Round 11
This week marks the end of every side playing each other at least once, some interesting results last week!! Big games to be played this week...
Rockbank (8th, 4-6) Vs Romsey (1st, 10-0)
Prediction: Romsey
Melton Centrals (9th, 3-7) Vs Lancefield (12th, 0-10)
Last week Centrals put all the rubbish rumors behind them and picked up a superb win over one of their rivals for 6th spot in Wallan. While the season has so far been a little inconsistent, Centrals have shown what they are capable of if they compete as a unit, they pushed Sunbury to the limit a few weeks ago and the win at Wallan would be up there with the big win over Woodend/Hesket earlier in the year. Midfielder Justin Watkins continued his strong form over recent weeks with a best on ground and 2 goals. Centrals were down to no interchange at 3 quarter time last week and the spirit shown has to send a stream of confidence throughout the list.
The Tigers rough year continued, while they were competitive in the first half, the weight of numbers eventually caught up, a 12 goal to 1 second half seeing the Tigers run of losses continue. While they are trying hard, the Tigers youngsters face an uphill battle on a weekly basis. The important thing for these young guys is to follow the track set by Broadford last year, get game time into the kids and watch them improve, as long as they don't lose complete interest, they will improve and their efforts will eventually be rewarded.
This is another tough trip for the Tigers though and traveling to Melton with Centrals full of confidence, can't see them being rewarded this week.
Prediction: Centrals by 50 points.
Kangaroos (2nd, 8-2) Vs Wallan (6th, 4-6)
The Kangaroos are coming off what was a superb contest last week against the Redbacks. This weeks game at home will allow the Kangas to nail down a top 3 spot with a win. With the possibility of a couple of players returning to the lineup the Kangas are sure to go into the game stronger, Matt Welsh will add skill and class on a wing while the Kangaroos continue to bring in youngsters from the Under 18 for opportunities. The form of Dylan Wright and Jamie Cuffe has to be a boost to the line up while the dual full forward combo of Meacham and Baker will need to be stopped for the Magpies to be a chance. The Kangas have a real strength with the ability of the half back line to rebound. Jake Powell and Simon Clark read the ball well and provide plenty of drive.
The Magpies must rebound from last weeks horrible loss to Centrals, they are fighting for a position in the top 6 yet to drop a game last week puts them in the danger zone. While they have plenty of talent, these players have the tendency to go missing at important stages of the game, and playing against a side the calibre of the Kangaroos, any lapses will see them quickly blown away. Matt Robertson, Justin Collis, and Dave Cornish must have big games, if it is left to the youngsters up from the 18's they will have a very difficult game.
The Kangaroos should bounce back after the narrow loss last week, but surely the Magpies have to give a better account of themselves, a big loss here and their season could be slipping away.
Prediction: Sunbury Kangaroos by 40 points.
Broadford (11th, 2-8) Vs Diggers Rest (3rd, 8-2)
The Roos were a much improved outfit last week after the debacle against Woodend, they pushed Macedon right to 3 quarter time and looked as though they would push them all the way before being outgunned in the last term. They certainly weren't disgraced and it was good to see some new names in the best players.
What can you say about the Burra that hasn't been said a million times, fantastic team that is willing to work for one another, they have positioned themselves beautifully for another tilt at finals action. Any trip to Broadford is tough, but the Burra have enough class to get over the line here in what will be a really competitive game.
Prediction: Diggers Rest by 30 points.
Riddell (4th, 7-3) Vs Woodend/Hesket (7th, 4-6)
The Bombers added two new players to the line up last week and looked the goods against the Tigers, but this could be a danger game as these two have a long standing rivalry. The Hawks have been pretty good in recent weeks and will be desperate to pinch a win against a more fancied opponent to give them an advantage in the race for 6th spot. The young players in the Hawks line up have given them a real boost in youthful enthusiasm and has rejuvenated the line up. Ross Waters is in excellent form up forward, while Salpietro has been good in recent weeks. The loss to the Burra last week would have been disappointing, but it isn't the end of the world, the Hawks are capable, they just need to show up in the right frame of mind.
For the Bombers, Mick Allen continues to show why he is one of the most dangerous forwards this competition has seen. Needing to slow Allen down isn't made any easier with Ruffell, Baird, Elliott and now McMahon up forward. The Bombers midfield and forward line is up there with the best going around and will be looking to propel them into finals football.
Tough game for the Hawks on the road, would have given them more chance at home, but they can sneak a surprise, so who knows.

Match of the Round
Kilmore (10th, 3-7) Vs Macedon (5th, 7-3)
Most will see this as a strange match of the round, but I think this could be a cracking contest.
The Blues are a tough side to beat at home and with Goudge up and running again as well as Hede in great form, they are a huge chance this week. Don't get me wrong, they have to be. A chance at a finals spot is up for grabs. A loss here and it is almost bye bye to any finals hopes that they might have. In recent weeks the Blues have been aided by Assumption midfielder Alex Desmond who has been in sparkling form, his biggest advantage is the ability to kick goals from the midfield. Plenty has been said about the joining of the Gordon Brothers, but lets be honest, their impact has been serviceable at best to this point, the Blues need a lift from them if they are to be a finals hope. Shane Jacobs is performing as we all know he can and his output would be much improved if some of the names above can lift too.
The Cats are having a rough trot with injuries. Losing playing coach Al Meldrum certainly hurts, but James Wright has missed the last couple of games through injury too. Last week it was good to see Ash Fleming back to his best with 5 goals, while Jason Davies and Jae Wilton were named as the Cats best. This is a big test for the Cats who in the past have been asked the question away from home. They also come up against a side that has a very good midfield capable of winning contested ball, will that play a role in this game?
Things are getting tight for Kilmore in the race for 6th, while the Cats will want to keep their top 3 hopes alive with a solid win away from home.
Prediction: Macedon by 10 points.
