Quite unfathomable that some think there haven't been selection integrity issues with Teague...

First off, he admitted Murphy wasn't 100%, yet still played him as sub v North...

Setters getting a game after missing a month despite the fact his form before injury wasn't exactly great to begin with.

Jack Martin straight in after 8 weeks. Keeps his spot regardless of output.

Gibbo keeping his spot when he was very poor against the Lions.

Casboult ahead of OMac despite Cas clearly being out of form and OMac impressing in his one opportunity. Casboult being selected at all this season really. But hey, we need him for structure! ... Clearly not especially when we won last night despite getting annihilated in hitouts.

You can bet your house that if Eddie didn't get injured Honey wouldn't have debuted last night. Then the same defendants would be reeling off the same crap that Honey isn't ready yet... just like they said Owies wasn't ready the exact week before his selection was announced and when he got his chance, he went on to kick 3 against the Bombers as well as a goal saving tackle on the goal line.... not ready hey? hahahaha

Then Owies supposed to be "managed" gets selected to replace Harry of all people...

I hope this week he actually does "manage" Owies because his output has clearly fallen away...

OUT: TDK, Owies, Murphy
IN: Gov, Fog, Kemp

Same changes in an ideal world.

Given we’ve just had our best win of the season I’d be keeping any changes to a minimum. I hear the arguments for Owies dropping out but neither Samo or Fog truly knocked the door down in the 2s and neither are a true like for like swap with Owies so I’d rather we play players in their best positions. In my view neither nobody else deserves to be dropped nor is there anyone else knocking the door down to come in for a such an important game so if TDK gets up then I think we make no changes.

In the event TDK doesn’t play then I think we make just one change keeping it as close to like for like as possible, which is difficult when the other two ruck options are not available, so I’ll contradict myself by saying we‘ll need to improvise with a makeshift back up ruckman to partner Jack. We are very fortunate we are playing Gold Coast who are without Witts otherwise this would be a massive issue because he's a step up from Marshall and I fear he’d monster us. Even against Zac Smith and Corbett though, it’s impossible to expect Jack to ruck alone. I don’t mind the idea of Cripps providing Jack a chop out, however that could go very badly so I’d prefer to have a solid plan B. I really don’t like the idea of Harry or Charlie rucking, so the only other option is Jones, in which case we‘ll need cover for him down back. It would be a huge risk for either Kemp (on debut) or Parkes (6 games) to cover for Jones as an undersized KPD. The more palatable option is Gov who for all his faults provides some capacity to act as a back up ruck and/or back up KPD.

Its far from ideal but desperate times call for desperate measures! I’m not an overly religious man but I’ll be praying for TDK all this week!

I wonder what the buzzword or phrase will be in 2022? I'm sure that we will have worn out 'selection integrity' by then.

Hopefully the club gets a senior coach in who’s capable at this level and next years phrase is, “where have you been all my life?”.

Hopefully Owies recaptures some form if he remains in the side.

That's why being ready for selection shouldn't be viewed on the back of 1 game or a small sample size

12 goals in 7 games, then only 3 in 6 games

But does add pressure which is always a good sign, or just good for structure

While I agree with some of the commentary re: pressure and tackling, I feel you still need to have some sort of scoreboard impact as a small forward to keep your spot.

Doesn’t need to go at 2 goals per game, but 3 in 6 doesn’t lock you a spot IMO.

But I’m also not a fan of putting midfielders in small forward positions so…

I agree, for me, I have him as an out, push Fisher into his role and bring in SPS

Despite the bullshit claims, no one on this board has stated that selection integrity has been perfect, as all clubs suffer in this area, more the inconsistencies of the player names and types

  • Jones to cover TDK in the ruck and Kemp to take his spot
  • If JSOS doesn't get up for the game, McGovern to take his spot

Creative, and it could work, but I'm loathe to go breaking up that Weitering/Jones partnership down back as I think it's working pretty well. GC aren't massive up forward, but coming off a game against Max King I think Weiters benefits from having an experienced and athletic supporting tall to help manage the other twin. Kemp looks the goods, but he won't have that synergy with Weiters that Jones has developed.

Smith's first game back for GC today, so reckon we'll have a good look at him and see how he's moving. If he's labouring a bit, or just out of touch, we may get away with a JSOS/Gov pairing, and could even roll Harry through a small number of centre bounces to mix it up. Would still have Charlie/Gov/JSOS up forward, so our structure wouldn't be shafted.

SPS and Fog were both good yesterday but they should get another week in the twos to back it up and prove it wasn’t an aberration.

Plow will not get dropped but fmd, he, Newnes and Newman are our award-winners in”players who inexplicably turn it over and / or do dumb $hit” category. Special mention goes to Jones but as FB those knocks to his game are outweighed by his positive outputs.

TDK looked in a fair bit of discomfort and looks to be a certain out. GC will have seen JSOS’ body of work and no doubt should (if they are serious) put some time in to negating his influence.

For me, TDK out and the Club can choose to bring in a probably partially not ready tall in McGovern (who probably, given his injury history, will injure himself if put in the ruck to give a chop out for JSOS) or find a temporary fill-in second ruck amongst the existing line up - maybe Newman?

Depending on injuries, I reckon if fit Day will come into their team so they’ll run with a tallish forward line and aim to stretch us with height.

Choose any one (or two, if Teague drops someone) of Kemp, Ramsay or Parks for mine.

I did say before game 297 that Murphy will be sub for two games and then run out for his final two games. I think he genuinely has half a game’s fitness in him so keep him as sub again this week, rest him the following week against Port in SA and then he can play game 300 against GWS in Vic (pending any COVID related adjustments)

Kemp does not deserve a run. Make him really work for it and bust on to the scene in 2022
Give the boy a taste so he can see what he is working towards in the offseason, especially if we fall out of the finals race. Can't believe we are still in it tbh.

I hope we don't make GSOS to toil.on his own in the ruck. Any coach worth a pinch will game plan to take advantage with a week to do their homework. Not sure who is the best option to support though. Brittle Mitch? Jones and break up to backline cohesion? Give H some time so Charlie can get some space at times? Conundrums?
Other 5han that, I don't want any changes. Fold Coast has a serious lack of confidence at the moment and we need to punish that early and often. Bring the heat from last week and the result will take care of itself.
