Kens presser doesn't fill me with confidence that today's defensive issues are going to be addressed. Defence pushed up way too far at times when they shouldn't have and got exposed going the other way. Our turnovers were also abysmal at times. Today's performance was not one of a team who hopes to get top 4.

I'm hoping it was more cobwebs being blown out than issues that we have with structures but goddamn that first half was awful.

Happy for Charlie and for us that he finished it off like that, it'll be great for his confidence. Reasonable kick from outside 50.

I was yelling at the TV to get Chad off when he went for the calves after getting that running goal in the last. Love how he didn't take posession, so smart. The TV didn't listen to me.

Structure in the last qtr won it for us, what a surprise keep some semblance of a forward line and suddenly you can keep the ball locked in and maintain forward pressure, and put it on the scoreboard. Absolute joke what we did in the first 3qtrs. There were times when they had 4-5-6 players free in our forward line to our 0. Of course they ran in waves and had free players streaming forward. Kidding themselves if they think this is the way to go.

I think raman nailed it. We played a really high risk press for most of the game and it backfired in a huge way. They kicked 7 goals from the goal square. You can't gift that many easy goals to any team and hope to win. We tightened up in the last quarter but our fitness was the key thing. We've seen it many times over the last few years but the difference in our run, speed, ball skills, etc, in the last quarter compared to the opposition was just incredible. St Kilda had an interrupted NAB campaign but even so I think this is an edge we still have over most other teams.

Thought the midfield started awfully but got better as the game went on. Ebert started the season well as usual and kicked goals. Both Grays were amazing, Sam in the thick of it and Robbie up forward. Chad played a bit of midfield and killed it. Hartlett excellent. Polec got better and better as the game went on and I can't wait to see him with a month or two of footy under his belt. Boak was quiet and Wines was a bit in and out of the game.

Lobbe was awful for the first three quarters. Slightly better in the last quarter but gee whiz, if a guy like Hickey is going to give him a bath then he is in for a really tough year.

Jasper Far Kern Pittard! What a game! Just about the best he's ever played. Intercept marks, great contested play, beautiful running and kicking. I want mooooore of that.

Broady was very good, Jonas looks to have improved on last year.

Dixon wasted some chances but still kicked 3. But he just provided that target and brought the ball to ground which is something we haven't really had since Tredders. He is going to be worth his weight in more than just the number of goals he kicks.

All up, relieved to get off the mark in round one and the last quarter is a good platform to head into the Showdown from.

Jasper was a god today. And did not have a single Bombscare Jasper moment from memory.

One kick resulted in a turnover in our defensive 50, but otherwise nothing as bad as Broady and Ebert's.

Jasper has turned into an absolute bully of a player. 2013 at the Etihad, he gets thrown to the ground by Riewoldt resulting in a bit of jumper punching by Boak and Nick. 2016 at the Adelaide Oval, Jasper just runs through Nick Riewoldt as if he was a small child.

Sam Gray is a very impressive footballer which will take me several years to get my head around. He's not had a bad game since the first half of 2015. His one gear is elite.

Dixon's inaccuracy could have really cost us - actually, it did, as twice his misses resulted in end to end goals. Obviously not all his fault, but it shows how important an accurate shot at goal is.

Rob and Chad are just top of the line footballers. Their performances will make or break out games this year.

Broady good. Westhoff good.

Lobbe bad, bad man. Like, stand out bad. Our defense as a whole was awful for a long time too.
If i posted my review it wouldve been this. Bang on Dyls. Although i wouldve blown more wind up the Cobras arse. Hes a tradesman and a very good one.

Ken is delusional that has game plan doesn't need to change. The rules have changed ken..and they changed just to beat your defensive push game plan and the have succeeded. Leave the forwards forward and the backs back..don't be so stubborn.
No, you.

The hitouts were 49 to 66 which isn't a thrashing in the ruck, not sure about "to advantage" though. But what is really concerning is the cleanliness of the centre square takeaways that the Saints got in the first three. We need to find a way to neutralize scores from centre stoppages.

Who comes in for white lads ? Toumpas ? Dougal? Stretch the crows ?
Crows are already playing a tall short and bonked in the last against North. Whilst I want to see Dougal this year, this is a game where we are probably going to have heart attacks for three quarters again, trying to hold them, before running them off their feet. Hoff was one of the top distance coverers today, they'd be insane to leave a small on him.

A small for a small and we still have enough quality tall forwards, plus Hombsch (yeah I'm saying step up Trengove and especially Carlile) to do the job, whilst running them into the ground.

For all the negative points (and they shouldn't be glossed over), we absolutely gifted the Saints more than half their goals through 11 point plays or unacceptable turnovers. These are definitely fixable issues.

Awesome last quarter.

We need to get the ball in the hands of Robbie and Wingard as often as possible - they are just so clean and they never stuff up!

I thought Westhoff was really good today as well, especially some of his tackles. I think teams will focus on Dixon this year, which will hopefully leave Westy running around as the third tall - the role he was meant for. I'm really liking the whole forward setup of Dixon, Westhoff and Schultz with Gray, Wingard etc. at their feet.

Can't say the same about our back line - we look slow and lack agility especially Carlile, Trengove and Jonas. When the ball hits the ground we have Pittard (who was awesome today), Impey (who was barely sighted), and Hombsch. Speaking of Jonas his field kicking is awful, Broadbent as well - he needs to stop trying to kick the leather off the ball as they all ended up as worm burners, which either get smothered or don't find their target.

Our midfield got beaten today, but on an individual level we weren't too bad. I'm not sure what the issue was, perhaps it was Lobbe, but they definitely won the midfield today.
