I suspect that he had an opponent, but that they weren't AFL quality.Essentially loose behind the ball

My point is we don't have an All Australian Laird to deploy off half back any more. That Laird is long gone.Milera is 27 and has never been close to one.
About the last time Milera played a near full season.
A player is of no use if they are rarely on the park.
You have the B&F details, so feel free to compare the 2 players.
I'm preferring the player who is on the park.
Yet Laird is the one who has been All Australian.Well the discussion is about what Milera was delivering when he was on the park.
What he was delivering is better than what Laird currently delivers for a half back role. Laird is a terrible user by foot and has no kicking penetration. He's a sideways handballer. Milera at least takes creative options and is a reasonably good kick
When has Laird played well in defense in the last few seasons even for short stints? Never?Yet Laird is the one who has been All Australian.
You can count on 2 hands Milera's great games, so there is some serious over rating going on.
Milera barely plays, let alone wellWhen has Laird played well in defense in the last few seasons even for short stints? Never?
When has Milera played well full stop for more than 10 consecutive games? When has Laird played well in defense in the last few seasons even for short stints? Never?
We're not talking about their injury record, we're talking about what they bring on the fieldWhen has Milera played well full stop for more than 10 consecutive games?
Never!
Milera becomes more awesome the less he plays...
Indeed, Milera is rarely on the field! We're not talking about their injury record, we're talking about what they bring on the field
If both were fit I’m going Milera off half back instead of Laird.I'm saying that if there was an injury to the best 22 and both Laird and Milera were available, I'm picking Milera
Laird will be in our best 23, Milera probably won't be.I'm saying that if there was an injury to the best 22 and both Laird and Milera were available, I'm picking Milera
We have Cumming, Worrell & Hinge across half back, who are all great ball users... so Laird is good balance to feed them the ball.If both were fit I’m going Milera off half back instead of Laird.
One has more penetration and run, Laird will get more possessions but do we want that?
Milera was very good in 2023 playing that role.
Yeah nah Laird is cooked, Milera still has a future, albeit running outIt's incredible how highly people rate Milera.
I like Wayne but even Laird in the form he was in plays in front of him
NahYeah nah Laird is cooked, Milera still has a future, albeit running out
Don't think you understand the concept of cooked.Yeah nah Laird is cooked, Milera still has a future, albeit running out
Laird will be in our 23. Regardless of form.If both were fit I’m going Milera off half back instead of Laird.

I don't think laird had played a good game on two years and constantly stuffs up.Don't think you understand the concept of cooked.
If you can't get on the park... you are cooked.
As opposed to playing every game...
Agree he will be in but I don’t reckon Laird would replace Crouch in the midfield, someone else would be replacing Crouch and Laird stays down backLaird will be in our 23. Regardless of form.
Crouch is far more likely to be dropped than Laird.
Milera has played a handful of quality games in his whole career.I don't think laird had played a good game on two years and constantly stuffs up.
His only attribute is his ability to accumulate possession and his strength and fitness at the end of a game. But he will still butcher it, miss goals and miss team mates. Putting him in defence won't help, it will show him up. And he is replaced in the midfield.
If the choice is between the two, I'm going Milera, if Milera is injured, its not a choice. Remember we are talking defence only.
Thanks Lairdy for coming into our midfield when we had nothing, job well done.
So much promise, and yet he still somehow still holds some promise, 2025 could be his last chance thoughMilera has played a handful of quality games in his whole career.
