I heard that. The statement suggested we already had the pick. Must admit I initially thought he got the numbers wrong. Maybe we’ve already done a deal or closing in on a deal.
All I keep thinking is that next years first (unless it is a top 3 pick)

Wont be more valuable then it is today.

Everyone has us falling by virtue of others improving.

If there is a kid we want and have identified. Make a move - be aggressive

This is probably the best interview of the lot.

Really honest.

I love the fact that he has said multiple times that both club and himself challenged each other across all different facets.

That’s healthy. That’s top level behaviour. That’s how you get better.

I also love how he owns the development. His program. Yes he wants quality people involved (that’s on the club) but he owns what happens and he is here for the foreseeable future.

I love it.
And Tom doing his lawns!

Agree 100% look at what the Dees did in the draft year with Jackson & Kosi. Aggressive, backed themselves & helped to get a flag. I’m down.

LOL. Also a bit about putting his coaching philosophy down on paper (that he later presented to the Saints board) just after he turned down the Bombers job/process. The timing is a bit suspicious…
In the presser I thought he ****ed up when talking about Walsh.

Pretty much said his appointment was pivotal in him taking the job. (One of his 4 pillars)

But Walsh was appointed an entire month before Ratten was sacked.

So this timeline only points to speaking way before Ratten even knew the axe was over his head.

There may have been a third party that sounded him out...and got him working on things. He did say that he didn't actually sign off until yesterday morning and that they were still working things out on Sunday.

I still feel for Ratts and I guess the payers may well still be a bit shell shocked by it, there would be quite a few that were close to him, but going forward, can't help but feel this is the right decision by the Club...(I have everything crossed!).

Not at all. Ross was just stating that if Walsh was not there, or someone like him, then he would not have come back on board.

My take on Ross is that he is only coming back as he believes that he can make us a powerful team again, but that he knows that he can only do it with the right support.

So Ross is not coming back just for a job as a Head Coach, he is coming back on board to be a successful coach.

You look at the recent premiership teams and they all have very good equivalents to Walsh.

I don’t disagree.

But in Rattens sacking presser.

Bassat said they had the review for an entire month prior.

In yesterdays presser. They said there was only one man they truly wanted and went after in Ross.

So they effectively knew they wanted a new coach a month earlier around the time Walsh was appointed and they specifically only wanted a single coach who specifically needed someone of Walsh’s quality.

That’s the coincidence.

Interesting how he said he doesn’t focus on clangers or turnovers, but bring your effort.

Owens and Windhager licking their lips.

Steele, Crouch, King, Mckenzie, Marshall, Wilkie, Battlle and Hayes to excel.
I’d be keen to see what he does with Bytel. Who has all the makings of the in and under mids who tackle and win first possession by hand.

Maybe Dunstan will want back in.

Looking forward to the players roles being simplified. I think Billings will improve on the back of some clear Ross messaging. Don’t overthink it, this is your role, nothing more.

Final chance.

But I think there are a few in that group.

Clark Billings Hill
Those three I see as big improvers under a Ross system.

From the outside, our midfield has looked incredibly confused, like they’re trying to do too much. Ross will give them clear instructions.

Steele, Crouch win the ball.
Gresh, Billings, Clark first receiver.
Give to Hill, Sinclair.

I like the clip on classified that was posted on here the other day. Ross said gut running is as brave an act as putting your head in the hole. He was referring to Hill.

Not sure what more you need but Lyon, Lethlean and Bassat have all categorically denied that anyone had spoken to Lyon prior to he decision to sack Ratten was made by the board.

In fact Walsh himself has said he had been in discussions with Ratten about plans for next year during the week leading up to the Board meeting.

Didn't need to be rocket scientist to figure out he was interested in coming back to coaching because of his previous interest in Carlton and the clear interest in Essendon.
