An arrest has been made in California of one of the most elusive serial killers, the original night stalker or East area rapist, as he was known. A former police officer, now aged 72, arrested for at least twelve murders and over fifty rapes in the 1970s and 80s. Anyone interested in true crime may have heard of the case. He must have thought he'd gotten away with it, after all this time.

I see they had looked into his connection to a melbourne (here, not over there) murder too.....Haven't read the full story to see the connection yet, just saw the headlines.

Yep. Just like your "Prestige German Automobile " ( i paid $30K more than its worth cos i'm a w***er and continue to throw money away every time its serviced ) may be built in South Africa.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-...d-in-australia-time-for-better-labels/9035576

The fact is it doesn't matter where it was brewed.... do we think the water swirls the other way in the vat?

CUB do a good tour , with food and drink for around 50 bucks.
When they make euro beer under license, part of the condition is that they buy the exact same ingredients that the license dictates. IE Barley from Europe.

With a good brewery its hard to see what difference it then makes to mix the stuff in australia rather than Europe, and apart from matching the exact flavours, it think there is a certain amount of snobbery in the "ohhh i'm drinking Belgian beer " thing. I don't mind drinking different beers, just like i like different flavours of ice cream, but its hard to say that the mass produced euro stuff is any better than the mass produced Australian. Stuff like Carlburg and Heineken is considered in Europe the way we consider VB.

Something i did like was the Carlton Brewery Fresh.
Its not pasteurised, which means it needs to be kept cold from the time of manufacture to the time you drink it. So its only available at venue's that have the right equipment that can have refrigerated trucks deliver. Probably comparable to the stuff you get at microbreweries.

I reckon you can tell the difference though. The Japanese Asahi is much nicer, it must be minerals in the water or something. The Heineken and stuff isn't right here either.

Do any of you stop and reflect on the nature of our lives on this forum?

Specifically, we are possibly the first generation/s in history to have relationships even close to this nature.

I am a real person who none of you have ever met and wouldn't recognise if I was standing next to you (boo!) or heard me talk. You take my word that I am who I say but I could be totally lying. The only reason to trust me is because it actually doesn't even matter. My location, gender, age, appearance, job, income, education, legal status, family, history, even taste in drinks, music and films is entirely irrelevant to our relationship. Ever consider how rare that is in a relationship?

Obviously, the same is true of you. You could all be figments of my imagination, like everyone else in the world (if it exists). But apart from that, all the other posters on here could actually be the same bored person with multiple personality disorder and a lot of time. Again, does it even matter?

I communicate with many of you on a daily, sometimes hourly basis, whereas the last time I spoke to my 'real' friends and brothers and parents was weeks ago. Our conversations are often revealing and intimate yet I doubt we'll ever meet, and maybe that's why we allow ourselves to talk the way we do to each other.

About a year or two ago, I had the opportunity to meet up with someone else on this forum who was passing through France on holiday, and at first I was hesitant: maybe we had nothing in common in real life, etc. Would our relationship change in some way after that poster had a real face, voice or name? It actually was quite unnerving. I warmed to the idea afterwards but it was too late.

And that's just me in isolation on the other side of the planet. You guys in Melbourne have probably gone to plenty of Saints matches since you started posting on this site: don't you ever look at other saints fans and wonder if they are this or that poster on here? Seen a Fijian fella in red black and white and wonder if they curse? Cross some monged out young guy and considered shouting out "Gherkin!" to see if he looks up?

Such a strange thing we spend our lives, our very lives doing. I wonder how we'll be viewed in history for partaking in this activity.

Hi Mate, not quoting for the story, just to get your attention.

What's your story re the Saints? Obviously you are a native of Manchester, did you stumble upon us or do you just enjoy Aussie Rules?

Anyway good addition to the forum.

A Leeds man myself which is sad, but as an old bastard, they were the team of the 70's when I took an intrest in English football.
Cant say I have a Premier league team, but prefer the non London clubs like Man U or City or Liverpool or Everton to be going well.

Anyhow, visiting the mighty British Isles for the first time in 32 years in August and September.
Unfortunately cant get to Manchester but looking forward to a lot of places I missed out on last time, like Cornwell, Ireland and Scotland.

You can see how much faith I have in the Saints making the 2018 finals, I'm out of the country from the middle of August and only get back on the friday before Grand Final day.

Oh and a cold winters day in Melb is about 9 degrees.

Can drop below freezing at night but rare. We do have snowfields about 2.5 hours from Melbourne, which are OK but extremely expensive.

Excellent post.

We are free to some thing on SM for better or worse, that we are constrained from doing in life.

It can also be a good tool to vent and for group therapy.

For some people with personality disorders or are socially awkward, SM is a good way to communicate with others without becoming anxious or self conscious.

For bloggers like yourself who is isolated because of geography, its a great lifeline to a culture foreign to the one you live.

Some like our Manchester mate, it may be an insight into an alien but similiar culture and a point of interest.

For most of us, it is to crap on about the Saints, troll for fun and be an ignorant loudmouth, or that is how many on here would regard me.
A poster in person would in most cases be different to their forum persona, some wouldnt, and some would be genuine nutcases, but that hust makes up the rich tapestry of lfe.

As for history, future generations will think

1) They must have been bored
2) Not one of them had any idea of football as none of them predicted the 5 consecutive flags won by the Saints starting in 2019

I’m teaching myself to play guitar. Two weeks in and already I want a new one.
I’ve learnt so much in these two weeks and loving it.
The one I bought second hand is forty years old and pretty hard to play to be honest although that might make me better.

