Any idea how many tickets they allocate to members?
Given the AFL and MCC reserves are about 45k seats, leaving 55k for club members, think that would mean at least 25k sold you would think considering not much was left for sale at 3pm for the public. there will also be at least another 15k between the AFL and MCC who are cats so should be a solid 40% of the crowd (with 10-20% being neutral)

Also, with the wins against Melbourne, they tend to have the word over the Dees, having won 7 of the last 8 games between the two sides, including the Queen's Birthday clash last year when the Pies finished 17th and the Dees won the flag. Sometimes teams just match up better against other sides, and Collingwood - Melbourne is an example of that.
It's not their fault, but they happened to play a lot of mentally weak sides.

The Melbourne one gets full merit regardless of being the Demons bogey side.

Carlton and Essendon had shambolic endings that any competent side would've put to bed. North choked in a way only a team that poor could.

They were the three really lucky escapes where opposition handed it to them in the last quarter. I don't doubt that on their day they can lift - I expect a strong showing. But their regular season form has been patchy for a top 4 side.

Terrible time for overseas supporters to tune in.. why not just make it a night game

Well I missed out on tickets for the match.

Incidentally, what gives with the AFL? Was looking at the GF packages and noticed that one has 'privileged access to a genuine money-can’t buy experience', which, they are, um , selling for money??

I suppose they could mean 'money' as in cash, and they don't accept cash? In that case, my local cafe has genuine 'money-can't buy' coffee

That's another thing, they expect you to fork out $4K and they cant be bothered to proof read? I will accept "money-can't-buy" or "money can't buy", but wtf is "money-can't buy".

Interesting game....

Lets be real. cats are the best team in it.
based on form, its theirs to lose.

But no one actually knows how far they are the best due to their draw?
any home game = 4+ goals. So are they awesome? or just doing what they have to at home?
suspect its in the middle.

Cats supporters want to remind us of round 3.
Scott was absolutely correct about how we played in round 3. Unsustainable.
We knew it too. Hence we changed.

We've adjusted in that we no longer play the way we played against them.

love ignorant cats supporters who think we're the same......!!

wanted to say this for a while...
We basically rope-a-dope teams now.
We dont ever run as hard in the first as we don in the last.
we dont take the risks.

After getting run over by the cats, we keep teams within a length.
Isn't it funny how we play the last qtr unlike any other qtr?

the first few rounds we went crazy from the outset.

Our close games have been because we have changes this.
yup. sure, we've had some luck.

But i love the ignorant cats supporters who want to to call on round 3 as a window into this game!!

It should be remembered that it turns out the Cats have had a phenomenally soft draw. If Elliott missed his shot, they wouldn’t have had a second game against any top 8 team.

They have done pretty much everything right, but they haven’t had too many tests either.

Krock podcast mentioned that the club members bought a record amount of tickets for a QF. So hope that bodes well for a 50/50 crowd.

The problem will be Collingwood scooping up the GAs and AFL Members. I reckon it’ll be 70/30 their way.

Left field call, can anyone see a scenario where the MC pick both Stanley and Ceglar. If so who would miss? I think Cegs is a potential in to replace Rohan in that situation. I would still like to see Rohan get the gig though.
If JC is not up, I can see Stanley KF/Ruck, Ceglar Ruck/bench/KF

Until we win a qualifying final I will not be attending, I can’t stand our record after a bye, hopefully it will be over next week
Know how you feel.
I'm saving all my hard earned for the GF.
If we don't get there, I haven't lost much.
If we do, I will need to have saved- very expensive are 2 GF seats.

I define a fluke win as when you win and any of the following factors play a significant role:
  • you get an unexpected performance out of your player(s); Or
  • the opposition plays badly and essentially “gifts” you a win

An example of the first category would be the 2018 prelim when mason cox basically had the best game of his life and won the game for Collingwood.

Look at collingwood’s wins this year and I would argue that in the following wins mistakes from the opposition played a huge part in them winning:
Rd 23 vs carlton (atrocious conversion by Carlton and a shambolic last 2 minutes)
Rd 21 vs melbourne (terrible conversion, they should have been out of sight in the first half)
Rd 19 vs the Essendon (some of the worst game management in the last qtr that I have ever seen)
Rd 17 vs north (a really bad team that didn’t know how to win when it was dominating the game)

And that list doesn’t include single figure wins against s**t sides Adelaide, hawthorn, carlton again, port Adelaide, Gold Coast.

Plus they beat Essendon earlier in the season by 11 points when Essendon had 4 more scoring shots.

And let’s not forget they were beaten by west coast in Melbourne when the eagles were a shambles.

They were flogged by the bulldogs and richmond.

By my count they have had 2 quality wins all season:
Rd 10 beat the Dockers by 36 in perth
Rd 15 beat Melbourne by 26

That is it. 2 decent wins.

I think it is fair to say that there is a large element of fluke about Collingwood 2022.
Love your posts, but disagree.
Pies have made last quarter wins an art-form, and having watched all their wins, almost come to expect that last quarter blitz.
The Demons game was scary- they kept in touch all night, despite Demons seeming to dominate, then, BANG.
And they have done it so repetitively, it is simply not a fluke.

Thing we know and can expect
By all measures Cats are a better team.
Cats will gain control of the match at some stage.
Expect the pies to lift an make a frantic to steal the game.
Biggest worry is Cats gain control early ... then relax.
Allowing Pies to gain momentum late in the game spells danger.
Regaining momentum is near impossible due to crowd and umps.
Cats must maintain structure, composure and intensity all game.
Avoid being suckered into playing their rushed contested game.
Especially avoid overuse of short handball at clearances.
Get ball out of congestion, then kick long, fast and direct.
If Cats can impose their game style... they will win.

I watch a lot of overseas sport (NFL and NBA mostly) and feel the same way.
In no way would I expect to be catered to, I just gotta figure it out (not having a go at Stocks_go_Up either btw).
I lived in NY city and upstate NY for a number of years. I used to go to a sports bar in the evening to watch the grand final which was on in Melbourne at 2:30pm. Always a bunch of Aussie's there and locals watching the game.

I hate it when 3 or 4 Geelong backmen fly for the incoming ball while noone stays down especially when the ball finds it's way beyond the collapsing pack to an opposition forward who strolls in to goal. I also get annoyed when 3 or 4 Cats players get sucked into the contest like bees to a honeypot and the ball squeezes out to a couple of hovering opponents. The good thing is that seems to be happening less.

Would depend where you are wouldn't it? I'll be recording it and watching it Saturday afternoon. I had a look ahead though and happy they're showing all 4 finals over here. Normally they just show 2 games a week.

Who gives a * about Collingwood fans. I'm still astounded people read opposition preview threads. What are they going to achieve?

I'm telling you now if we'd have won 6 close games against teams in the bottom half of the table in the last 8 weeks people would be using that as an excuse as to why we won't win the QF final. The shoes on the other foot and people suggest if it's close the Pies will run over the top of us. Spare me.

The facts are staring people in the face ... We finished on top by two games and ended the season with a 13 game winning streak. We aren't Nth Melbourne, Port, Essendon, GC, Carlton or the other s**t truck of a side Collingwood scraped home against.

We'll win this and win it well.
"Pies are good at running over the top in the last. How did the Pies final quarter against the cats go last time I wonder"
