AFL Autopsy RND 12: Loss To The Suns

Lazy play in that final 2 minutes cost us just as much as shoddy umpiring. Laverde works his guts out for the team but has no footy IQ, just a brain fade specialist. More broadly, across the 22, too many fumbles and not enough second efforts when it counted. Disappointing as this was a game we could have easily snagged the 4 points with just a bit more effort and poise.

This is who Bryan is and has always been. He’s a great athlete and his follow up work is very good. He will get quicks hands out and get foot the ball in stoppages. Tap work is probably already afl level. Unfortunately he doesn’t have any presence in the air or really much physicality on the ground. When he isnt in the ruck has to also be off the ground because he has no effect up forward.

I thought he played pretty well, bar that fumble that cost us a goal.

I don’t know whether he is the kind of ruckman Scott likes though, especially considering he basically needs to ruck solo to be effective.
I like byran but is he that great a athlete. 2 disposals in a half, should have been able to work over Moyle but got dominated in 2nd half when suns got on top.

A link up chain ruckman. Bit to work with but fair bit to go

People really expected Bryan to put up his VFL stats just because he was playing another young ruck. Give him some time. He had more disposals in the first half than Draper has had all year. He had more tackles than Draper had all year.
didnt take any contested marks which is pretty vital for a ruck these days. Nobody really took many contested marks for us, though.

Our entries into f50 were awful. At this point, if it's not Caldwell going it in I feel like it's going to defenders advantage.

Not surprised our mids got blasted again considering we have been comprehensively beaten against Richmond and North who are garbage right now. Next week will be a 10+ goal drubbing if we show up how we've showed up the last 3 weeks.
Agree on I50s. Caldwell is a gun and now everyone else is trying to imitate Caldwell bullets.

FFS know your limitations and just kick it where it can be marked. You don’t need to be a hero.

As an aside though. GC are a decent team.

Game really showed where we are at, and to be honest I think we are ahead of where most were expecting.
We didn't make the most of the early dominance. Then GC had the game on their terms for a long time and we were soundly beaten until the last quarter. The defence hung in there and kept us in it.
Team fought back and conjured goals to make a game of it despite the center clearances turning to goals.

Plenty to work on. But in the long run, lots to take away. Such as the importance and center cleanses when the game is in the balance.

he must have lost so much athleticism in a high performance environment.
It is our own version of the Bermuda Triangle where guys supposedly with elite speed end up looking one paced when they come to us. Today guys were saying El-Hawli played well but was just a little above average pace - I thought he was suppose to be express.

If your gonna be racist just call it Ayres Rock
I think I was more ignorant than racist at the age of 16. It was also open to the public back then. There were some fenced off sacred areas though I recall when I walked around the perimeter.

My best friend growing up in my teens was an indigenous boy the same age as me. I’ve been called many things over the years but a racist is not one of them.

We almost won with so many players down on the day. 2MP Tried to draw Andrew away from the backline but he was too good. Have to remember he destroyed Curnow last week. On form, the best chb in the league right now.

Positives:
  • got within a kick late with a non functioning forward line.
  • Pies out of the 8
  • We are still 2nd

I think I was just more referring to using the climbing of Uluṟu as a reference point in 2024.

The climb closed October 2019, that’s quite a long time. Especially since the vote to close it was 2017 (and local indigenous folk were voting to close it since handback in the 80s)

Many Australian’s have climbed it back when ignorance was a cultural norm. It’s just wierd to use it as a brag in 2024.

Andrew was just so good - really an impossible matchup. Then his decision making was impeccable, he stopped goals then set a heap up. Wouldn't even be able to tag him as no one has that size and agility profile. Probably prime pre knee reco Glen Jakovich to see such dominance. Unfortunately our big defender taken just a few picks later can't string 3 maybe even 2 matches together.