It's like old cars, it might be harder to play and uncomfortable but you look 100% cooler playing an old one. Even if you can only play smoke on the water on one string.

I actually read an interesting article about the role forums play in some peoples mental heath. They seem to always have negative articles on how the internet is producing a generation of social ******ed isolated odd balls. This article was saying a lot of older people who would otherwise suffer from disorders bought about by loneliness are actually staved off by the connections on line. It's like one big mens shed on line with out the crappy woodwork pieces littering your house. Probably sponsored by Google or something but interesting.

Anyway, it is interesting that you are probably more likely to be less filtered on here because of anonymity than with your closest friends. It's probably actually pretty sad really when I over think it. Anyway I think I use the forum to make myself unproductive, it's just a massive procrastination tool for me. I'm pretty sure it costs me thousands to post irrelevant opinions on here.

There is a disturbing point you come to when you seem to know people quite intimately on a forum, it's evidence of way too much time spent on here. My wife thinks I'm working on my lap top when I post at home, she walks in and sees BF and whines at me and now I have to kill the window as she walks in. Probably thinks I'm looking up scat pr0n or something more impressive than footy chat.

When she met me I was politically active and arty, got the ring on her finger and turned into Peter Griffen.

Any snow field 2.5 hours from Melbourne is a pretender. That would be like Baw Baw which has terrible cover, Buller is better but more like 4 hours. All are ridiculously over priced.

Leeds was a club lots of Aussies loved because of their big Oz contingent in the 90s. I followed Newcastle because I knew some guys who got me into them and they had Shearer and Andy Cole at the time...eventually Viduka too. They were good days. They are very disappointing now though. No oligarch seems keen on paying for a decent team.

I went to Cornwall last time it's actually really nice despite the summer being a drizzle fest. Devon was pretty nice too.

It's also a great place to get unbiased relationship advice. My research tells me that everything is solved if you "**** her dad" or "**** his dad"

Also the one rule in life is "don't dog the boys"

Hi Joffa, I posted my story in the introductions thread when i joined the forum a few months back. I initially got into Aussie rules by watching on TV: Live games are broadcast on BT sports over here, and I started watching, then became really interested, as I love the combination of fitness, skill and courage the game requires. It's like soccer, rugby and athletics combined, and I would much rather watch a game of Aussie rules than a game of rugby now. Soccer, being our national game, is my first love: my family have been Manchester United supporters for at least a century, and it's like a religion here. After that, I would probably choose to watch a game of Aussie rules before almost anything else. I like rugby union (not league) and don't mind a bit of cricket, though I'm no longer the fan I was as a kid.

Watching the games on TV, I became more interested and needed a team to follow. The Saints' red, white and black was the obvious choice for me, given my soccer affiliation, and there's also the fact the Saints are underachievers. I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon of supporting the most successful team, only to lose interest when they stopped winning. Saints means being in it for the long haul, which is good. I started following Saints games and learned the rules of the game as I watched. I think I made the right decision; the people on the this forum are top class and have been generous to a rookie Pom. Must admit I'm the only Aussie Rules fan I know of over here, but I'm sure there are others. It's still very much an unknown entity here. American football is better known, but I'm not into American sports/culture.

Shame you won't make it to Manchester during your visit; we could have met for a beer. The Scots and Irish are great people, the southern English are not, sadly. The north is where the good folk are over here.

Come on you Saints :thumbsu:

An existential question, mate. What is reality in the era of anonymous internet relationships? Internet forums are both real and unreal at the same time. You and I interact from the other side of the planet, yet we could just ass easily be within a stone's throw from each other but still never meet. Satre, de Beauvoir, Camus, Hamsun etc would a field day contemplating man's isolation from his fellow man in our contemporary world and his search for kinship via non-direct relationships.

Now we know you are a fake living in your mum's basement in outer suburban Melbourne. No MU fan knows about existentialism. ;)

We are pioneers for the future of social interaction.
Future generations will become inceasingly more secluded.
If we don't all kill each other, or destroy our planet, we will all end up as computers with human brains downloaded.

Of course, the red white and black.

Lots of Saints fans are Southhampton supporters because of the colours and nickname and probably the fact they are as hopeless as our Saints

We have a Saints fan in the US whom I follow on twitter and we are trying to get him down here for a live game.

You know that if ever you make the treck way down here, you will be welcomed with open arms.

Aussie Rules is infinitely better live than on TV.

We would even get you to the MCG to see it pack with 90k plus fans. A sight to see and also the fact that opposition supporters mingle and sit together.

We are as fanatical about our game and our team in this town especially but it starts and stops at the game.

The rest of the time we talk about our teams constantly. It really is remarkable. Coming from Sydney, never experienced anything like it. Really as unique as the game itself.

I spent a lot of my teenage years on forums (GTA Forums, Boards and also the Stick Cricket forum of all things) the latter two of which no longer exist sadly) but there's quite a few that made it over here Rough_Edges Speck Headless The Speaker (I think anyway, hai guys!).

I'll expand on this post later but I think forums are a pretty crazy thing. I've met a few people - from here and SC and everyone was pretty similar to who they presented themselves as on forums.

I think it's so cool that every one of our posts will be visible for decades to come. Even if this forum does go down I think the Way Back Machine will keep a small amount of it alive.

I have no idea what this thread is, but you will always be in my heart. <3
