Absolutely love the development in Setterfield and Kennedy. Both have improved out of sight.

Setterfield is becoming a lot more active in games, but the thing that stands out is his composure. This is what he showed in his draft year.

Kennedy has always been a natural footballer, but needed to improve his running capacity. He's done that and the results are obvious for everyone to see.

On the team, I felt our defense was exposed on a number of occasions today. Need to tidy this up. I also don't see SPS as a half back. If he's not providing genuine run and carry, what's the point. Put him in the middle.

Go Blues.
Couldnt agree any more
It's a carryover experiment from the Bolton era.
It's not working, change it up please coaching team

Few observations.
Martin..once again fluffed an easy shot when pressure really on..like v melb and last week. Needs to be better..alot better

Wtf plowman and setters...Why did it take Bolts then Teague so long to realise plow must be the start of the defence and not the end..
And so long to realise we got setters to play inside mid and not a wing
All coaches even greats dont get everything right..but seriously how did it takes weeks and weeks to figure out
At least Teague has responded early and moved the chess pieces. Love his capacity to be versatile but will never win them all. No one will.

If you think people on this board regularly defend Murph, you don’t do much reading.

He’s constantly chastised and berated, and even blamed for a whole decade of poor performances on a few occasions.

Murph was actually emblematic of the team today. Very strong early helping us build the lead. Then seemed to lose a bit of physicality and touch as the game went on.

I’ll still back him every day of the week. Absolutely deserves to be the 5th blue in the 300 club for mine and despite being so “horrific” for us today was still our leading possession getter with 10 contested and going at 70%.

If murph is our worst we’re comfortably among the best in the comp

Again the main defence is he is Marc Murphy. Also love the rounding up of his disposal efficiency. Cute.

Willow's clangers are becoming a bad trend.
We have Nic Newman coming back next year. If Nic finds the form he had last year he will walk into our defense and we can put Willow on the wing where he can take the game on but his clangers won't be so damaging.

6 tackles in 7 games
It's not good enough from a running defender. Needs to lift

Are you purely basing your assertion on tackle numbers?

Willo was poor today but his pressure is typically a highlight of his. Tackling numbers can be misleading. He passes the eye test in defensive pressure.

Callum Moore played what I'm sure is the worst game ive ever seen in Navy Blue, and I'm 30 years old.
We were -1 from the start, and -2 quickly with Gov. Our forward structure was an abomination but twice this year we've seen the importance of what Harry McKay means to the way we play. Hopefully he's back next week.
What is Teague's aversion to playing Cripps in the forward line to break a tag? Seems to always take too long to make this decision, if its made at all
Positively Setterfield and Kennedy played great games and aree really stamping their claims.
Happy to get the W, but there's a lot of lessons to learn for the group today. Probably the worst we've played for the year.

AGREE: Memo to DT...put Crippa in the square for 2-3 minute burst a couple of times a qtr. Has the height of a KPF, will have his tagger cacking his dacks and MOST IMPORTANTLY, that **** pathetic umpiring non-decision when he was tackled by two players without the ball WILL NOT be allowed to happen in front of goal. The umps will be scared to not pay the free as the spotlight will be on them to ensure they see it!!
Also...if Doc is being tagged, give him a spell in the middle and allow Gov to play the sweeper role

For mine, our biggest concern is when teams target our captains. I want to see us having plans A, B and C to combat it

Sounds like you're looking to hide him. Not sure that works.

No mention of the fact he got more of the footy than ANYONE else on the team? Or that just shy of half of them were contested?

If they’re the numbers of a squib who shouldn’t get picked, our reserves must be the Harlam Globetrotters. And yet guess who was in our absolute best almost every week in the reserves? Moore.

If anyone was beating the door down for selection you **might** have a point. But they aren’t, so you don’t.

Hows that for “cute”?

7 tackles in 6 games. Just the one game without a tackle, which was today.

We all view things differently, but I can't remember at any stage through a game thinking that Williamson is hurting us through a lack of tackling. I do think though we're often guilty of looking at the stats to retrospectively find faults in performance.

Absolutely we need more from him, I commented earlier today that he's not thinking things through as well as he needs to, but at this stage I'm just glad to see him stringing some games together.

And Martin is a very good set shot, just some aberrations past 2 weeks, has kicked some clutch goals this year!

Martin is a selfish footballer. Needs to get it out of his game. Goes for speccies and spoils team mates. Last week he went for the 45m kick (lucky he kicked it) when MMCG was on his own 25-30m out

Getting the ball and ****ing hacking it forward is useful is it?

22 possessions for 1 score involvment as an outside mid with X factor apparently. Must have had all his kicks off half back????

Not to mention he is getting the ball on the outside as he is meant to be a good user and just isn't.

Also 0 defensively again!!!

We will go far with more of that. Sign him up for another 5 years.

Willow? No, more release him. He has been taking the game on and getting caught. His agression is one of his best attributes but getting caught in the backline can not only cost us a goal, but he ill have to change the way he plays to stop getting caught holding the ball or risk getting dropped. On the wing he can play his natural game, continue to develop his craft and little mistakes in development don't end up as a goal against us.

