Hopefully Owies recaptures some form if he remains in the side.

That's why being ready for selection shouldn't be viewed on the back of 1 game or a small sample size

12 goals in 7 games, then only 3 in 6 games

But does add pressure which is always a good sign, or just good for structure

I think he just needs a break.
He's played a lot of games for his first proper senior season, and was meant to be out managed a couple of weeks ago, but ended up playing when H was out.

Sub is always Murphy.

Murphy will be named in the 22 for his 300th IMO. It would be publicly humiliating if we didn't.

They might even name him in the squad proper for 299 so it's not so blatant that we are gifting him games.

Personally, I would have preferred to end on 293 than it be obvious my team was reluctantly carrying me to 300.

Thinking Gov for TDK and possibly SPS, Fogarty or Kemp for Owies who needs a rest. If one of those three comes in for Matt there might have to be some adjustments, other players moving further forward up the ground, def>mid/wing or mid>fwd

TDK won’t play. Owies has hit a flat spot so goes out.
We will pick someone else who can assist in the ruck, so Gov comes in to the 22 with Murph.

Fog or SPS as sub (or Kemp if they select a tall side).
I’d take Owies over Murphy any day of the week at the moment. If Owies has a quiet game against the Suns he can come out for Betts when we play Port.

Kemp does not deserve a run. Make him really work for it and bust on to the scene in 2022
Kemp has worked hard to come back from 2 long term injuries and has been pretty good in his VFL time, even having to play KPD.
He absolutely deserves a debut this year.
I'm not sure what you think he's been doing the past couple of years.

For me it’s more about the tackling pressure Owies brings. No coincidence our best team performance of the year was also our best tackling game of the year. Owies had 4 tackles so he played his role. I don’t think you get that if we shift the magnets around to bring in Samo and play Fisher in that role.

I agree, but of his 6 disposals he had 3 clangers and a turnover, along with 6 disposals the week before and only 1 goal in the last 5 games

His pressure has been good though

In: Kemp, Carroll

Out: Murphy, Newnes.

Best moves I can think of to improve on last nights 22, which IMO was the best 22 the club have fielded this year.

Edit in case - In: McGov, Out: TDK

FB: Plowman - Jones - Stocker
HB: Saad - Weitering - Newman

C: O’Brien - Cripps - Walsh
OB: Silvagni - Kennedy - Dow

HF: Fisher - McGovern - Martin
FF: CCurnow - McKay - Honey

Interchange
Kemp (D)
SPS (OB)
Williamson (W)
ECurnow (F)

Sub
Murphy (dragging him to 300 aha)

De Koning (inj) for McGovern
Owies (rest) for SPS
Newnes (omit) for Kemp

I’d go
TDK to Gov
Owies to SPS
Plow to Kemp. It’s time.

First 2 make sense, but not Gov in the ruck. Plow won't be dropped, but Kemp would be well ahead of Murphy

Owies needs to come out, 1 goal in 5 weeks from a small forward is well below output

Out: TDK (inj)
In: Kemp
Kemp to play intercepting KPD, Jones to play #1 ruck.
Maybe Willow for Gov also.

Creative, and it could work, but I'm loathe to go breaking up that Weitering/Jones partnership down back as I think it's working pretty well. GC aren't massive up forward, but coming off a game against Max King I think Weiters benefits from having an experienced and athletic supporting tall to help manage the other twin. Kemp looks the goods, but he won't have that synergy with Weiters that Jones has developed.

Smith's first game back for GC today, so reckon we'll have a good look at him and see how he's moving. If he's labouring a bit, or just out of touch, we may get away with a JSOS/Gov pairing, and could even roll Harry through a small number of centre bounces to mix it up. Would still have Charlie/Gov/JSOS up forward, so our structure wouldn't be shafted.
The way teague referenced having to play plowman reluctantly as third tall I would not be surprised if this week or definitely against port we out Newman or Williamson to bring kemp in as the third tall let plowman go back to what he does on the small forwards ..

Out:
DeKoning (Inj),

In:

HFHoneySilvagniMartin
FFOwiesMcKayCurnow
FOLJonesCrippsDow

SUBMurphy

  • Jones to cover TDK in the ruck and Kemp to take his spot
  • If JSOS doesn't get up for the game, McGovern to take his spot

Why a doubt on sos?

Given we’ve just had our best win of the season I’d be keeping any changes to a minimum. I hear the arguments for Owies dropping out but neither Samo or Fog truly knocked the door down in the 2s and neither are a true like for like swap with Owies so I’d rather we play players in their best positions. In my view neither nobody else deserves to be dropped nor is there anyone else knocking the door down to come in for a such an important game so if TDK gets up then I think we make no changes.

In the event TDK doesn’t play then I think we make just one change keeping it as close to like for like as possible, which is difficult when the other two ruck options are not available, so I’ll contradict myself by saying we‘ll need to improvise with a makeshift back up ruckman to partner Jack. We are very fortunate we are playing Gold Coast who are without Witts otherwise this would be a massive issue because he's a step up from Marshall and I fear he’d monster us. Even against Zac Smith and Corbett though, it’s impossible to expect Jack to ruck alone. I don’t mind the idea of Cripps providing Jack a chop out, however that could go very badly so I’d prefer to have a solid plan B. I really don’t like the idea of Harry or Charlie rucking, so the only other option is Jones, in which case we‘ll need cover for him down back. It would be a huge risk for either Kemp (on debut) or Parkes (6 games) to cover for Jones as an undersized KPD. The more palatable option is Gov who for all his faults provides some capacity to act as a back up ruck and/or back up KPD.

Its far from ideal but desperate times call for desperate measures! I’m not an overly religious man but I’ll be praying for TDK all this week!
Gov to come in and play back ,Jones in the ruck if TDK diesnt get up..

What Gold Coast are serving up right now is absolutely putrid, if we cannot beat them ... well

Gold Coasts capitulation also makes it more likely the AFL looks to Clarkson to replace Dew

Meanwhile it’s a relief that Melbourne is back in some form as we need them to defeat West Coast next weekend...
