And whys that? He's our best overhead mark, kicks well and has the fitness to go forward.

I agree, and even when he doesn't mark the ball, McEvoy is tall, and requires a tall defender.
The pressure is on the defence to punch the ball away, allowing our small forwards in.

He won't kick a lot of goals, but his presence will help greatly.

No he's not. Sicily is. Even if McEvoy is the best contested mark (it's an objected thing), he's not that far ahead of Sicily, Stratton and Frawley amongst others. He's a decent set shot for goal, but so are most of the forwards.

He's far too slow to be a forward come ruck. He needs to be a ruck who rests forward, but his tap work at the moment is really poor and his second efforts are even worse. He's the main (but not the only) reason why the midfield are getting beaten quite badly during some games.

Unfortunately for him, he can't play NicNat every week.

You've really got an axe to grind about BB, SLB. He's not as bad as you suggest, and I don't think Ceglar is a hugely better ruckman, at least not as different as you suggest.

Because he's not that good. Ceglar isn't much better, but Ceglar is a better tap and puts in a lot more 2nd efforts. If you can't tap to your teammates more than you do the opposition, you better be elite in other categories and McEvoy just plain isn't.

We are talking about the BB that Clarko and co were able to fit and play a role in premiership winning teams?o_O

Oh please, we didn't scrape in, in any of the premierships he was in. He was not the difference between why we won and didn't. Don't pull out a team reason to counteract an accurate point about an individual's skills. If that's the best you can come up with, you're scraping the barrel.

Being a premiership player doesn't make you the perfect footballer nor does it make you immune from criticism.

Is it your expectation of having perfect footballers play for the Hawks that validates your criticism of players such as BB?

I am thinking of flying to Perth for the Eagles game. It's for my grandson's 21st. What's the best way to try and get tickets, probably would need 4.

Not on sale yet, I don't think?

You've completely missed my point.

They are incredibly hard to get - try someone from the WA Hawk Supporters club - I THINK maybe Brant

For what its worth, I was at the Gabba on Saturday and noticed that BB's presence in the F50 meant Merrett had to line up on him and in a way protected the smaller bodies of Gunston, Sicily, and others. Merrett is a big unit and would have hurt someone if he had a free run into one the Hawks marking forwards.

No one on our list takes pack marks like BB. If he can become a consistent goalkicker, who knows what can happen.

That is a myth. Stratton and Gibson take more pack marks than McEvoy. It's a Reality vs. Reputation thing here.

Look how he's gone against good sides with strong midfielders and then come back and tell me how he's done as a ruck who can take pack marks. Don't do it after he did alright against an irrelevant, minnow side with no KPPs.

This is not the thread for it either.

Oh yeah, those teams with strong midfields that cut the supply of effective forward 50 entries? Those teams?

Really? Who died and made you moderator?

Ask Savagelunchbox. According to him, he makes the rules.
The discussion has gone beyond the realm of this thread in SLB's opinion, I tend to agree, neither of us make the rules last time I checked.

Had a good laugh at this part. When does Stratton ever take pack marks?

Or Gibson - taking pack marks?
The poster in question has an obsession with Ben McEvoy., and nothing changes it. Logic and common sense go out the door, he really has no idea.

For the record, Big Boy has been great in 2 consecutive Grand Finals, it doesn't get better than that.

Methinks a confusion between "pack marks" and "contested marks" and even then, most of Gibson's marks are uncontested, otherwise he goes the fist more often than not (usually because his opponent is a foot taller than him)

Logic? Really? Care to disprove with facts instead of your usual vague answer of "he did well in a GF" nonsense when you have nothing but your usual fanboi BS to bring to the table?

I'll make it easy for you. What did McEvoy do that Ceglar or any of the other rucks couldn't do that changed the result to a win instead of a loss. If McEvoy is the dais of ruckmen he would have done something to change the result.

I know you think you're a better poster than me so time to prove it, fanboi. You don't bring anything to this forum other than following me around giving likes to in one babyish attempt to spite me as if I give a shit. Now's the time to prove yourself.

It's the same with McEvoy on your Pack vs Contested marks. McEvoy takes contested marks, but he rarely takes pack marks.

Anyway I'm done with this subject legit this time.

Good on Davo for waiting for me to leave before taking his pot shot at me. Can see why he likes the cowardly players.

True but the general feeling is that BB is ahead of Ceglar in overall impact on a game week in week out, that may change down the track.
