Well, they hand out no trophies for this one. Nor will a Victorian-led league ever acknowledge it, but West Coast saved Aussie Rules.

The league was insolvent in the late 80s when the Eagles coughed up a more than generous fee to enter into the league and keep the expanded VFL alive.

Once in the league, the WCE taught teams how to condition and prepare atheles for matches.

Finally, sans the past couple of years in the wilderness, our club brought a level of managerial expertise that reverberates through the league today at a number of powerhouse clubs including Geelong (thanks Cookie) and Adelaide (recruiting).

So enjoy the chat about the 1950s and how mighty your team was in the 1920s but you'd be bickering over something that didn't exist today if not for the Weagles.

Interesting angle. I like it.

Proud of ?

a "record" i am proud of is the Club song.

Also proud of the club guernsey.

Going on a different angle - apart from records -
I am proud that the following premiership players (amongst others) played at our club:

Wayne Harmes
Wayne Johnston
Stephen Kernahan
Bruce Doull
John Nicholls
Brent Crosswell
etc etc.

hopefully there is more to look forward to in the future. It would be nice to add Juddy to that list of Carlton premiership players.

in terms of "records" - the 1972 grand final 177 points vs Richmond (largest grand final score) is a good record.

This may seem a strange one - we forfeited a Grand Final (VFA) in 1904 rather than play under one particular umpire. It wasn't sour grapes - there were serious allegations of 'improprieties'. The Tigers stuck to their guns.
And when the VFL went to choose more clubs to join 3 years later, Richmond was one of them.

I'ma also proud that the club voted Save Our Skins as the most memorable moment in our first 100 years - it proved that the most important part of the Richmond Club is the supporters, and the club recognised this.

Another record I like is the period from 1927-1934. The Tigers made 7 of 8 Grand finals. They kept getting knocked off by the Collingwood 4-in-a-row (the tigers were the team that spoiled Collingwoods unbeaten season, but they couldn't repeat it in the 'second chance' game they had back then), but when the Magpies team faded, the Tigers stayed up there and played in 4 more GFs after that, winning 2. If the 4-in-a-row team is the greatest ever (and they are in the argument), the Tigers of the same period may be the 2nd best of all time.:p:p

North Melbourne:

First club to have a cheersquad.

First club to have coterie groups.

First club to play Friday Night Footy.

First club to have sponsors.

First footy club in Australia to wear a vertically striped jumper. Long before Collingwood or Hawthorn.

Longest unbeaten streak in football history. 58 games from 1914-19.

Record 8 consecutive prelimnary finals appearnaces from 1993-00.

Most consecutive games with a bag of 30+ goals.

Most consecutive games with a margin of 1 point between two clubs (Weagles, even though they won two of the three, still great games).

Most Brownlows won (Skilton with 4)

agreed that this is the one we should probably be the most proud of although in terms of one team dominating an era its hard to look past:

* 7 grand finals in a row (1983-89)
* 5 premierships in 9 seasons (1983-91)

Melbourne
1954 - 1960

7 grand finals in a row
5 premierships in 6 years, 1955 - 1960
the year they didnt win it they were ridiculously high favourites, but well done to collingwood for preserving their record

Winning 34 SANFL premierships, a South Australian record :thumbsu:

And for the sake of the thread It's not a comparison of VFL/SANFL so lets not turn it into one.

6 flags in a row.

Several Australian Championships

Only non-VFL club based team to be invited into the AFL.

Beat the most dominant team of our time in an AFL Gf.

um the 2nd biggest winning margin in a grand final
1980 against collingwood
and i think the first player to win the norm smith from the losing team Maurice Rioli
2007 Geelong beat Port by 119
1988 Hawthorn beat Melbourne by 96
1983 Hawthorn beat Essendon by 83 :(
