A turn of phrase.

He's a forward, who are primarily designated to kick goals, which he hasn't done for, what, 4 weeks so far?

Sure, the stat nerds will bang on about score assists etc, but his role is to kick goals, not fluff the pillow.
I get your point but it’s hard to single home out when our forward line as a whole is doing SFA tonight …wait till the end of the night hopefully they all start clicking this half

Lever and May 3rd and 4th most disposals on the ground, says a lot really!!!
Yeah, because they're playing keepings off.

We've been ordinary, mainly forward of the ball...but this isn't a traditional Melbourne game.

They pride themselves (or at least they once did) on dominating contested ball and clearence getting a mountain of entries, while forcing hack kicks forward for Lever & May to feast.

That hasn't been the case. They've taken inspiration from 'Lyon Ball' and would rather play keepings off and try to win 50 vs 56.

For sure, we have bigger issues than just Hawkins tonight, but I guess he stands out because his individual contributions these last few weeks look stark compared to others.....before tonight (so far) anyway.

First half of Melbourne's game last week was the same, apart from the goal kicking this is how they want it.

s**t negative footy
Ross Lyons’ style? Ugly?

Geelong can compose themselves + play the game on their terms.

With so many of our players quiet, fumbly etc we have to switch on.

Nothing to lose at the moment, everything to gain!

Go Cats!

I'm not that negative about this so far. Melbourne are controlling the game and their zone is immense. We've been scrappy but that happens, conditions must be an issue with both team imperfect.
Hope Bruhn isn't badly injured, otherwise I'm okay with where things are at.

I'm hoping Scott & Co are busy waving the smelling salts in the rooms right now, and demanding to know what's going on out there, and why.

We CAN possess the ball cleanly, we CAN move the ball cleanly, we CAN kick cleanly, and we CAN play through the corridor....so why aren't we?!

Do what we do, and the rest will take care of itself.

We are winning clearances and have squared contested possessions/inside 50s. But that just goes to show those aren't our KPI's. Being fine with losing those stats and simply being efficient with the footy, and defending well against it: that is our MO.
We need to lose contested possessions to win, Mr Meow

Dees are attacking the ball... making something happen
Finding a target then short passing to a teammate
Cats are waiting for the turnover then rushing forward.
Need more poise and link up better going forward.
Also forwards need to contest to bring the ball to ground.
Dee defenders hate ground ball. Cats smalls will capitalize.
Despite inaccurate goal kicking.... keep it up, dam will break.
Simply Cats need to steady a little and play smarter.
