Would be funny if it was Buckley though

He has, but he was also a line and senior assistant during 17, 19 and 20, which were pretty important years at Richmond.
We've got in 2 good clearance players, yet our clearance work is much the same. Got beaten by cats and essendon in clearance even though they were missing most of their midfield. Massive red flag. Do not want.

He started with Port at the same time Hardwick started with Richmond.
Hardwick got 3 flags, Hinkely adapted and come up short over and over again.

Would hate that decision.

Fair enough. I think it’s tremendously difficult to win premierships and so much has to go right; and so a coach not winning a premiership but getting to multiple preliminary finals is a sign of a good coach.

Only coach that may be available that does have premiership experience is Adam Simpson. Which considering how bad West Coast are isn’t without its concerns.

Only 1 year less experienced than dimma was in 2010

Dimma has said on multiple occasions that in hindsight he was too young and inexperienced when he took over in 2010.

But we now have money and resources to back grigga with able assistance in assistant coaches and in development, and in management,,things we couldn't give dimma back in 2010

Would greatly prefer we look external and don't hire a favourite son such as Grigg or Newman. It never works out.

Just cast the net and find the best candidate. Don't worry about what category they fit into. Hafey was a battling former player who had coached well at country level. Jewell was a battling former player who had coached Caulfield to a Div 2 VFA flag. Hardwick very good career as a player at successful clubs, and that success seems to have followed wherever he has gone since.

Alan Jeans was a reasonable player who started coaching from a very young age, in his 20's I think. Blight was a champion player, had 4 cracks at coaching, poor results at North, better results at Cats but lost 4 Grand Finals, similar at Crows except won their only 2 Grand Finals, and poor at St Kilda. Roos was a retired player of the club he coached to a flag. Clarkson was a pretty average player at a few clubs before getting into coaching wherever opportunities arose. Fagan will be a chance to coach a flag this year, older guy who didn't fit a mould for successful AFL coaches. Beveridge coached very successfully in the amateurs before landing at Bulldogs where he had previously played some footy.

It is unwise I think to rule anybody in or out just based on their profile. A Jack Riewoldt or Trent Cotchin or let's say some guy who has never played at AFL level, or some random ex-player from elsewhere or a Todd Viney or David Noble could go through your process and stand out as the right person with the right ideas that suits the club at the time. Or a more conventional candidate.

Just have a good process and select the best person for the club based on everything the process reveals and everything else that is previously known.

The more I think about it the more I want us to pick someone that has never been a head coach before.
Caracella, Yze or Gia.

If they want experience, I can't look past Bucks.

Tend to agree. Could add Hansen and Carr to that mix.
I really couldn’t care less re experienced or not or flags or whatever

As long as the board run a robust process and they find the right person it could be a monkey who shakes a magic 8 ball for I care

It would be a mistake to rule anyone out from even applying for the rule simply because they aren’t deemed to have enough experience or had to much elsewhere without seeing success or they don’t have the right last name

The problem it seems with other clubs who have looked for coaches but failed is because they have chased names instead of just running and trusting the process

If Collingwood got worried about that kind of shit they would probably have Voss right now

Wtf do so many people want figjam? He was gifted the youngest premiership team in history and turned a potential dynasty into a dog turd. The stench of their own racism scandal only vanished cos Krakour and Davis were given a paycheck for no show jobs.

He shafted Treloar then told him all his teammates wanted him gone, when they all loved him. He achieved bugger all with the exact same list McRae has already turned into a juggernaut. Plus his team was bloody horrible to watch. I'd rather the best untried coach surrounded by experience and quality assistants and pour money into development, fitness and skills. Meehan might as well jump on seek now.

Caracella has already had a coach sacked above him at essenton and its too far to drive to punt rd for him

I was speaking to an ex Richmond player yesterday and he agreed with me that it should be anyone but Bucks

Geez I hope we don’t end up with him

Tactically he might be ok but Really not sure about his people skills. Think if things go bad he just doesn’t have the tolerance or genuine care to ride those bumps.

No doubt Bucks inherited a very good list in 2012 . Premiership 2010 r/u 2011Best facilities in the competition and blind faith from the President .

Shades of The Geich .

the process these days is much more professional than back then.

Mini is getting plenty of endorsements . Ross Lyon just on the radio stating that they tried to poach him when he got the Saints job. Also have heard that he was rated very highly by Carlton ( interviewed for senior coach).

Having said that I have complete faith in the process we will go through. We will identify the best candidate, no short cuts like the Geish days

How many caretaker coaches ended up becoming successful coaches after being taken up? It’s a serious question because I actually don’t know. I just don’t remember the last one that did.
Brett Ratten (Carlton 2007), Mark Harvey (Fremantle 2007), Neil Craig (Adelaide 2004), Paul Roos (Sydney Swans 2002), Peter Rohde (Western Bulldogs 2002), Grant Thomas (St Kilda 2001), Jeff Gieschen (Richmond 1997) and Terry Wallace (Western Bulldogs 1996).
