Feels like the SCG has been one of our least successful away-grounds over the last ten years. I'd be interested to know if this is accurate or if my intuitions are just wrong in hindsight.

The 3-1 odds feel about right to me. We most likely get done here by 30ish.

Still, if the majority of the team plays close to their best, we could certainly squeeze a win. We'll need to be competitive in the ruck / inside mid. Can't lose that battle too badly with their battlers around the ball.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if Paddy came in and turned back the clock to his 2022 best?

Our last 3 games have been a draw and 2 losses, but then 3 wins before the infamous -110 point loss in 2014.

Reckon we'll need Dangerfield if we're any chance. Not sure if Blicavs back squeezes out Neale or who goes out for Clark, but there's 3 changes right there, so selection could be interesting this week.

Like our chances a lot more with PFD playing. One would think they've been holding him over for this week's game.

In: PFD, Blicavs, Clark

Out: Touhy, Mullin, Henry (Injury)

Rohan into the 22, MOC to sub with 3 mids returning.

I think personal floatation devices are probably against the rules as it makes it too easy for you guys to bounce off players trying to tackle.

Getting thumped does nothing for the development of the kids.

Going down by 3 goals or so with Danger & Blitz playing, and still getting games into a large cohort of youth is far more viable than just going all out with the kids, and having a repeat of the GC game.

All of Bruhn, Holmes, Clark, Conway, Neale, Dempsey, & SDK are either certainties to play, or highly likely.

Mullin probably gets squeezed out for one of the returning vets, while Henry's out injured.

We're playing youth either way, might as well try to be competitive and teach them something than just having them get flogged.

The 'full rebuild' path you mention is basically what we're already doing. Our youth are getting games on merit, and have overtaken a lot of their senior contemporaries.

PFD, Blitz, and a fit Guthrie are the only veterans not in the side who are non negotiable best 22, and even then, that could be at the expense of guys like Touhy & Rohan who are on the fringes.
Rohan in my opinion is still in our best side while we lack anyone else who is capable of putting the wind up opposition backs he also is still capable of getting into the air for a big mark or to bring the ball to ground and exert real pressure in the chase down with lightning speed. In short he makes a more dangerous forward half.

I strangely get the feeling that we may jump them early annd actually beat them.
Everyone will book in a Swans easy win…. I can just see us turning up while they are rusty coming from a week off.
Yep sitting comfortable top of the ladder relaxed over the bye mind already distracted with finals must not get injured protect those hamstring's delegate a bit of the hard yards yes there maybe a little opening there throw everything at them early and see what eventuates.

I agree in theory. But I have watched it very closely the last couple of times he played (admit only for 60 minutes on Saturday) and I am worried that it is not as potent as we all remember. Now that might be him working back to his best pressure…

Similar to Guthrie, if they get there “old capability” back I think both are in best 23 and add something we don’t have. But if they are at 80% of what we remember I think the negatives will outweigh the possibilities

Lets hope it becomes clearer (in a positive way) on Sunday

Paddy's 2022 best wouldn't get it done. We'd need brownlow Paddy

I'm expecting little out of Guthrie this year now and it should be considered to this week with Rohan he's had very few good games V his old side he does look to go into his shell abit against them.

First trip to Sydney, and first trip to the SCG.
Please don't put in a shocking performance.
Take some earplugs.
The sad sound from those paper clappers will do your head in as will hearing Sweet Caroline for the 30th time.
Weird crowd at Swan’s game. Not much organic and it all seems a bit contrived and fake.

lets face it, we up against it and most likely a bad loss coming depending on how the swans pull up after their break. Lets regroup, reaccess and launch into another big run after the break.

I reckon we have a throw at the stumps with this one - nothing to lose coming into the Bye.

Keep Conway and Neale in the side , rest OH and play Rohan and tell him to go postal on their backs.
If I'm being reckless I'd throw Mullin in the middle on Warner - it's probably too early but after what he did on HF I reckon it's worth a shot. Mullin has enormous MF potential - I'd try and fast track him more.
Worried about Stewart, SDK and Kolo with those head knocks , need to be careful.

Go Catters !

You win the award for most positive take.

I'm hitting at least 250mC on the Cornes scale

Hey someone's gotta be the raaa raaa guy in here.

Good vibes only peeps :praying:

I understand those thinking we’re a chance, but the small SCG doesn’t suit our game style this year. I think we will get beaten comprehensively.

I’m calling the swans pretenders! Absolutely first half of year June champions and destined for a top 4 finish as it sits, but we all know they won’t get it done when it matters…..

The Swans will beat us soundly this week, so there's no point in playing guys if they're still a bit iffy injury-wise. I'd even rest Hawkins and Duncan this week, so they have a two-week break. Play Mannagh, Clark, and Blicavs. Drop Mullin, Hawkins (rest), and Duncan (rest).

I fully expect to get thumped but If we got 2022 GF Dangerfield, with the rest of the team playing at their round 1-7 level - we would be in with a red hot shot. Both are unlikely which is why I'm not expectant. But ya never know.
