This really makes sense until it doesn't. Call it skills, fitness, difficulties gelling with new mids, game plan failure, whatever you can research, but it's not hunger. It's no use pulling out the psychological barbs to explain losses unless you know much more of individuals, and lack of motivation at this level is very rare.
Lack of motivation at this level is very rare? 30+ and a cup and millions in the bank…why so innocent? Unless you can prove it?

Unclear. Are you trying to say because they've achieved success they've lost the will to win?
No mate. I don't have to prove anything, trust me....but you keep doing you.

I really wish they would stop thinking this is an option. He has just settled back into good form on the back flank after losing his way.

He is no good as a midfielder.

But I expect to see him in there too.
He's actually done a really good job when put in the centre square. But I think he thrives on the extra space at the centre bounce given his speed over the first 2-3 steps rather than being particularly good as a mid once there's more congestion.

I'd definitely be open to him starting in the middle more often but then shifting to a half back flank or defensive winger role in general play.

He seems to hesitate on the outside too much as a mid. Appears to be waiting to tackle, defensive mindset. It's just skills and experience that our previous midfielders have had in abundance- like a well oiled machine. He does try his guts out and looks more comfortable back.

Smith was 30+ with a similar bank balance before he came and helped add some silverware. He's just come off a Norm Smith and is one of our better players for the year to date

A good example. And we could list so many others. 'Lack of hunger' is basically nonsense as an explanation.

These are professional athletes, competitive creatures who have pride in their performances and who want to win every single time. Of course there might be a slight edge of desperation that some of them don't have from last year but hardly material in the scheme of things and given all the other much more realistic things that are not working at the moment.

It also doesn't explain anything about the half of the team who didn't win last year. Arguably for them the Premiership urgency is greater than ever for them - this year could be their very best chance.

Parfitt in the 22 this week? - the following is from the Club's email about our Indigenous Guernsey & Sir Douglas Nicholls Round:

Geelong midfielder Brandan Parfitt said he is looking forward to wearing the First Nations guernsey and representing the Club over the next two weeks.

“The round is pretty special to me, to my family, all the past players and everybody that has gone before me,” Parfitt said.

“It means a lot and I love playing in these games. At the start of the year, it’s one of those games that you really want to be a part of.”

Is the vfl wearing it?

Is the vfl wearing it?

Our AFL, VFL & VFLW teams will wear the guernsey over the next 2 matches of their respective competitions, with our AFLW team to wear in during their upcoming season

Our AFL team will wear the white version this week, and then the dark blue version at home against GWS

I'm not suggesting Parfitt should be safe from omission, but it's an interesting quote from a player seemingly on the fringes of selection and for the club to use it in promotion ahead of this week - doubtful that Parfitt is talking about wearing it to play VFL

Big fan of Harry but not sure he would be capable of curing busted eye sockets, broken wrists, foot stress fractures and torn ankle ligaments.

Stress fractures are preventable, as are hamstrings and calf strains - this makes up 60% of our injury list.

Thats fair, although the injuries to sdk and stanley (which are structurally our 2 biggest outs) were definitely not preventable.

Is this the Jordan Clark or Stephen O’Reilly cup?

Hopefully a few ins this week and we can get the job done. Our form has been pretty good we just didn’t take our chances early last week and got overwhelmed in the end with a very undermanned team.

Would like us to beat Freo at home as payback for last years loss!

MOC will play more mid i feel.

While our midfield is depleted I am very open to MOC doing a run with role to hopefully nullify one of our opposition’s strengths. Hawks tagged Serong for a half recently and held him to less than 10 touches - they then dropped the tag. I’d send MOC to him, if we can restrict him to 20-odd touches it will be a win.

The clear path to Freo winning this game is Darcy, Serong and Brayshaw smashing us in the middle. If MOC can nullify one of those threats it will go some way to winning. FWIW I expect Ceglar to be competitive for a half and then completely run out of steam in the second half, I’d be going in planning to sub him off and put Blitz in the ruck from there to get an advantage… and pray to god that we don’t get another in game injury that ruins this plan.

Shane Kersten cup

sound like Parf thinks he will be playing.
As much as he isn't playing like a player that deserves to be in the team, the moment he wasn't subbed out last week did make me think that he was going to be more of a chance of playing than his form indicates.

If his name is Dempsey or Knevitt and has their experience but with his own form... He is dropped every day of the week.

Chris Scott on... Jhye Clark

It's a little bit early in the week for us to be absolutely decided on it, we've got a few balls in the air, but Jhye didn't do his chances of coming into the 22 any... even a quarter and a half or whatever it was, it's not so much about output necessarily but I think all of us were looking for little snippets of what he could be and the temptation there is to think he's shown us in those snippets that he's going to be a really good AFL player for us.

We can lose track of what we're trying to do in terms of his management but there's no reason to think he couldn't come into our 22 and play well.

Surely it's the Drum & Drum Cup...

He must be thanking god he got drafted to Geelong rather than some shit team. We can guide his development gradually whereas otherwise he'd be thrust into the main team from desperation and they'd be articles about if 'he's a bust' after a few rounds.:straining:
