Ross Lyon - what a coach

Fremantle were dead on their feet, Pavlich looked cooked. They were a McPharlin away from actually winning it and Walker was the only difference.

The fact that the Dockers were only ten points adrift at the end is worrying for Adelaide next week.

Harvey would have lost the EF.

And they missed Sandilands and Fyfe for a good portion of the year.

And Lyon's leaving Pavlich forward, which has been a big part of the deal.

Whatever, we've definitely got enough young talent coming through.

Provided he plays them.

He appears to like to settle a side with minimal changes of the journey.

Not convinced he'll change on his '4 years apprenticeship' mantra, but it will be good for Freo if he does.

good coach but people have seriously overrated his year.
Fremantle could barely field a team for the last half of last year. their list is good so improvement was inevitable.
i dont think Harvey would have done much worse, if any.

Didn't they have to ask special permission of the AFL to play more rookies that allowed or something?

Media seems to have forgotten Freo were in the finals recently, they just kept asking Pav if he was imparting his finals wisdom, and he kept replying that the majority of them have played finals.

Fremantle were dragged out of position by Adelaides short game, lots of uncontested short spot up kicks.

Thought it was an excellent effort by Sanderson to address this at half time, Fremantle were good and Lyon has done well, but he was out thought tonight.
No, you guys aren't seeing it clearly. That Freo team was buggered by half time. Spent. Agreed, there might have been more Lyon could have done on gameday but to state he was "outcoached" is oversimplifying the situation.
Can't blame the umps, can't blame the coach. We just didn't have enough left in us to win last night. Adelaide did, and we lost.

And as for those moaning about Lyon's not using young talent - early in the season we did, fairly often. But you might want to check our injury lists, and when they went down - those young players weren't available for half the season anyway.
We'll see them next year. Count on it.

Not really, had close to a full list this year, Harvey would have had similar output imo.

Morabito, Fyfe, Sandilands...

They played about 13 minutes of good football and only lost by 10 points. In a final. That would tend to indicate they'll be pretty good.

Asuming you were addressing me, WCE4, I was speaking in response to those saying Lyon wasn't playing our young players... I was not saying we had an injury problem.
Basically, if you go and have a look at the players we did have out, they were mostly all those very same young players Ross was being accused of not developing.
Crozier. Morabito. Michie. Mellington. Forster. All out for the season.
Think about it - you can't blame Lyon for not playing the youngsters this year if we don't have many left on their feet :)

solid popint well made - didn't reset the forward line to accomodate a lame (literally) Pav last night. Cost them the game.

I always thought they were good, last year they were down and out with a ridiculous amount of key personnel injured, Harvey could have done as good a job as Lyon this year.

Without Ross Lyon, Crowley wouldn't be playing AFL anymore & Dangerfield would have torn the game apart.

Crowley is a seriously good stopper now that he has Ross Lyon in his corner. That is what makes Ross a great coach. He works out who will play for him from the start of instilling his game plan to the group. He knows straight away from the extra effort certain players put in to get themselves fit enough to carry out their role in the gameplan. Those that don't carry it out are written off early in the piece. Refer to Jack Anthony!

He gives them at least a few chances but then they are cooked!

I agree that they were always going to be good, but they were much more flaky under Harvey. He wouldn't have got the win at the 'G, no way no how. And they wouldn't have pulled apart NM in that way, either.

Crowley was a seriously good tagger prior to Lyon joining the club - it's not as though Ross has discovered something that we didn't know about him.

He had a poor 2011 for a multitude of reasons, one being he was assigned a different role in 2011

Thanks to poor coaching.

yeah it was, but simply returning Crowley to a role he performed successfully under Harvey is hardly a masterstroke.

The improvement in Johnson, the emergence of Pearce and Walters would be a feather in Ross's cap - but I can't accept that Ross is a gun because he has got Crowley tagging well.

The guy had a poor year

He fell out of favour with Harvey last year.
That's more the point I'm trying to make.

People talking about matchups (like Walker/Silvagni) are kidding themselves. Killed in the midfield from somewhere after quarter time. Getting the ball doesn't matter as much if you're shanking it every time.

That's false, you won the clearances 36 to 29 and you won the contested possession count.

Where you fell over was away from the clearance, Sanderson clearly asked his players to fan out more, spot up the short targets and pull the Freo press apart, it worked.

Adelaide smashed Freo in uncontested possessions and marks.

Fair sign that Freo wanted to sag off.

Harvey would've out-coached himself all on his own given a full list to work with. He would've come up with some master plan like Sandilands as the loose man at HBF, Crowley at FF, Pav in the midfield, Mayne as a tagger and Ballantyne in the ruck.

Amazing to think that Adelaide had more run than us, almost like they were fresher or something

There was nothing lazy about our performance last night but I'm responding to a troll so not sure why I'm even bothering.

You're a little dense aren't you?
