This makes a lot of sense.

Firstly, treating Polak the same way as Rama is fair regardless of who Richmond choose to replace him. Secondly, from a football perspective it will be good to see Cousins playing in the AFL again if Richmond do eventually draft him.

Another attempt from Wallace to deflect attention away from himself in the last year of his contract.

Well done Terry :thumbsu:

Richmond clear way for Ben Cousins

BREAKING NEWS: RICHMOND has asked the AFL for permission to put Graham Polak on the rookie list, potentially clearing the way for them to draft Ben Cousins.

Polak is recovering from severe brain trauma after being hit by a tram during last season.

The Tigers have asked the AFL for permission to put him on the rookie list as a long-term injured player.

Essendon was allowed to do that with Adam Ramanauskas when he was recovering from cancer.

If Richmond was allowed to demote Polak it would get an extra pick in next Tuesday's Pre-season Draft.

It currently has pick No.6 in the draft.

If it had a second one, it would be the only club with a pick in the second round of the draft.

That would give the Tigers room to add fallen Eagle Cousins to their playing list.

The self-confessed drug addict appeared to be out of options for his AFL career after the Brisbane Lions declared they would not be drafting him before last month's AFL Draft.

The AFL has circulated the Tigers' request to the other AFL clubs for discussion ahead of next Monday's AFL Commission meeting where a decision will be made.

gee this has come from absolutely no-where !

One has to ask why at this very late stage are Richmond finally getting around to thinking about their squad and the Graham Polak situation?

Surely they could have started the process to invoke the Adam R mature age rookie ruling MONTHS ago.

Also 3AW are adding that Richmond will chose among Cousins, Nick Davis, Nathan Carroll and if you believe this Adam Yze.

So others tie up their options I guess.

With no disrespect to Richmond or Cousins, am I the only one with the feeling that, for a variety of reasons, Cousins will have little impact if he gets on the park next year?

I could easily be wrong, but I just can't see Cousins getting anywhere near elite status again. Of course, Richmond wouldn't be paying him elite money anyway.

If this is true, I'm very happy that he has been given a lifeline by another AFL team. Awesome news if true. If true, I can't wait to see him back in action. If this is true, this is the biggest AFL story since the season has finished.

The Ramanaskus precedent that was set has made a mockery of the proper use of the rookie list. If Richmond wanted to make an application for Polak (and the circumstances are different from Ramanaskus who contracted an illness through no fault of his own) then surely they should have made an application much earlier than now. Why have they left it so late unless they were taking the piss? Is Polak's injury any different to any other player who might be injured - eg the West Coast ruckman a few years back?

On another note, they really have played this years "superdraft" differently to everybody else.

They only had 3 picks in the ND, one of them a injured player with two bad knees who happens to be a son of one of their staffers, and another who is an Essendon reject. They have hardly feasted on this years batch of exciting young players. Now they are in the PSD sctatching around for the leftovers with not one, but TWO picks!!!!

All that said, if they get away with it, good on them. And good luck. I just hope for Richmond's sake they havent been "Sheedy'd".

Anyone think maybe Sheedy is the guy behind this? He loves resurrecting careers

of course he was renouned for picking up players who have been out of the game for a couple of years or delisted by other clubs when they might be past their used by date.

paul salmon and timmy are a couple that come to mind. bringing them out of retirement

murphy and camporealie from carlton and mal michael and barnsey
