10 flags in 50 years.

We're pretty happy with that one.

Liked having the greatest winning margin in a GF till bloody Port...

Considering the way we entered the Competition.

For those who don't know, our 30 second Hawks history...

In 1925 North, Dogs and Port Melbourne were going to enter the VFL.

Port was blocked from entering and Hawthorn (ordinary VFA side) entered.

No draft picks or any other sort of help given out. Club was on a hiding to nothing. Took 20 years before we beat Collingwood in a game! Sat in the bottom 3 for years.

Then it all turns around in the late 50s - Thanks Kanga Kennedy.

1925-1950 Hawthorn was far worse than the Bears, far worse than Fitzroy of 1980s/90s, far worse than Richmond 1983-present, far worse than Swans of early 90s.

Yet the worst team in the first half of the century turned into the best team of the second half of the century. Not bad hey?

Only club to win a flag in each of the last 5 decades.

agreed that this is the one we should probably be the most proud of although in terms of one team dominating an era its hard to look past:

* 7 grand finals in a row (1983-89)
* 5 premierships in 9 seasons (1983-91)

* In coaching terms I remember at one point Allan Joyce had won 5 flags (2 day) 88 + 91 (and 3 night) 88+91+92 from 5 starts.

* 10 wooden spoons in 28 years isn't bad either (1925-53):D

A great achievement by a great club.

What are the records that your club and supporters love boasting about. For example Carlton and Essendon supporters are rightly proud of their 16 flags. For me the following records are worth boasting about
- Only team to win four flags in a row in VFL/AFL
- Only team to go through a Home and Away season undefeated
- First Team to win flag, brownlow and goalkicking in same year.
- 14 flags (certainly worth boasting about to 13 clubs)

What about your team, what records do they hang their hat on.

Why dont you add to your list, The fact that your club have been in the most Gf's aswell.

Never lost a GF.

Never "won" the wooden spoon (or even been remotely close for that matter).

Only missed the finals twice this decade and once since 2000. Matched only by Sydney on both counts.

I think most of all I'm proud that we never bottom out and are consistently there or thereabouts. Even though we inevitably fall short (and perhaps there might be a link between that and never getting any top 5 or so draft picks), I think there's some honour in fruitless consistency.

At least telling myself that helps me sleep at night :D

Cheers mate. Once again, apologies and have a good one.

The only club to have won 16 Grand Finals.

That's in spite of the Essendon fans in this thread claiming the record of being the only club to have 16 flags. :eek:

Zero spoons up until 2002 was a proud record when we've been in the competiton since it first started.

Nothing last forever.

Building ourselves up from a working class and initially struggling club into arguably the most succesfull club in the VFL/AFL.

We're silvertails and Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon are working class clubs. :rolleyes:

Carlton were the first club to appoint a specialist non-playing head coach in 1906 - The First Of Many.

I believe Carlton were initially refused permission to join the VFL when we were the most successfull VFA club with 7 premierships.

Three more than Essendon.

The following fact which I only discovered in the last three days. :eek:

In 1979, Carlton kicked 100 points or more in 22 of their 24 games. The two games they didn’t score a century was the Grand Final (82 points) and rd 20 Footscray when they scored 90 points. Carlton won both of these games and scored a century in each of these first 19 rounds, a separate record.
