Hey bulldoggies. Good win this week against the Saints ! Bailey Dale had an unusually high score in Dream Team this week. Was just checking would you know if it was because of a stable role change / is he likely to continue getting high scores ? Cheers!

He’s an elite player who regularly racks up high scores. He started the year down on form but last week he just got back to his usual self.

Yes, he's back but it was only one game. Don't expect him to get that much latitude again this week. He usually gets big MG stats but he has only ever had 4 games above 32 disposals. So last Thursday was a bit of an outlier. His poor form just prior to that probably caught St Kilda napping.

(Please direct these DT questions through our sticky thread in future though)🙏

I like this stat "most sprints." It gives me a huge laugh. I love that it is the stat that Vandermeer excels in.
It’s actually a sacrificial role and even listened to Buckley over last few days he has said how WHE for pies played the role and did so much unrewarding stuff on field and he was the whipping boy of pies supporters quite often. VDM is the same for us.

When I saw "WHE" I immediately thought of Gia's last game. WHE killed us that miserable cold night but it was with ball in hand.

If he kicked for goal more accurately I think people would be a bit more forgiving. It's not as if there's a lack of extremely fit 5 foot 10 blokes in Australia. I think it's fair that the ones among those who rise to AFL level tends to be those who among other things can nail the occasional tough set shot or running goal. Vandermeer has now something like just 23 career goals from about 65-70 career shots. Even accepting he hasn't taken many marks at the top of the goalsquare, that's pretty woeful.

Compare to other HFF types, it's well below average for conversion. The same thing goes for his delivery to players lace out - he lacks composure/skill at the point of kicking at full pace.

He'll be dirty on Bevo for subbing him. I expect he stormed into Lade's office and demanded an explanation. Another unhappy camper in the dogs tent.
The club is disintegrating!

A conversion % of 29.1. Same as that Pies player Bailey Smith.

I double checked the numbers and it's closer to about 60, but still, that's a conversion rate below 40%.

Generally, there's a direct correlation between being shorter in the AFL and having greater accuracy, not because of any biomechanical reasons (if anything being taller helps you generate more shots on goal from further out with more power), but simply for the reason that the height distribution bell curve is taller below six foot and the way that players below six foot make it to AFL level above others is to be an above-average shot for goal. (Think how many games the Tory Dicksons of the world, realistically, would have gotten if he was an average shot for goal. Not bad, just average).

Vandermeer's played well the last three-four weeks and he won't get dropped for this game. But there gets to the point where 60 or so shots is a big enough sample size to know he's a poor kick for goal. Those 23 goals over his career really "should have" been 30 or 35. And given the value of his defensive work or structural work can realistically only be worth a point or two per game, he surely gives it all back by costing himself a point per game (5 points goal/behind, 10 goals more he should have kicked over 50 games).

Even without laying it out like that, I think people understand that by instinct, so that's why Vandermeer can be a little frustrating.

He does have a famous rushed/dribbled behind to his name though. :)

I'd like to see a side by side graphic of repeat Sprint vs repeat Brain Fade.

I know he tries his guts out, but he is still a dead set liability with ball in hand..

If we are at all serious at MC, his position has to be up for grabs by anyone in the Magoo's that is getting runs on the board...

As long as they are willing to work as hard and run as hard

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has conceded that it is “unlikely” that spearhead Jamarra Ugle-Hagan will make his AFL return this week.

Ugle-Hagan missed his side’s round six victory over St Kilda for personal reasons as the star forward returned home to south-west Victoria to deal with a private family issue.

“We’ll make sure he’s okay, we’re processing a few things, he is on a personal level and us supporting him,” Beveridge told reporters on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old was back at the club yesterday and trained this morning and Beveridge said the club will continue to support him.

“When any player takes a bit of time out of the game, that’s a difficult question to answer (if he’s ok)… I can’t really tell you exactly how he is.

“In the game and the pressures of it, every player at every club across the land is always dealing with something, as far as external scrutiny and internal expectations and ‘Marra is no different.
“He’s had some relations pass in recent times. So, he’s had that grieving and mourning aspect of his life that has compounded things for him.

“We’ll look after him and hopefully he can play some footy soon but that’s not the priority at the moment.”

Will just be the one change to the 23 this week with Libba returning and forcing Sanders out.
I'm not arguing that that's the likely change but I'd have loved to see them take Sanders over for the team experience of interstate football, preferably in the chosen 23.

I know he needs a full match so the match against the junior all stars is probably where he'll end up, but they also will need to take over at least one emergency wouldn't they? Often that will be a kid from that part of the world (like Arty or Buss) but maybe Sanders could be an emergency too?

I'm not sure but I think we will take 2 over, Daniel and one of Jones or Buss.

Sanders needs a couple of weeks to build in the VFL and get some confidence as the main man. There's no shame in someone like Macrae forcing you out of the best 22.

I'd take Arty & Buss as the emergencies. These kids would appreciate the gesture.
