Don't think ok will cut it anymore in the new Carlton that Silvagni/Bolton are assembling .
Phillips is back playing and McKay will get his chance soon enough .

He was ok in the conditions.
Not really the type of day that suits big forwards.
We all know he's limited and probably won't be on the list in a couple of years time, but he competed and did everything we could have asked of him.

They could finish bottom 4, lose a few senior players to retirement, and go to the draft with two picks in the mid-late thirties (GWS second and their own third) as their best chance of finding some players...

Expecting them to make a massive play for Fyfe and Martin.
I doubt they would go. They will be bottom 6 for a few years at least. Realisticly won't start getting in talent until 2018 from Draft picks.

Rowe was good. Casboult was good. White was good.

Daisy wasn't good.

On the dry Etihad track where pace will be a factor next week, I'd like to see Thomas out and Fisher or Cunningham in.

Not sure where Charlie fits into the puzzle at this stage.
Polson before Fisher I think. Fish looked a bit lost at times on Saturday.

Also dropping the bloke when he has just played his best game in bloody ages doesnt send the right message, does it?

Did he really, though?

Simon White is consistent. He won't win a game off his own boot, but if circumstances demand someone play a different role, he's versatile enough to go forward, back or into the middle and make a good fist of it.

I'm not potting the guy, don't get me wrong. If you asked me what to expect from Simon White in any given week, it'd be that he'd do a good defensive job on an opponent, find a bit of the ball himself, be involved in some transition play, but have a handful of kicks that would have you on the edge of your seat. Seems to me that's exactly what he did.

In torrential rain, his long, high kicks were exactly what we needed to set up repeat stoppages as we battled our way down the ground. Against a fast-running GC line-up, under the Etihad roof, is it really that hard to understand that some people might be open to bringing in another runner with good disposal, rather than sticking with a slower defensive stopper, especially given our top-line defenders are doing an outstanding job anyway?

Wrong. Was at the game and I can now see why Daisy and White are persisted with. Time and again these guys did a ton of work off camera, the 1 percenters that don't land on the stat sheet, that make a win like this possible. The amount of shepherds, heckling off the ball and running to space to create the extra player in a chain - even though many were not used, was huge. I lost count how many times Daisy ran forward to create another option forcing Ess to man him up opening space elsewhere, will see him stay in the team.

So much is missed on tv. Daisy made a couple of blunders, but that was across both teams. He would have been in our top 5.
Not sure about top 5 but agree otherwise.

If you've

The weather was always going to present a tough day for forwards. Cas punch hit in the ruc and crashed packs. Constantly put his body on the line. There would be some very sore Essendon players today as a result.
I just he would stick his knee out a little more wheb crashing packs. Defenders will like standing in front of him that much less.

I love rain affected football. I think it's a childhood thing. Mud, sliding, pinball. I wasn't keen to attend yesterday but my kids left little room to decline. We park on the other side of the gardens which gives me the opportunity to vent about better times. My son's wise observations usually bring me back to reality. I was predicting 0-3 but he suggested we were a good chance to be 1-2 due to the weather. He predicted that the Bombers kick and chip game would struggle and they'd find it hard to get on the outside.

I took my seat in the Ponsford Stand and watched it all unfold. It wasn't a game for the faint hearted. Close in combat. I thought we adapted well and improved during the game. We kicked more than we hanballed. Often we just kicked to gain metres which is smart football on a rainy day. 111 tackles meant the Bombers were constantly under pressure. 134 handballs by the oppo gave us a chance to bring the game back to our terms. There were flashes of individual brilliance. Murph's two goals were game changers. Samo's left foot snap. His two sidedness gladdens my heart. Ed's snap in the last quarter was a beauty. The backline was sensational again. We're inexperienced down back but their ability to organise under pressure was crucial yesterday.

The talk on the way back to the car was about making it two in a row. Funny game football.

I'm the opposite and I watched it live. Can't question Daisy's effort but he struggles to keep up and do the basics well. Can't get to as many contests as others and defensively he is shocking. Any turnover or spread and he is easily left behind. Simply can't tackle and even before it rained he kicked blindly inside 50 to the opposition when we had men free. Any possessions are simply link up play that any player could get. He is getting everything out of himself but he is just hanging on. The 1 percenters people talk about are non existant. Any other player would do that as a starting point and it always seems to be the go to answer when people can't find anything else.

As for White he was good and Casboult did some good body work. Kerridge & Palmer were passengers.

We all know that White and Rowe are not superstars and will not be part of 17. However they love the club and jumper they play for and in this day and age we need to respect that even if they make mistakes, they are doing a job protecting our young defence and preparing us for the next generation.
well said indeed.

Agree with the Kerridge criticism Soapy - but I want him to get a 5 game run. He's got enough time age wise to be turned around. And he clearly has some good qualities.

I may be alone here, but I absolutely loved the all navy jumper.

I'd really like to see it again.
I agree. Off topic, but wouldn't mind a bit of the Inter Milan colour combo happening at some stage

It's wins like this that make me love this club even more. Against the odds, against an arch enemy with 5 teenagers in pouring rain.
How sweet it is!

Sums up how I feel. Everyone writing us off .... the heavens against us .... too many kids/not enough kids (depends who is penning the story) ...

Love IT! Watching The Plow stand up like a BEAST... watching SPS stop traffic with his little threads of silk .... watching a Captain play a CAPTAINS game .... (btw where was Jab?) ...

I quite like Kerridge but yesterday was the poorest game I have seen from him in a while. The issue is the disposal and decision making. Get that right and he will be a very good player. Don't and he shouldn't be in the side. Has everything else but as we progress and more players push for spots, effort & teamwork need to be the bare minimum, not why players are selected or kept in the side. Having said that still young enough and should be on the list next year.

Daisy's footy brain is still good .... its everything else that lets him down ... although I feel he played a good game yesterday. Credit where credit is due.

Kerridge has a tank ... can tackle, can kick a goal ... maybe HFF(pocket)? Never in the middle OR defence where a turn over can result in a 12 point swing.
