Rielly and Douglas?

Hey

What would Rielly and Douglas be worth on the trade table?
Both are Vic Boys.
Did notice that Douglas was out of the side the last few games but im unsure if that was because of an injury.

think douglas is going to surprize people in a couple of years.. he has obvious talent.. just needs to get the ball more, and with that confidence.. always saw him as a similar player to chapman. obviously nowhere near as good, but just to play the same kind of position, and he should improve.. see where he is in 2 years time before we consider trading him.. especially seeing as 2 years time should be a stronger draft than this year

It would be terribly upsetting to see Radar leave - not least because it will only leave Vince, VB and Mackay for the Vic commentators to confuse themselves with.

Rather than asking how much are they worth, why not suggest how much you would be willing to pay?

So how much would you be willing to pay?

Todd Goldestein?

nah, that's something Freo would do

Douglas is probably worth a late 2nd ronud pick
Reilly a bit later (age factor)

Both would be worth an early second rounder.

When you speculate on a value, why not look at the actual trades that have been done in the past, and use them as a reference point?

Farren Ray - What'd he go to the Dogs for?
Jordan McMahon - What'd he go to the Tigers for?
Mattner - What did we trade him to Sydney for?
Symes - What did we pay for him?

Considering the strength of the draft, they're probably worth about 5 or spots earlier. Im thinking 15-25 in this draft ? No lower than 25 though.

The value of Reilly and Douglas to us is greater than what we would get for them in the open market.
I agree. We should IMO only trade players like these if we can get a player or pick of equal or greater (potential) value in return. I think some people think we should trade players out just because we dont like them.

FFS not every player on our list is going to be a regular automatic first 22 pick every week. Some of them are depth players, and maybe that's what Douglas is. Maybe he hasn't lived up to the value of his draft pick but he's not a spud either. Maybe kids like Sloane are going to go past him, fine. He's still a handy player and you won't lose much when you have to pick him because injuries have you reaching down to #26 or 27 (or wherever you think he fits) on the list.

If Douglas wants to go to a club where he's more likely to be a regular first team player, then we could help him out, but only at a fair price - and as you say, he's worth more to us than his market value.

I simply do not understand why we would trade Reilly.

That's what you have to weigh up I guess aye.

If what you are getting greater than what you have? If so pull the trigger, if not don't.

Of course many things play into value, even down to their friendship with certain players.

Tough job, but I love this sort of stuff, Free Agency will be crazy in the future, will be a lot of wheeling and dealing.

L. Thomas & 2nd Rnd pick for R.Douglas & 2nd Rnd pick?
Interesting thought. I would prefer to keep Douglas & Reilly, particularly with the retirements of our 30+ players, but we do need a forward crumber ... however, I think we are in need of one which applies more pressure than Thomas (to take over for Dangerfield moving into the midfield).

Reillys value around the club is useful and has been a mentoring figure to the younger boys that come over from interstate. Not to mention very loyal to Adelaide.

I hope he gets another year at Adelaide, he started producing some of his best form his had here late in the year. Get a decent preseason into him and he could just be a late bloomer.

No one rated Montagna before this year, now look at him. One of the elite players supposedly. (i refer to montagna as he was takin in the same draft as reilly yet only just consolidated his spot this year)

Id say a fair trade would be one of either Reilly or Douglas for Gibson and an exchange of second round picks

Gibson could fill that medium size defender role to release Otten into the middle
