31 and 32 shots in the games he played in. It just looked very weak last night without him there. Every time we went to Fev he was 2 on 1 something which wasnt happening in the weeks Fish was there. It is very hard to see who should not be there, but a forward line minus Fisher (fev-setanta-garlett-houla-bannister-betts) doesnt look as potent.

Does anyone think there is a link to Fevola's 14 goals in 2 weeks and Fish being in the side? The foward line seems to work a bit better when he is in the side, well at least it does for Fev. And then last night it was back to shit

It could be a coincidence but something to think of
even my maths has 8 plus 2 = 10 or 11. re fev
but 14 goals in 2 weeks..... ?

Don't buy the argument about Fish / Fev and the forward line looking more potent. Carlton's two best games of the year - Hawks & Saints (yes, both losses but they are our best against top opposition) - did not have Fish in. And with Fish in against Saints, more than likely they would've just run off him almost creating a loss man in defence for the Saints. With Garlett, he pressures pressures pressures.

The other thing with Fev, against the Saints Max H was on him and Fev has a poor record against Max H regardless of whether Fish is playing or not. As to other games this year, Fev has been getting almost as much as the ball as he did against West Coast and Brissie, it's just that his kicking has generally been poor and I don't think that has anything to do with Fish.

With Fish, probably best suited to a forward pocket where he can use those marking skills close to goal. Big worry is the opposition running off him and his lack of pressure (he's not quick) and that's where the top sides will carve us up. However, if he's close to goal and kicking them then the opposition will be reluctant to run off him.

Also, Setanta did alright the other night because he started taking marks which is what we really lack on the forward line (another marking player besides Fev). He also kicked one (crucial one) and set Fev up for another.

West Coast are a rabble and St Kilda have the best defence in the competition. Brisbane were minus their two best tall defenders.

Fisher's not good enough. Too slow, too light, not physical and a poor kick. He can't catch players and his tackling is a joke. If he was at 100% and working his arse off he might be worth a game but he doesn't work hard enough at times.

I would nearly play Hartlett at CHF in the AFL ahead of fisher.

Starts to get a bit tired after a while Guns:(

Please name the player you will drop to bring in Ellard
Don't I know it.
We decided to rotate Garlett Robbo Yarran etc through the same spot. I think Ellard could fill the same roll plus be better in the middle and even out back in a tagging role. But we will not know if he is not given a shot. If he is not elevated I would expect it will be lights out at the end of the year for him. That would probably result in a return to the WAFL I guess to try to show he is worthy of being picked up in a draft. Time is slipping away for him. I would rather he did not continue and be a 33year old still on the damn rookie list

Alot of talk about Fisher v Garlett not sure why they play differant roles but here are some stats

Fisher 2 games 2 tackles (ave 1) 4 goals
Garlett 6 games 11 tackles (ave 1.8)(5 in one game v Lions) 6 goals

I know forward pressure is more than just tackles but Garlett is just to small and they can break his tackles at the moment.

I think Fisher's goals are more important than just pressure

Garlett only had 4 kicks in a game of football not good enough

Interesting Hoops 8 Games 31 tackles (Ave 3.9)

It's great to see that Fish is able to back up his VFL performance from three weeks ago. It's pretty timely for us to go into the break because it means that we can see if Fisher can string two great ones together and prove that he deserves his spot.

Garlett's tackling was a real highlight in our win last weekend.

I went to the match and was fairly disappointed with the state of play. It was cold miserable and the wind a bit swirly. All in all a very scrappy affair with very few highlights. Of those I can recall -

Fisher played well, marked everything that came his way and kicked accurately (despite a couple of them going through helicopter style.)

Yarran ran off the backline as a receiver and set up a few in the forward 50, but probably missed as many passes as he made.

Bentley made a good attempt for mark of the day, climbing high on the back of a couple but failed to hold on on his way down.

Ellard kicked a very good roving goal in the first quarter.

Edwards played fullback and did an alright job.

Despite having Hadley, Bentley, Bentick, Ellard, Robinson and Russell on the ball at different times, unfortunately none really stood out.

As for some of the younger players ie Tiller and O'Keefe. They didnt really get much of a sniff.

I think someone has already pointed out Anderson who has been playing well only had an average day with some poor turnovers. Cloke had a quiet day as well. Hartlett was servicable in the forward line taking a couple of marks and passed a couple off.

Other than Fisher, no-one jumped out as a consideration for the Seniors'

garlett also put a shit load of forward pressure on the saints defence making them turn over and panic when rebounding.

Spot on, we have no other player in our side that does this any better, as far as I am concerned, he could have had only 1 stat, as he did his job!

Whilst Fisher has some weaknesses which are well known, he is still clearly our 2nd best tall forward option, and certainly takes some pressure and some of the double teaming away from Fevola as certainly last night Fev had virtually two players on him most of the night.

Yes but this is a team game and we nearly won, so having two guys on Fev is a good thing as you should be using up other options as we did. I wouldnt care less if Fev didnt get a kick as long as we win the game.

Fisher for me is too much of a mark, stop, kick over the mark type of player. By the time he kicks it, the opposition has set up and flooded back, and guess where that is??? Usually in front of Fev, so is he really worth having in the team? In saying that I still like him as a player as he has got great hands, however he really needs to quicken up in keeping the flow of the forward thrust going as well as chasing hard out of our forward line, whether he can improve here is however another story.

So I presume nothing more has been said about the biff and that he got away with it? Hopefully he gets picked when we play you in R21 and there's a rumble to keep things interesting while we're being picked apart.

Wheatley came straight on and spent the rest of the quarter having a bit of a pi$sweak jostle. Given that his career is completely necked anyway I vote they go toe to toe Derek Kickett vs Phil Read style in that game as a fond farewell.

I hope Robbo's agression isn't going to be a problem.

We all love it now because we love to see a young kid having a crack but in a few years when he is an important player we don't want him being suspended every second week like kerr.
