we can watch them both firing, at the same time, for the next few years.

The nickname "Hutch" will always mean Mark Hutchings to me 😍

Picking that many tall forwards to me shows Simpson is piss weak
doesn't have the guts to drop one of them when clearly he needs to for team balance
it's not like we're flying & so stacked that they'd all be unlucky to miss out
this mindset is somewhat to blame for our efforts over the last 3 years
time to go Simmo

And, on top of this.

I did read some stats somewhere on the Interweb high showed our forward line pressure was very low compared to other teams. Now we have gone with land of the giants - things ain’t going to improve.

Hutchinson is 190cm

He’s not a tall forward

Is also shorter and faster than Culley so it’s odd to complain about us being too tall or slow because he’s sub instead of Culley

Pretty clear we’ve prioritised pace with the selections -
Rotham over Edwards
Hunt over Gaff
Brockman over Sheed
Maric over Culley

We’ve gone in with a somewhat makeshift and inexperienced midfield but that’s largely due to circumstance. Kelly and Reid unavailable. Sheed injured but most wanted him dropped anyway. Gaff too slow and there’d be harsher criticism if he was retained

Could have brought Hall in for his first game but he’s still playing with a wrist brace and it’s hard to see him having more impact than any of those selected. He’ll get his chance in due course

Trew unlucky again I guess but as with Hall it’s hard to say with any certainty he’d have more impact than those selected

Culley likewise and maybe he could’ve been retained ahead of Jones or Brockman but that costs us leg speed. Personally, I like Culley so I’m sad to see him miss out after fighting so hard to get his spot but I can understand why he’s missed out

Our forward line of Allen, Darling, Waterman and Maric is no taller than Essendon’s of Wright, Jones, Langford and Stringer. Williams and Draper also cancel each other out for height

We’re actually trying something different, albeit partially forced, but still people are pissing and moaning about it

I don’t mind the changes at all and those playing midfield do so in the knowledge that we get Reid and (hopefully) Kelly back so the worst two will be getting replaced

I was on the ranting and raving train but you've won me over.

Gaff dropped is a positive sign that that we're prioritising the future.

I sure hope Culley gets another shot at it soon though.

Hutch to the midfield.
Allen to finally realise his midfield potential?
Gotta fit him in somehow. ;)

Listed at 191cm and 83kg, Allen is a similar size to the likes of several big-bodied inside midfielders like Nat Fyfe, Patrick Cripps and Marcus Bontempelli.

And in his final WAFL colts game for the year, Allen put on a midfield masterclass, booting one goal from 27 disposals, 16 contested possessions and 10 tackles.

Allen knows if he is picked up by an AFL club that where he plays will be what’s best for the club, not necessarily him.

And if an AFL club wanted to develop him as an inside bull, he’d “love that opportunity” to emulate the likes of Fyfe.

“The way they push forward from stoppages and are able to use their marking ability, which I believe is one of my strengths — that’s something I try to emulate in my game, to be a little bit more physical around the stoppages when you’ve got a bit more size than others,” he says.

People who have faith in Simmos game plan and what he is doing probably need to look at the ladder right now. No injury excuses anymore, just a bloke who doesnt have the ability to integrate young players into the team. Not a good quality for a coach at a club rebuilding
And the acceptance of mediocrity. I know people complain about some of the older guys getting picked but geez, there are some younger guys where it clearly appears are not up to it. There is one guy who has played over 80 games and has only two times surpassed 20 possessions in his career. There is another who has played nearly 30 games and has never got 20 possessions in a game, not once!.
Every player on our list should be getting tried out to see if they can fit in at the AFL level. It’s nonsensical playing guys week in, week out who are not cutting it. The club is essentially wasting time and stymying any regrowth.
It’s puzzling 🤨.

The only real crack he’s had at being a focal point, Allen kicked 53 goals in 23 games for one of the worst sides in history this year.

Waterman on pace for 63 in an improved version of that team. Certainly a good problem to have, if Waterman can keep this up we’re onto a winner.
Yeah waterman is certainly playing in a better team which would have an impact. But I also think waterman has offered more outside of goals than Allen. AFL player rating has waterman 50% better than Allen last year.

More meant waterman’s best season has been better than Allen’s best season. Waterman’s rating of 12.5 is significantly higher than Allen’s 8.5 last year.

But yeah you are right Allen seems to have had more big games.
