Given the way Mini has gone about it since taking over, if he isn't appointed as the head coach moving forward, then the coach we do appoint will have well and truly earned it, but at the same time, the pressure is going to be on them to bring results from the get go, as I suspect that there will be many a Richmond fan who has pretty much appointed McQualter to the position in their minds already. As far as I'm concerned the position is still wide open and I trust that those in charge of appointing the new coach will select the best person for the role. I've got a feeling that we may be surprised by the actual appointment
Agree…mini is doing a great job, but not 100% sure he is the man to propel us forward
Lets see what Mini has in the bag over the next 5-6 weeks…

keen to have the coach sorted prior to the draft though

Gale as good as said we want the position sorted before the finals and draft.

Thats Rubbish mate

Leppa is on record on why they /he left
Caracella moved to the club he played for with a massive pay increase
Fly has always moved to futher his coaching career and his development and was assistant to Voss , Malthouse , Buckley , Dimma and Clarkson and coached the Richmond VFL.

Leppa left when the soft cap was cut and Dimma was on such a large deal it was not financially viable for him to stay when he was making more $$$ in the media.

Mini would have been the 2nd last cab off the rank with just Clarke behind in the old crew

Not sure where you are getting the Mcrae clone from he is nothing like Fly or have anywhere near the experience
Fly clone was Neil balmes own words
6 weeks ago on sen

Leppa didn't leave due to soft cap that's media beat up

Sorry If I'm upsetting the natives who don't believe this is nothing more then a perfectly executed transition

Mini being next coach was known yearz ago .

Unless we drop away considerably I can’t see how anyone else but mini gets it. It’s not like we are looking for an experienced coach with runs on the board, we’re looking at first time coaches so it would need to be someone that absolutely blows them away in the interview if they go with anyone else.
Pretty well how I see it

The fact you have never been correct before suggests to me that nobody had any idea how the future would unfold years ago and that there will now be a process conducted to select the new coach, O'Rourke's own words on radio in the last week. ;)

Yep this has been the belief all along that the succession plan was in place. Dimma even dropped that there was a succession plan during the Dyl and Friends pod.

Ross Lyon threw everything at him to get him to the saints but he turned it down. Wouldn’t even entertain it. Their belief was that he was inline for Richmond back this time last year or whenever Ross got the saints nod

If Mini McWalter was the coach in waiting then why are we going through this process and not just have him appointed already ?
Just doesnt make sense

For me he was always behind McRae , Leppa & Caracella and is pretty much the last man standing and in many ways is a Dimma lite
Now he may become a great coach who knows but he has been at Richmond for nearly 10 years and assistant for 7+
But never really considered for any senior coaching positions or been mentioned and his entire coaching has pretty much been under Dimma
Just feel he is too young and needs another 5 years under a different coach in his apprenticeship to be the finished coach

But i suppose the club would know what he has to offer

I just feel Josh Carr has had more to offer and has done more in his coaching career

Port Adelaide assistant coach (2011-2015)

Between 2011 and 2015, Carr served as an assistant coach for Port Adelaide under senior coaches Matthew Primus and Ken Hinkley

North Adelaide Football Club senior coach (SANFL) (2016-2019)

Between 2016 and 2019, he served as senior coach of the North Adelaide Roosters in the SANFL, guiding the club to the premiership in 2018

Fremantle Football Club assistant coach (2019-2021)

In October 2019, Carr was appointed by Fremantle as an assistant coach for the 2020 season under senior coach Justin Longmuir.[5] On July 30, 2021, the club announced that Carr had stood down for an unstated period after he was fined by police for breaching WA quarantine restrictions

Port Adelaide assistant coach (2023-present)

Carr returned to Port Adelaide Football Club as senior assistant coach under senior coach Ken Hinkley for the 2023 season
How would you know how he was rated relative to the others , if I believed what I read around here in last couple of years none of our asst were employable and they should be dumped , nek minnit Kingsley slaying it , mini was also pursued by both blues and saints, I trust those in charge that have presided over our dynasty to ID the man best suited to succeed post dimma

There is a thread of truth in that , never mind YD he’s just adding up 2&2 on what gets reported

I am confident it’s between Mini and Carr, my view they are no1 and 2 for the position. Mini won’t be just gifted the top job.
If we re doing our diligence then there’ll be others closer to home that won’t be discounted, chappy , Grigg , and even skippy from coll . I’d be quite surprised if it were down to Carr and mini tbh , reckon the challenger will come from the 3 above I mentioned

McQualter made it to thd last 3 for the Carlton job FYI. Leppas record as a senior coach was garbage. Fought with players etc. Great assistant coach, however I would argue he was ahead of Mini. I would say McCrae and Kingsley were ahead of him. If Caracella was so shit hot, why after nearly 20 years he never got close to a top job?
So the claims of last man standing is a poor take.
If he was at another club, we would be salivating over a guy who has played in grand finals and has been a 3 time premiership assistant coach who is actually sought after by other clubs.
I just don’t know why some Richmond supporters always shit on our own.

Rubbish as Dimma was still contracted to 2024 and could’ve easily had that extended. There was never any mention of minibus coaching RFC until he took over as caretaker. Most fans didn’t even know he existed and I’m serious.

The original plan was 2025 this just gives us a 12 month head start
