Pendlebury realisticaly will be a big chance.

Selwood I think has to be up there from first year players, X. Ellis will play a fair bit this year but will be in and out of the side, nominated but not a shot at the reward, a year off making his mark.

Beau Muston outside chance.

Gibbs obviously, but I think Selwood looks more ready made for round 1 from the little I've seen pre-season

If one could bet on this that would be my roughy - 12 months in the system now which enabled him to work on his upper body strength - was a top 3 fancy for the 2005 draft before he did his knee. Only one issue - has to have full confidence on his knee for him to secure the title

Selwood probably had more touches in the 3rd quarter of the Richmond game than Gibbs had in the entire NAB Cup! :p :thumbsu:
Then it's a pity Gibbs has more talent than Selwood, a career isn't built around practice matches and Bryce can walk through four tackles without breaking into a sweat.

Enjoy Selwood because Murphy and Gibbs are better footballers.

Better footballers? Big Call...

Selwood was Murphy's captain and he was younger. Would have gone #1 in '05 if he was eligable for the draft.

Would have gone #1 in '06 if he didnt injure himself. Surely that means something. Let alone his performaces this year so far. With NO real game time since Rd3 last year.

Selwoods got it in the bag.

Yes, if Selwood was a better footballer and midfielder than Gibbs we would have drafted him.

I highly doubt that after what we've seen Murphy do in his first season and how hard he goes at the ball. And there's the little matter of Murphy winning the Larke medal in that year's U18 carnival.

I'm sorry, but Gibbs, Hansen, Gumbleton and Thorp were all rated as potential number ones at this time last year and I think you would have taken the Berger if you had the chance.

Just take a look at Mojo's threads if you want confirmation. ;)

Keep talking down Bryce Gibbs who is a class act just like Murphy and a brilliant tackler because you're making yourselves look like fools.

Only if he's holding Gibbs' or Kennedy's bag.

Selwood was talked about as a potential number one pick from the age of 15...

It's all redundant though, Gibbs went one, Selwood didn't. I hope they both reach their potential.

Not talking down Gibbs, I reckon he will be awesome, I just think Selwood will definatly be up there for the RS.

The only reason Selwood didnt go #1 was because he barely played a game in 2006.

We dont really have any huge expectations of him this year as we already have an established midfield.

Gibbs will be a great player but I have my doubts whether he will win medals because he does not get huge ammounts of the ball and he isnt flashy. Better options out there ie, L.Thomas, Pendlebury, Higgins ect.

the Handbag?

I remember the abudant confidence Carlton supporters displayed after their last wizard cup win.

We might have fell apart last year but for a good many years we have been one of the hardest teams at the ball, in fact last year we had the most hard ball gets in the AFL. Im pretty confident we have been in the top 3 for the last 3 or 4 years in that department.

Would be interest to know how the Blues go getting the ball thats in dispute?

Well soon as people keep picking players from there own teams lets get a betta idea of who people think will win it by not picking players from our own team.

I think Higgins for sure if he's eligible if not then probabaly Gibbs or Hansen

Winner will be most likely a midfielder who can get 20 touches a week and plenty of game time. Pendlebury and Jones would be the most likely now IMO, perhaps Selwood. I like Gibbs but I'd write him off for the award now.

Can't see one of the little Roos or Dons forward pocket short people winning it, none of the key possie players look ready and the only possible half back loose man type who could rack up lots of possesions like Raines etc did is Ellis but doesnt look like he'll play much yet.

Rising Star award? Pfft...

Some of the eligible players have been in the system for four years.

Marc Murphy is 18, has been on Carlton's list for 16 months, has played 13 games and is one of the true rising stars of the AFL, yet he's ineligible.

What a joke of an award.

I can't believe people devote so much time talking about this flawed concept.

If you played under 10 games you are still eligable. Once your over that limit in 1 year then your out.
