Agree we should be respectful to each other but we should also show some respect for the players.
The disrespect shown to some players who lifted a 🏆 for us 33 odd games ago is bewildering but not surprising here unfortunately.

Watching the battle of the A-grade midfields happening in Adelaide. Cancelling each other out. Horne-Francis barely warmed up.

Yeah, I would've liked to see Mannagh in.....really don't know what he did wrong.

I hope we win this weekend....just don't have any particular confidence about it.
He did nothing wrong, Geelong did, picked a mature aged small forward in a team stacked with good smalls. Kinda feel bad because he's been doing okay and would probably be playing in a team like Carlton. Feels like we've made a few impulse buys and not really thought to hard about it. We delisted that kid after 6 months who was a small forward and then went and got another one. We picked Hardie with what looks now like no intentions to play him. I'm guessing internally we've conceded we are not going deep in finals and we're focused more on playing a younger group, which is fine, unless your Hardie or Man.

The biggest issue I see for Mannagh is that the role he is playing in the VFL is one where we don't currently have a vacancy for in the seniors - that of a small forward

Last Saturday, every centre bounce for which he was on the field, he started in our forward 50 - from there he'd either be our deepest forward or be working up the ground, and at one stage in the first quarter he even found himself on the GWS goal line, stopping a certain behind & getting a clearing kick (nevermind it went straight to a GWS player 😗)

I wonder if part of the reasoning behind drafting him was something of insurance for Stengle - don't think it's unfair to say that Tyson's 2023 season as down on what he showed in 22, and maybe some uncertainty around him re-signing versus exercising his FA rights

A reason for my thinking behind that is he seems to be playing a very similar role in the VFL to what we see from Stengle in the seniors

It would be good to see the coaches switch things up a bit for Mannagh in the VFL, maybe see what he had to offer if playing off the wing to see if he has that versatility to his game to push into the senior team

It's interesting, as Scott has earned the reputation of multi-skilling players.... didn't a betting agency come out not long ago and say they'd changed their algorithm because he'd re-invented the game by doing so?

Yet Mannagh has seemingly been pigeonholed.

That’s where it gets a little strange because Hardie who is seen as an inside mid, spent a good part of the second quarter playing out of the forward line, including starting a few centre bounces from the goal square

I joked at the time, “what did he say to annoy the coach to be shafted to the full forward”, but then being serious posed the question:
- Was Hardie shifted forward to try & add something else to his game, or was it about running other players through the middle & testing different combinations

So it’s a little interesting that we don’t seem to be at least testing the waters of Mannagh in different roles to see what he could offer or bring to the team

Performances equivalent to 3 of those last 4 weeks would result in a very comfortable win here.

I am happy O’Connor is back, he played some good stuff early in the season.

Would have liked Mannagh in.
It's going to do all our heads in when they kick the opening 3 goals and we are chasing them all night for a win....

One small thing about Hardie that we're forgetting (myself included) is that he's currently rookie listed and we can only select him if he's moved onto the main list as a replacement for someone who has been moved onto the long term injury list.

Since we have no-one on the LTI list, that's why Hardie's currently not getting a game.

So it's not necessarily because the coaches don't rate him.

That rule was scrapped years ago, which is why the Cat A rookie list seems a redundant thing now days

Regardless if a player is on the senior list, Cat A rookie or Cat B rookie, they’re openly available for selection each week - Mullin is currently a Cat B rookie

While in past seasons we’ve played Atkins, Blicavs & Close while they spent their max time on the rookie lists

Edit - seems Dempsey was upgaded at the end of last season - but he’s another who got games while a rookie

I’m not even gonna look it up but I can almost guarantee that is not true

Hes quite capable of playing midfield as he has done in the vfl. As has dempsey. Yet we are pigeonholing people as forwards when our MF is poor. We need to broaden our thinking.

That rule no longer exists.

That’s a feelpinion, not logic.

Its not really. Rohan is not playing well enough to pick like an 8th forward when our midfield is depleted. At least mannagh can actually play MF and is in better form. If theres no late changes thats a weirdly balanced side.

I was surprised Dempsey wasn't given a rest which would allow Mannagh in.

I only assume we are desperate for a win as dempsey is due a rest. But still mannagh should be in.

Yes really. Mannagh is not a more logical choice than Rohan. On any measure. You might like to see it tried, hell I might too, but it’s not an obvious logical choice.

Can't get beaten in the midfield if we slowly week by week remove it entirely.

We always heard the calls that Chris Scott doesn't rate ruckmen. It appears he now doesn't rate midfielders either! ;)