So pre-game Teague mentions we are struggling with our defensive structure, the back line seems solid I.e weiterbot, plow and Jones. So is it our run and supply off HB? Obvs the doctor is out of form, Simmo is solid. So is it SPS? I feel he is either being chronically underused or just can’t play the run off half back role they envisioned for him. He is a classy user or the ball, picks up clean good kick, albeit 20 meters or less. Given our propensity to bomb it into the forward line, wouldn’t SPS be better suited to supplying the inside forward entries rather than to supply the mids. Can someone with a better footy brain than mine help me out here?

There were times when Plow was on the goal line and Setters on the wing and we were playing 2 short. Never let this happen again. I disagree with You. Teague tries to back his boys 100%..not a bad thing. But when it clearly isnt working change. Weiters last week. Changed things when we were 6 goals behind Melbourne. Didnt move Doc v Saints until we were miles behind. Hes done a good job..and he will get better as he goes on and has these guys for longer. But like the team hes a work in progress

My comment was actually in relation to us having the second worst frees for/against differential in the comp, not our playing list.

Right you are. I thought it was something to do with my Callum Moore post. My cognitive abilities are slipping a lot these days.

No he hasnt. He missed 2day when a goal finishes it off. Missed last week. Missed a sitter v melb which would have out us a goal in front. Thats 3 sitters at crucial times..and 2 of them in games we lost

So just to clarify, your argument is that you don’t like Murph, but not only do you ignore stats that show his game wasn’t what you thought, but also fail to provide any alternatives?

That’s what’s cute. Murph has game winning moments in him. You only have to look as far as the Essendon game to see him directly influence the result in our favour.

We won, Murph played his part. End of story. Your patronising tone doesn’t make your argument any more effective

A great day to be a Blues fan today, a day where we didn't play very well, a game that we were rudderless up forward and a game where we got the job done.

There was a stat for the 3rd quarter which i think summed up our performance, 16 inside 50s for 1 goal vs 9 inside 50s for 3 goals, our forward 50 entries were very very bad, from a lot of players, we dominated long periods of the game but it was like we were in quicksand, we just went no where.

Like most games, we can sit back and have a deep look at the positives and negatives and hopefully build on them going forward. The steady improvement of Setterfield, he is slowly building his game, getting around the 20 touches per game and gets his hands dirty.

Kennedy putting last weeks disappointing game behind him, getting his hands on the ball and kicking two goals, what i am liking with Kennedy most, is he is presenting as a target and is taking marks, he isn't solely relying on getting a kick at the stoppage.

Jack Martin and SPS were good today, both have good disposal and generally make good decisions, Jack didn't kick well for goal which was the only negative about his game.

I will give a shout out to Cunners who i am critical of most weeks, took his opportunities and kicked 2 really good goals, i have never had an issue with Cunners skills but i think he is under utilised in the role he is playing. Get him to where the ball is, more often.

On the Moore situation, there is no doubt that he was well out of his league today and it would be fair to say in AFL in general, but i am more than happy with his inclusion. Every week for the past month, he has been in the best players in the scratch matches, he has one man to beat and thats TDK, if he is performing better, then you pick him, tell TDK to pull his finger out and beat his completion. In saying that, Moore shouldn't be in the team next week.

I am struggling to be excited about Murphy and his re signing soon, on one hand he is a good player, has had a really good career, brings a lot to the team and has won many games for us, on the other, when the pressure is on and the going is tough, he is totally absent, he doesn't tackle, provides no pressure, can't spoil and is easily beat to contested ball. As i expect to be in or challenge for finals this year and be in the thick of finals next year, i see him as somewhat of a liability. Does he provide more than Fisher or someone else?

At the end of the day, we got the job done, we are 4 and 4 and have a good chance of wining 2 out of the next 3, a good spot to be in.

Go Blues.

The more i reflect on the game the happier I am with the result

It’s in the book peeps and it keeps us in touch with the teams competing for the 8

Good teams grind victories. However I do have some concerns

Murphy’s defensive work as a wingman is a worry. He is not capable of completing the role and I’m struggling to find a spot for him in our 22

Cripps has been down although he did have a few moments today. Playing hurt ? Maybe but the angrier he got the more he took his eye of the ball.

Jack Martin has been a great pick up but he’s been a little slack with some efforts and poor at the set shot. He’s good enough to sort it out

SPS I love him but he’s lazy. Needs to pull finger out and keep it out

Teams are starting to work out our play on at all cost game plan by running with the receiver, need to be aware of when to go and when to hold.

Okay now the good

Setters: molto goodo. Clean and calm with the ball. Growing nicely

Kennedy: great way to put last weeks effort to bed

Pitto, Plow, simmo, and Walshy all bloody good today

The Melbourne one was very gettable but not a 'sitter'. Those are like 20m directly in front types. Eddie and cripps missed easier ones.

Martin did kick a clutch goal in the final quarter vs essendon when we were 2 goals down.

But his set shots is something to work on.

Sorry PB but can’t help. I’ll back Teague with his record thus far.
