Out coached

So shattered that's the best we've played all year and to still lose
Port just can't win close games

Days since Jonts has shed a tear after a footy game. ... 0
I actually think the coaching was not too bad today, they were killing us everywhere in the first quarter and our coaching staff made notable changes in our setups

Or you could realise this entire year has been a huge disappointment and realise we should be thrashing a young bulldogs side at home at this stage. Injuries or not, we should rightfully be frustrated by our performances this year. We can't just sit by and accept this mediocre bullshit, and claim we tried hard. Trying hard is not enough we need some ******* premierships, end of story. The group went backwards and we performed above expectations today but thats a damning position to be in where we are happy that we performed above expectations yet still lost.

This is not good enough and we need to be ruthless come the end of the year, club wide.
You expected to thrash them today?

My problem wasn't that Boak missed, my issues are that he never wanted it. You could see it in his eyes. As someone else said, exactly like Motlop down in Tassie. If you don't wanna take the kick Travis, don't go for the mark, sheppard it, it was looking to go through.

A win would have been nice but being realistic based on our performances this season we played well above how we have for most of the year and just happened to lose against a better skilled team. We should never be content with a loss but plenty of positives are to be taken rather than all of this false posturing about finals as we are simply not a good enough team at the moment.

yeah I agree, our ladder position is quite fitting, with our skill level. Good game today, and while it was a good win by the dogs, I'm not sure beating a side out of the 8 would be a 'win for the ages'.

Good signs for us I think

They gave it everything but they didn't do everything. Poor decisions, bad skills, dropped marks. This isn't athletics. Unwavering physical commitment isn't enough. You actually need to have skills.

Those poor skills you are on about were caused by the congestion in our forward line. If the opposition are allowed to run eighteen players into our forward fifty there are are going to be mistakes. I did not think our skill level was that bad.

Geez you don't want much, we field a side missing at least six first choice players against a potential top four outfit we are in touch or in front most of the game and eventually lose by a kick and you want to pick on the players. We made errors but so did the opposition.

If Dixon took every mark that he got his hands to, he'd kick 250 goals. He's a 200cm, 110kg, super mobile pack crashing brute of a man. He arguably drops more marks than we'd like, but most KPF's in the league (Schulz included) wouldn't even get their hands to a lot of those marks. I'd rather have Dixon dropping it at the feet of our crumbers than have opposition KPD's marking it.

Precisely. Dixon is one of the leading contested marks in the comp and brings the ball to ground in almost every contest he attends - probably at a rate about 10x that of Butcher or even Schulz and Westhoff. Should be careful what we wish for there.

It was more of an example. Dixon not pulling down every single contested mark is not on our list of problems.

My impression is that Charlie is holding around one in six contested marks atm. He gets into great position and gets his hands on it but it does not quite stick often enough. Charlie's bodywork is great but we need him to take more contested marks. We signed Charlie to take contested marks up forward so if he does not do it then there is a problem.

Well learn to have a crumber front and Center. It's not hard. Better than Brett Ebert being out marked every week as our full forward under Primus.

I think this is fair. On a greasy day like last week, when the small forwards are running amok, it works ok. But we got badly out crumbed from his dropped marks today. There was not enough synchrony between him and Wingard and Impey, and he spilled marks against a much smaller opponent.

It didn't help that Westhoff had a stinker.

Dixon and Westhoff were no different really to how they went against Carlton a month ago.

Redpath was a bigger player in this result. Loved (hated) his excellent leading. Why can't we have one forward who actually leads straight and into space.
We do... His name is Jay Schulz

Why put Polec on Stringer ?

It was more like Stringer went into the midfield and no one really picked him up. Polec was standing next to him at the centre square. Pretty amateur that we didn't have someone keeping a closer eye on him.

What ever happened to footballers using their alternate foot? Even I was a good kick on my unfavored left foot because I practiced and practiced.Maybe they only practice dribble kicks and around the corner kicks these days inbetween x Box practice.

Not always so. It was mostly under Choco. As I've said before, Primus did his absolute best to reinstate a proper forward structure to the team and moved Ebert up the ground when available players allowed it.

Doesn't matter if you're directly addressing myself or not. You're questioning a value and expectation at the very core of this football club's existence, founding, and consolidation. I'm going to answer it.
I asked Dr feel if he expected to thrash them. Geez, ease up. The term 'trash' indicates a very large margin. So, answering with "we expect to win" doesn't really answer the question, does it.

Seems to me most times Dixon is being double teamed/triple teamed when goes for a mark. When he gets a one on one contest he holds the mark.

I am sure being double teamed/triple teamed is fun if you are Sasha Grey but not if you are a full forward.

Finally, some sense.

Our game plan is so predictable, that defenders are moving towards Charlie even before we've kicked the ball into the 50.

We should really be using this to our advatage and have Charlie lead to one spot and Westhoff to another. Having them in close vicinity of each other means there is at least two tall defenders ready to contest the high ball.

Perhaps, but a win is a win. 1 point or 100. We can't afford to be picky. I won't deride other posters for having high expectations of our performance.

Except Janus when he back flipped after his showboating and arrogance in the lead up to the showdown.
