Obvious solution: the Flintstone's car. Still uses a lot of rock but it's 1:1 in what you dig up to what goes in the car. Plus no emissions!
The response time, as in not lag in peddle down in the high end models is meant to be awesomeEVs seem like such a cool ride. I look forward to having a drive of one. I just don't get the ideological opposition to them. Sure, there are hurdles to overcome before critical mass is reached, but why sneer at them? They won't save the planet but it doesn't mean we shouldn't have them.

To be honest the idea of "the average driver" typically getting around in vehicles that can 0-100 in 5 seconds or less is horrifying.
I'm imagining the weekly Dash Cams Australia videos but all plus 30kph. Faaark.

Just because you can go 0-100 in 5 seconds doesn't mean you have to. The instant torque of EVs is where this comes from, versus a combustion engine needing to hit it's efficiency and rpm to produce torque to move a car.
But much like a petrol, diesel or gas powered car, there's plenty of play room between 0% throttle and 100% wide open throttle. I wouldn't expect Joe Blow EV driver to mash the throttle on his car just as he didn't with his petrol car. And I'd expect those used to a performance petrol car who did drive in this manner to continue that trend if they ever switched to an EV.
