CATS SHAKE-UP: Five changes on cards after shock loss
Jeremy Cameron looks likely to return for Geelong this week
By Mitch Cleary

RECRUIT Jeremy Cameron will spearhead a list of up to five inclusions for Geelong's side to host St Kilda this weekend at GMHBA Stadium.

Cameron has returned to full running and only needs to pass main training this week to be selected, six weeks after tearing his right hamstring for the third time this year.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews indicated on Monday morning the match would likely be played in front of no fans despite regional COVID-19 restrictions being eased from 11.59pm that night.

The Cats are also expected to recall Isaac Smith against the Saints after he was managed from the side which suffered a shock loss to Greater Western Sydney on Friday night.

Lachie Henderson (calf) and Mark O'Connor (knee) are set to return, while Tom Atkins will be assessed again later in the week as he deals with an ongoing back complaint.

Both O'Connor and Atkins were late outs from the side that defeated North Melbourne in round 20 and have joined Henderson in missing back-to-back weeks.

Small forward Gryan Miers will train on Tuesday having recovered from his second leg fracture of the season but is more likely to be in the frame for a round 23 return.

The Cats are confident Patrick Dangerfield will recover from a bruised larynx in time to face the Saints. The Brownlow medallist spent Friday night in hospital after the incident that saw Toby Greene offered a two-match ban but returned to the club on Monday.

Zach Tuohy will miss the remainder of the home and away season with a hamstring strain, while Gary Rohan will be touch-and-go with his latest hip complaint.

Should the Cats make all five changes, Nathan Kreuger, Max Holmes and Jordan Clark's spots will be put under the microscope.

With Cameron to return, a decision will also need to be made on whether Esava Ratugolea keeps his spot in attack or returns to the ruck in place of Rhys Stanley.

Last week's medical sub Quinton Narkle, who came onto replace Dangerfield, will also be vying for a position in the starting 22.

Out: Tuohy (inj), Close (rest), Sav, Krueger, Holmes
In: Atkins, Smith, Cameron, O'Connor, Hendo

If Rohan needs a week then Sav stays in the team. Narkle to be sub again, I'd be happy for Clark & Zuthrie to get another run. Despite the missed shot on goal I thought Clark was pretty good considering he hasn't played at AFL level for months

Sounds like Atkins will miss again, so fingers crossed we see him & Miers return against Melbourne

In: Cameron, Smith, Henderson, O'Connor & Evans
Out: Tuohy (inj), Close (managed), Kreuger, Clark & Narkle. Plus one of Rohan or Ratugolea, just depends if the former pulls up ok from his hip complaint or not

Clark to get the gig as sub

I read In: Cameron Smith, and thought wow that would be some code-hopping comeback!

I didn't actually notice that until your post - just the way I picked them out to return as per the earlier article on player availablity

If that's the case will they take the chance with Camerons hammy on a cold night in Geelong? Don't know why it can't be played during the day, not like any crowd is going.
To be honest the Saints game is must win, if Cameron is fit to play he plays.

If one of these guy's play out of Clark Narkle and Holmes, I hope it's Holmes
Narkle is first out.

On Clark versus Holmes. I think Holmes is outperforming expectations and I really like him long term, but from a leadership perspective you need to reward the decision-making and workrate and ignore some one off execution errors. That means ignoring the shank. On balance I think that puts Clark ahead of Holmes marginally for me.

What I'd like to see
Out, Rohan, Tuhoy, Dangerfield inj, Close managed, Narkle Kreuger Clark omitted.

In Cameron, Smith, Atkins, Henderson, Evans, Jarvis, Constable

But it won't happen...

We were crap.

This week we need to be very not crap if we are serious about being deep in September.

Lots of ins and outs by all accounts and some deep learning by those that made mistakes last week they'd rather not repeat.

At home too - not that it helped us last week.

More details will be added but m sure Chief will be looking for this.

GO CAtters
With respect to Bernstein and Sondheim can we please change the title to ‘Somehow, someday, somewhere’

Yeah sorry I couldn't help myself.

They seriously don't like our boy Joel. I was tempted to throw a bit of petrol on the flame and discuss the likes of Milne and Baker, as well as the famous footy trip photos of poster boys of Dal Santo and Reiwoldt, but thought maybe not.
I once created a throwaway big footy profile called the Broken Halo to troll them after the 2009 GF. Only because they were saying some pretty sore things about us (seriously, their team had half the talent that ours did).

Difference between our teams our captain dates a school teacher their players date the students.

Did you copy paste this from the previous games thread?

Exactly. Let them bring all the ammo they have, as far as I am concerned. Sick to death of supposedly having games won 'on paper' and then getting pantomimed by clearly inferior opponents.

I haven't seen much of the saints this year but last time we played them they brought pretty incredible tackling pressure for most of the game and only failed to get close to us because of poor conversion. Even the average teams seem capable of that on their day and I'd be predicting something similar from them this time especially as it paid off for gws last week. Good opportunity to get back to the way we want to play against the best. I'm sick of wondering about training loads and player fitness management and whatever. These matches are the one's we need to be using to just practice practice practice our A game, whoever's on the park, so that when we get to finals, and we have to hold our nerve against the best, we have that system embedded in us.

Surely Hawkins is due for a rest? I was hoping he would be rested last week against GWS. We need him fit and firing come finals.
