I don't disagree (with the need to find a speedy small defender) but I actually reckon it works quite well with Patfull playing on a small. He is mostly breaking even when the ball hits the deck and his ability to play tall really adds a different dimension to our backline.

Early in the year, I thought that we were leaking too many goals to midfielders resting/pushing forward but I reckon Harwood has done a pretty good job in nullifying that type of player. It also has something to do with the fact that our midfield is tracking back defensively a whole lot better than it did during the first half of the year.

FB: Patfull Goose Gardiner
HB: Adcock Clarke Rich
C: Hanley Aish Zorko
HF: Mayes Close McStay
FF: Green LBerger Merrett
Fol: Martin Rockcliff Redden
Inter: Beams, Crisp, Paperone
Sub: Golby

Here I go again...

FB: Patfull Merrett Gardiner
HB: Adcock Clarke Rich
C: Hanley Aish Zorko
HF: Mayes Close McStay
FF: Green Lbeger Taylor
Fol: Martin Redden Rockcliff

Inter: Crisp, Paperone, Beams
Sub: Golby

Regular appearances:

Maguire - will be in our best but I'm worried his body won't hold together. I've only ommitted him for this reason. Merrett back to defence.

Robbo - Depending on his pre-season he may be starting 22. He will definitely play alot.

Lester - Will play games but will still struggle to get games with youngesters coming through. Good depth player.

Freeman - Will play 10 - 15 games as injuries occur.

Cutler - I have a feeling he'll be in our 22 by seasons end. I think he's had an awesome debut. Lets hope these injuries heal quick. He'll play 10 games

When you look at the list above its hard to imagine Staker and Maguane playing anything more than a pinch hitter/relief players.

B: Adcock Merrett Patfull
HB: Gardiner Clarke Paparone
C: Redden Rockliff Rich
HF: Mayes Close Taylor
FF: Green Leuenberger Freeman
Ruck: Martin Hanley Zorko
Bench: McStay, Aish, Beams, Crisp
Emg: Harwood, Lester, O'Brien

By the next year we should surely have one of the most tall teams going around with a sprinkling of mozzies. Our HBF/HFF will all be over 190cms and most of them should be able to rotate through the guts. Paps, McStay, Cutler, Lester, Robbo, Staker, McGuane, Crisp with Dawson, and Mayes high 180s. Ofcourse if they all stay fit that is.

You'd almost think our recently departed list manager has a penchant for "running height"

Presuming everyone is fit

B: Gardiner Maguire Patfull
HB: Adcock Clarke Hanley
C: Rich Redden Aish
Hf: Taylor Close Zorko
FF: Green Merrett Staker
R: Martin Rockliff D.Beams
I: Luenberger Mayes Mcstay C.Beams

Would possibly swap Freeman with Merrett

IMO we need to still find a consistent rebounding defender. Adcock is our only real player that can rebound well enough but he isn't exactly an A grade rebounder. Harwood is best suited to a lock down small defender imo. All the top 4 teams have 2 or 3 that can rebound well. We may well have the answer already on our team with the likes of Rich.

Cutler (apparently has one of the best kicks at the club) and Rich with their kicking would take that role I think

B: McStay Clarke Gardiner

HB: Cutler Patful Rich

C: Hanley Zorko D.Beams

HF: Mayes Martin Staker

FF: Green Close Taylor

R: Luey Rockliff Redden

Inter: Aish Paparone Adcock C.Beams

Merrett will be gone so I think after a big preseason Leppa will trust McStay, Clarke, Gardiner and Patful as the 4 key defenders which is why
Maguire might only be brought in when we're playing sides such as Sydney.

Golby, Harwood and Bewick will all be overtaken by Cutler on the HB flank, people underrate Cutler, he's a gun

McGuanne, Paine and Freeman will lose their positions to a fit Staker would have though, if not probably Freeman

No room for Lester, Robertson and Crisp with that midfield

I doubt any of the draftees will be good enough to play round 1

I think I mentioned everyone on the current senior list...

Would rather bring Goose down back and switch McStay forward with Staker off the field.
I don't think we'll need Goose next year apart for a few games like Sydney, so more likely Freeman would come in for Staker. Staker was the last player I decided on so I can understanding people not agreeing, but it form he's better than Maguire and Freeman at either end of the ground I reckon

Reckon we've said that about Goose for the last couple of years, only for him to work his way into the best 22 by mid season.

I personally think that the competition for tall defender spots will be very interesting in 2015 and, Patfull aside, I don't think any of them are an absolute lock for round 1.

assuming we lose our first 2 picks for Beams and nothing eventuates with Merrett, Patfull. if one of Lester/Crisp is in the Beams trade then Paparone into the team. If Patfull leaves then Bewick into the team (given those tagging/defensive roles he did ok in late in the season). I'm probably hoping Freeman does enough to be picked round 1 but realistically its probably McGuane if his knee is right.

has anyone seen any news on McGuane and Staker re: there availability for start of pre season?

FB: Adock Maguire Gardiner
HB: Patfull Clark Hanley
Mid: D Beams Rockliff Rich
HF: Mayes Close Taylor
FF: Freeman Leuenberger Green
Fol: Martin Zorko Redden
Bch: McStay Aish Lester Crisp

Tall Depth: Merrett, McGuane, Paine, Staker, West, Bourke (assume upgraded from rookie list)
Small Depth: Harwood, Golby, Bewick, Robertson, C Beams, Paparone, Cutler, O'Brien

other depth: 5 new players through draft or delisted free agency. (-7 players + Beams + Bourke + these 5 = net loss of zero on the list)

Why Bewick in the two's? Thought he did more than enough to cement a top 22 spot this year.
