Round 1 2010 vs Carlton - A New Era Begins(No Trolling)

Remove this Banner Ad

After a long hot summer we finally arrive at round 1. It will be interesting to see how we go in Hardwicks first real match in charge. The most exciting part is we're taking 4 new faces into the match which to me signals a new era. Hopefully the kids don't get overwhelmed playing in front of 75000 and put in a good showing.

Team:
B: Shane Edwards Kel Moore Chris Newman
HB: Mitch Farmer Luke McGuane Will Thursfield
C: Dustin Martin Brett Deledio Ben Nason
HF: Tom Hislop Jack Riewoldt Richard Tambling
F: Relton Roberts Mitch Morton Robin Nahas
Foll: Troy Simmonds Daniel Jackson Trent Cotchin
Int: Ty Vickery Ben Cousins Daniel Connors, Adam Thomson
Emg: Dean Polo Graham Polak Matthew White

if they do then they do and they learn what its like in the big time and in front of big crowds. Nothing wrong with them being overwhelmed on day one of their careers. It will make them hungry to play in front of big crowds and by the time we are ready to mix it in September the crowd wont worry them. One thing is for sure there are newbies that get overwhelmed and there are newbies that feast on the buzz and immediately announce their arrival to the footy world ....lets see who fits the latter. ;)

Shouldn't there be no trolling on any of the Richmond threads?
Like last year, there will be threads for opposition supporters to come in and troll, would prefer to do that than have them taking other threads off topic.

Who is going to kick our goals tomorrow night? I think Morton is our man...Polak also may suprise a few as Riewoldt will get the main attention...

Riewoldt will kick a bag. We've got a star in young Jack.

I heard Carltank's assistant coach say that they're going to use the element of surprise on us. Not even they know where their goals are going to come from! :D

and when thats the case they turn to the one and only, Setanta O'helpless and hope and pray.........again. ;)

Yes, but somehow the mods like to accept and welcome trolling. Only team board on BF I've seen it allowed.
There is nothing wrong with a bit of banter between us and opposition supporters as IMO it adds to the build up for the game. As long as its done with respect to the board rules then there is no problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if Polak wasn't named. On the article on the afl site shows Dimma saying he is looking to Tom Hislop, Adam Thomson and Jacko for improvement. So would suggest all 3 are playing the latter no surprise but the front 2 may frustrate many here.

I am very happy with Tom Hislop playing and have no qualms with Thomson getting the gig over Tuck even though I see Tuck as a better player I am happy to follow Dimmas vision and I agree that Tucks no look kicks to space are getting a bit old.

Agree, looks like he's put on a bit of size over the off season, and should dominate with Polak and Morton both taking quality defenders. Think Roberts and Lids to kick a few between them as well...

Can't friggin wait! Will be a spanking night for footy, and the atmosphere will be electric after the big fellah does his lap

Got to admit i'm a bit nervous, so I can only imagine how Hardwick and the new boys are feeling, there's gonna be some early fire in the game, so let's hope Hislop can keep his cool. I'd love to see Martin kick a goal or 2, can't remember if he's kicked 1 yet in the pre-season??

I like the look of Roberts and Nason kicking the pill inside 50 with their footskills. Will Nason play forward?

I'm also curious to see how Hardwick deals with the players that turn the ball over, I personally hope he drags them.

Excited/Realistic/Excited/Go Tiges!!:)

I'm with you 2007... for me it's pretty much a 50/50 game, so on the night I will hope and expect to win. But in hindsight, regardless of the result, I will also be more realistic and understand what this year is all about. Even if we do win, as fulfilling as it will be, it will only be against Carltank.

I wonder if Nason will be used as part of midlfield rotations, or as you say, maybe rotating through a HFF. I am really surprised he has been picked so early in the season, I hadn't given him that much credit to this point. But good luck to the boy, he has obviously earned his spot.

I think Roberts is a bit of a roll of the dice. If we can get on top, I see him as the type of player that can provide the icing on the cake. But when the game is in the balance, I am not sure he'll be having a major impact, unless he can really nail some heavy tackles.

Fact is, apart from Martin, we've really only changed the fringes as far as personnel is concerned. So we're more or less looking to see some gradual improvement in the more 'senior' personnel, as to their approach, in particularly from a defensive point of view.

Agree with dragging the turnover kings, but obviously give the nervous kids some leeway early doors.

I want a big game from Newman in this regard, he has to be the one that sustains the Hardwick game plan, relentless... and those other adjectives.

I want to see Newman play like he did in the first half v Essendon. If he played like that on a regular basis, he'd be elite.

Interesting that you guys are starting with the 3 rookies on the field....
I expected Martin to start (he will be a star) but not the others.
