Serious danger game here.
We've lost our last 5 games to WC. We go in favourites to beat GWS and we're 10 goals down at half time.

Butts missing, Geelong scored 5 goals in a quarter and a bit once he went off.
I don't think we'll miss Brown too much, IMO Walker has to come back if fit. Don't mind if Rachele has another week off.
As for the rest of selection, meh, I'm over it.

JK returned last week. Kelly, Gaff and Shuey all have good records against us.
Kelly - 2 BOG from 3 games against us as an Eagle.
Gaff has never kicked a point against us - but has 9 goals straight and 11 Brownlow votes in 17 games.
Shuey averages 26 touches in his last 4 against us.

I hope we've learned from the GWS game that we still have to play to get the win. I'm still tipping us, but I wouldn't be taking the $1.11 odds.

I'm not sure they really want to win

Yeah, they appear in full tank mode.

They would be looking to win home game or 2 towards the end of the year to give their fans some hope... if it doesn't impact on their draft order.

It'll be like the North Melbourne game late last year. Reasonably close affair (marred by appalling skills) for three quarters, before we pull the skis out in the last.

The only thing we can gain out of a game like this is a debut for Parnell/Newchurch and a confidence booster for someone like Thilthorpe. We already know what guys like ROB, Keays, Smith, etc can do, so them dominating against the bottom side won't really tell us anything.

Luke Brown is a huge out for Wet Toast

In: Walker, Sholl, Jones, Rachele
Out: Butts, Brown, Murphy, McHenry

F: Rowe McAdam Fogarty
HF: Rachele Walker Thilthorpe

C: Sholl Keays Soligo
R: O’Brien Hately Laird

HB: Smith Doedee Dawson
B: Hinge Murray Milera

I: Berry Jones Hamill Crouch

Doedee/Hinge to Darling, Murray to JK. I'm not dropping anyone after one week.

I made a comment about randomly noting Doedee's One-on-One stats in the previous game thread. I decided to follow it up after last week

I generally don't value the One-on-One stat as a mark of quality, mostly because of how easy it is to make a contest not-technically-one-on-one. However it is interesting how effective the 2nd tall defender is at helping Doedee avoid 1v1s, particularly losing ones.

Doedee/Hinge to Darling, Murray to JK. I'm not dropping anyone after one week.
Surely it's pointless playing an injured Doedee. Give him the week off & the bye to get his hand right.

Perfect opportunity to bring in Worrell to play on Darling.

Milera isn't anywhere near AFL level at the moment.

Its high time we try the two ruckmen experiment. Strauchnie and ROB to both play and one off the bench and occasionally play forward pocket. They are probably two of our best overhead marks and that says a lot where our marking power is at the moment.

If you keep doing the same thing expect the same result.

We tried it in 2020, was a disaster. Which of those guys do you think look a capable key forward?

It's a good question; I wonder the same thing, often, so I am of no help to you.

The only things I can think of are:
--- that the Coaches/Selectors have well-defined criteria (hopefully that they make clear to players) and
--- that they have insights and understanding of individual players and their within-team networks with other players that they believe will result in a winning combo.
That would contain info of which we have no knowledge, being outside "the circle", so to speak.

There’s no evidence to that but plenty to the contrary.

Ins - Outs
Jones - Brown... inj
Worrell - Butts... inj
Parnell - Doedee... inj
Cook - Crouch... team balance
Walker - Milera... not AFL ready
Newchurch - Murphy... get his neck right

B: Jones, Murray, Hinge
HB: Smith, Worrell, Hamill
C: Soligo, Keays, Dawson
HF: Thilthorpe, Walker, McHenry
F: McAdam, Fogarty, Newchurch

As for the proposed team to go down ;)

B: Jones, Frampton, Hinge
HB: Smith, Hamill, Milera
C: Hately, Keays, Dawson
HF: Thilthorpe, Walker, Rowe
F: McAdam, Fogarty, Rachele

Butts, Brown, Murray and Crouch out..Walker, Cook, Rachele and Frampton in (yes, Frampton...to play on one of Kennedy or Darling...Murray will get killed) . At least Frampton can relieve in the Ruck....and allow Thilthorpe to stay forward the whole time...). Would love to drop Milera and Crouch, but we are the AFC so that wont happen...of the two I think Milera is the least offensive..Crouch destroys the mid-field mix atm...would also like McHenry out, but he is the new VB / McKay (a player the coaches love for god-knows what reason...)

I think he's referring to this one...

Gotta say, fair dues 👍

Interesting though, that he says Pyke rang him up after he was drafted (not before) and said they drafted him to play as a forward but that he hadn’t ever played any time forward in the SANFL. That he didn’t know why they thought he was a forward.

He was playing as a defender, and we know he played midfield as a junior

Haven’t tried. Some of us have to work occasionally.

Now you made this ridiculous claim that we “drafted Murphy as a midfielder’ and naturally attacked anyone who disagreed with you. Do you think it is a clue that no other poster supports you “version” of the truth 🤔?

Please provide any evidence that “We drafted Murphy as a midfielder” (other than but, but, but he played in the midfield in the Under 8s).

I will find the interview when I have some free time because “Mate, I want to do you slowly”!

Surely every single person in the entire world could see we didn't draft Murphy as a forward, he hasn't got a single forwards bone in his body.

If we didn't draft Murphy as a midfielder where did we think he was going to play.

He is just another in a long list of midfielders we draft but end up playing as forwards because we don't believe in rolling a squad of 6 or 7 mids in a game, unfortunately we stick to the same Stacked Four every bloody week.

Our diabolical state of affairs is due to poor drafting AND poor development/selection/gameplan.

Borlase rucked the last couple of rounds in the SANFL last year and played extremely well in the position one out with Strachan playing AFL and ROB injured, so I wouldn't think Frampton has that going for him.

To be honest I don't believe any change in personnel will help, much unless it is to bring in Youth
What will help, is to change where certain Players are Playing,
I am Agreeing with Rowie on 5AA, our midfield in it current form is Shit,
We need to move Laird and Keays out of the midfield, Laird to Defence where he still gets 25+ disposal and more time time to make them effective,
And Keay to high Forward role, and he will still get 20+. and more time to make them more effective,
Let's just run with Crouch, Hatley, Berry, Schoenberg, Peddlar, Jones, Soligo, etc running thru the middle.

Then at the end of the year, we will have a better understanding of where we are.

I think keays stays but i would have him set up as a negating role on the oppo best mid. Then let our younger mids go head to head with the second third snd fourth best mids the opposition have
