delisted afl players nominating for PSD/Rookie draft
----------------------------------------------------
Jarrod Atkinson (Essendon)
Rhys O'Keefe (Carlton)
Tyson Slattery (Essendon)
Josh Smith (North Melbourne)
Hey guys, posted this on the Drafts & Tradings board, think it may help a few people out with rookie predicitions, any ways, the list of players who are available for the PSD/Rookie drafts are:
-----------------
medium midfielders
------------------
scott hancock, 182cm, 78kg, 11.5.1992 (WA)
archie longbottom, 182cm, 80kg, 19y.o (SA)
Hey snoop, you could also consider young Kyle Hartigan a chance I would say.
Started off in the reserves for Werribee, then moved up to the seniors and had a terrific year for a 19 y.o kid. Played against Matt Little and lept him goalless in what was arguably his best game for the year in a surprise upset win against the highly fancied Williamstown outfit.
Could Ash Hansen be a chance for a mature age rookie selection?
The VFL team deson't have any tall KPP that can kick goals and he would also be a handy back up for Dawes and Cloke
Any players in particular? I think Michael Hibberd wouldnt be a bad pickup but really best available would be our option
I think Hibbard would be a brilliant pickup but not entirely certain that he will be available and GWS might just be onto him along with Sewell.
On Sewell, I think you may be right, after all he has now been passed up as a mature aged player in 2 national drafts and one rookie draft, although this time around I think one club will pick him up, even if GWS don't.
As far as having too many half backs go, when choosing rookies, you are thinking of what your team will look like in 2-3 years time, and eve further "down the track", so we might actually consider half backs even though our current stocks look like they are "overflowing".
It will be interesting to see the way the pies go, I'd like to see them pick up some height, and even some "project" types, especially after we went so small and developed (ready to play almost) during the ND.
December the 7th isn't it? (Both the PSD and Rookie Draft).
Yeah, fair point about the "down the track" comment
One thing with Michael is, why do they play him down back? I watched him in a half last year turn a game on it's head when he was switched to a wing, and his second half was nearly the match winner.
He is good offensively whilst still having a defensive mindset, he is extremely good overhead for someone his size and his leg speed is a lot quicker than what may appear. I feel his tank has certainly improved which may be a result of taking up an 'alcohol ban' for himself, since he certainly wants this chance at an AFL career.
So he certainly has all the attributes of being a very good link man off a wing perhaps, whilst still being a back flank option for further down the track.
I think we only have 2 picks so I would probably consider talls (assuming they just dont draft in a few talls on the VFL list).
I would consider (in order);
Chris Luff - Living proof recruiters dont always get it right. Didnt get taken in any draft last year which surprised many bc (for those that dont remember) he is a taller version of Litherland. Is maybe a bit one dimensional but had a terrific year in the WAFL playing FB and for a club that wants someone like a Scott Thompson (North) he is your man.
Ben Brown - Agree with all on this kid but remember he has been super hyped up on BF off the back of one Champ game vs NT or QLD. Dont get me wrong wouldnt be upset to see him go but just remember Billy Morrison and Danny Roach fellow posters!
Brayden Grenfell - another who hyped up on BF through the year (incl me after a couple of his later games) but didnt get taken. He is raw and hasnt played a heap of footy but presents a bit like Kosi in potential. Can play Ruck or CHF or CHB so pretty attractive. TEsting was only average and suspect that held him back a bit.
Josh Walker - impressive all year without really dominating and interesting to read his coaches acknowledge the weak points in his game have been eradicated.....kicking. Can take a grab, is courageous and a decent shot on goal. I think he may end up back rather than fwd though.
Tom Gordon - Probably not as big a fan as others but I wll agree with the fact he is an elite kick and could potentially play Fwd or Back at senior level
Just on Hibberd
Yes he would have an instant impact on any senior AFL team, at 20 years of age he was dominating games from a half back flank. Something you guys really do not need. He is a blend of Harry O'Brien, Heath Shaw and Nick Maxwell in one, so like I said, definitely something to work with but unfortunately I do not think you guys need more back flankers.
Also, I was ready to post a new thread about Myles Sewel and how over rated he actually is. He gets a lot of ball, but he is not damaging with his possessions, he is very unassuming, and I think he may be the first highly acclaimed mature aged players to potentially fail.
I hope not, but just get a feeling the jump to inside midfielder at AFL level will be far to great for his light 77kg frame to handle compared to his light 77kg frame against VFL bodies and young AFL kids.
Gotta say, I'd be a bit concerned at adding a mythical character to our list, especially one with the power of freezing.Jack Frost - Kid doesnt get a lot of attention but shows a heap of ability and put in some good TAC games this year. Runs a 2.9s 20m, good vertical leap ,13-14 beep and agility v good. I think Foj1 and I are the only two that rate him.
You have to take into account how cool under pressure he is... It's like he's got icewater in his veins.Gotta say, I'd be a bit concerned at adding a mythical character to our list, especially one with the power of freezing.
