I am a bit worried about having 2 Pies and 2 Cats as my 4 main midfielders but Ball is good value and am looking to upgrade him at some stage. Alternative is to spend a bit more money and upgrade Pendles to Hayes or NDS...but I think Pendles is set for a big year and would like to keep him.

Backs: Not a fan of Satanta. Other than that solid.

Mids: Solid, not much to say. I wouldn't worry too much about four from two teams. The two teams in questions have class midfields, and the players should rack up the points, provided none of them get injured (IMO).

Rucks: Lobbe hasn't had a good preseason and couldn't get into Port's 29 man squad for the Semis in NAB Cup.

Forwards: Having Rohan starting is a risk, other than that, solid.

Backs look solid. Maybe look at upgrading one of Hodge, Mackie or Gilbee into the $500k category.

Centres: Also solid, though I don't know how much game time Moles is likely to get.

Rucks: Tippett's an interesting choice for first ruck. Could be a risk, given that NicNat is your backup. Both are young players and can be a little inconsistent.

Forwards: Didak, Hall and Franklin in the one forward line is risky. Both Hall and Franklin are tall forwards so can be inconsistent. Didak can be suseptable to a tag and in the last couple of season has missed weeks with injury, though when he fires he's good for the points. Also I'm not sure about Hitchcock starting. I think he's a better bench player, especially given you'll need to replace Franklin in the first week.

I would take out Harvey, replace with Trengove(a must!). Use the excess to upgrade Clarke to Sandilands. Harvey will miss games + you'll increase your earning potential with Trengove.

I wouldn't have Johnson in the forward line either. Consider Pavlich. Had an average season(so cheapish) in '09 and VERY rarely misses games.

Really good side.

If anything I would look at getting harvey into the fwds instead of Johnson and put Ball or Cooney in the mids.

Its a personal preference on Medhurst but I would rather Ziebell or Dangerfield.

Can you at least justify why Harvey will miss games..?

Before a freak accident where he was chicken winged and had his elbow fractured, he missed 1 or 2 games in 4 seasons..?????

Came back 4 weeks early from his elbow injury and played out the rest of the season averaging 96..?

yet you advise him to get Pavlich based on him rarely missing games, and that was true prior to 2008.

But in the past two season's he has missed 3 games in each with soft tissue injuries..?

mids.. why have harvey in the middle, use him forward, get a different midfielder

Rather than say start again, probably not that necessary.

Here's some advice.

Wayyyy too much money sitting on your bench..!
Downgrade Ladson to at least Beau Waters - Frees up $92K

Down grade Connors to Luke Shuey and start Trengove or Martin - Frees up $77K

Downgrade Leunberger to a $100K player - Frees up $145K

Downgrade Vespremi and Yarran to players like Rockliff and Hitchcock.
Frees up around $200K

Now you have approximately, $520,000 to work with.

Upgrade Mundy to Bartel/Selwood/Pendlebury/Gibbs/Mitchell
Upgrade Thompson/Cooney to Swan/Hayes/Dal Santo (if you going without Ablett.

This should cost around $400K.

Use the remaining to upgrade Rob Murphy to Gray/Higgins/Gia/Tippet

That would be a good starting point and adjust from there.

I haven't seen Dempsey or Pears this preseason but based on previouse years there may be better choices at that price. Also Sheppard is to expensive to be sitting on the bench. I'd look at downgrading him and spending that money on the field.

Mids: 3 rookies is very risky, especially as you don't have any of the top 3 midfielders. Ablett is a monty for captain, or if you don't want him, look at Swan or Montagna. Also again, if you are going to have Morabito on the bench downgrade him to a Barlow or a Banner (both have had better preseasons IMO) and spend the money on the field.

Rucks: Don't mind your starting rucks, Ryders a little different (though watch that Hille's return doesn't effect his number). But again Luenburger is to much cash for the bench.

Dunno about Ballantyne, good footy player but being a crumbing forward doesnt get alot of the ball and will only get decent scores if he kicks a bag.
