I said during the game we needed to get Hunter Clark on ball, guys that have clean hands with better disposal efficiency, one touch players.

We kept sticking with Zak Jones on ball, he provides great run and dash out of the middle when he gets it but it's no good if he struggles to get it.

Anyway it's something to work on for next week, or next month, or next year.
In reality we have a really ordinary mid field, not too many would get regular games elsewhere. Le

the player you lost was actually the useful ones, the players we lost were negatively influencing
If the year finishes now, how do we do the draft order? We still have melbourne's 1st rounder and they finished 2nd last in 2019..........so pick 2 for us?

Do you think anyone here gives a shit?

Nah, I'm all good, I'm lucky really, not too much mortgage, a bit in the bank still. I'll get by. I kind of feel a bit excited by it all really. But like Mowman, I'm on my second bottle of red, tomorrow I'll wake up and be sorry about it all.

F*CK that...this IS the time to get a wicked hangover under the belt. No half arsed bollocks " Oh, I'm a bit sore." the next day rubbish. No. It is five rounds with Tyson before being K.O'd style hangover. You'll be busy scrambling soon enough wondering if a goon bag will break the bank. I say mix the grape & grain...and throw a few heavy I.P.A's on top. Pull out your old stash from 20 years ago, blow off the dust and blaze one up before going to bed at 4am with the wife and kids hating you because you started blaring your dad music and singing at the top of your lungs before crying that you were stopped from being in bands such as Alice in Chains, Kyuss, Tool, or Ministry, or some techno crap, by making poor "safe" life choices. Now is the time Gringo...you know it makes sense 😈😈😈

Yes, I'm a touch dusty today

What a mess eh..I reckon Ratts told the guys just to defend the lead we had at half time, as the whole team seemed to stop running and spreading and just tried to go defensive. This is similar to games we lost in previous seasons where we had a good advantage and went defensive for 15 mins in third quarters and lost the advantage..not sure yet what Ratts brings to the table, but that's to be seen when the season ever gets going again. Apart from two soft frees which saw Max get two goals, I think he is a season off yet in development.

Stay well everyone

Really depressing knowing we won’t be playing for a long time and this will be the last performance we have to look back on.

Finally no injury’s and that’s the sort of crap we dish up.

Serious question. Is it a posibillity that’s the last AFL game St Kilda ever play.

What makes you think that, mate? Surely there are a number of clubs that will face huge financial worries because of the postponement of fixtures, not just St Kilda? In such exceptional circumstances, surely the AFL has a duty of care towards its member club to ensure their survival?

Some thoughts from the entire game now that my emotions have moved beyond anger.

- Long was impressive. To go off in a lot of pain (after a great mark) and return still willing to hit every contest hard and fly should be commended. He seems settled and comfortable at half back.

- Ryder did some good things but I prefer Marshall playing the majority of the game in the ruck. He is at his best when he is around the ball and rucking for the entire game. Something that stood out a lot was he only had 1 clearance today - averaged over 6 in the second half of last year. His midfielder like qualities is what makes him stand out among most other ruckman and by not letting him spend the game working over his opponent, he loses his best qualities.

- I liked Paton's game (and preseason). He has consistently shown to be AFL quality and we need to be playing him as often as possible. Hunter also did some good things - always impressed how he manages to evade traffic. Neither were prolific but both did some good things. i give them both a pass for todays game.

- Why was Ross playing half back? He has won two best and fairest's, made an AA squad, is in the prime of his career and playing half back while we are being smashed in the middle for a half. That was just dumb coaching. Sure, he has deficiencies but when we are crumbling as a side it would be a great idea to play out best midfielder in the middle (some won't like that statement but until anyone else produces consistently good seasons like him or stays on the parks for more than 5 games than it is 100% true)

- Billings played really well but I think we would be better and more potent if he played half forward instead of Kent. Kent could be a good player, but his 'almost' being able to do everything is killing us. Know that we have many more midfielders to rotate through, Billings would be more damaging at half forward. Ive said it a lot but JB can impact a game at half forward more than most players in the comp. Play him there and give us a POD.

- The midfield, overall, should be the most disappointed with today. Steele should have gone onto Cunnington at any stage of the second half. Gresh's first half was bad. Hanner's fine but would expect more from someone like him when we were under siege. Dunstan could have been better. Hill super disappointing to disappear completely. Jones showed signs but the ball use/decision making/goal kicking cost us when it mattered. Hopefully that stings with them during this suspended period and they dont turn up such a pathetic display again.

- Roberton was clearly underdone and looked like someone who hadn't played in 2 years. He also shouldn't be playing as a lock down defender. Geary also looked underdone to me. Wilkie was fine and Howard did a great job on Ben Brown. Another who can hold their head high. We would have been better if Carlisle played.

- Forward line was a worry over the off season but looked functional in the first half at least. Hard to tell in the second since the ball didnt get down there after the first 3 minutes. That said, goal kicking just has to be better. Membrey was quiet and didnt have his usual sticky hands. Butler did lots good but some bad moments (why cant he kick 40m? this seems like a new issues no one knew about). Lonie was non existent. Kent was almost good but also entirely bad.

- King didnt have the most notable debut but he go through the game which is all we wanted. Two goals is a great return from not much ball. And most importantly, after that preseason display, he actually kicked straight. They were easy shots, but him kicking straight late in the 4th quarter to regain the lead in his first game was a big moment so Im glad he didnt screw it up.

Overall, it was a disappointing ending what should have been a good performance. We went from playing exciting, risky, flowing football in the first half to suddenly playing safe and stagnant. And its such a sour note to have sitting around for this unknown period of time. Hopefully the players are as disappointed and angered by that display as we were.

Parker not fit yet
Battle for mine. Hasn’t had big numbers but is very clean with all his work. Strong mark, excellent shot for goal and brilliant by foot. We were fumbly and unconvincing across the park (midfield in particular).
Sorry fella's - I was taking the p*** because people who were saying we should have won if we played A, B or C instead of playing X, Y or Z. That's nonsense.

We would have won with the side we selected if Ryder hadn't fumbled in the goal square, if Marshall hadn't missed from 20 metres out, if King hadn't missed from 20 metres out, if Jones hadn't missed from 20 metres out, if Butler had kicked from 40 metres out etc etc etc .

And we would have won comfortably with the selected team if they'd all done the right thing.

1st (and unfortunately the last game of the season) and we dominated the first half and then ran out of steam after the rain fell. I was still excited half way through the last quarter about the seasons prospects until I read that SA and WA were closing borders and after that I really didn't care what happened.

I somehow doubt that. No I think it's much more likely we burnt all our energy missing targets and kicking points and then got overrun by a side that actually showed some competence by foot.

Nailed it BT. Long was definitely a standout coming back on after that injury and laying some huge tackles and taking the game on. He really appears to be a leader in the group to me.
And Paton is just so clean with everything he does. One of the few in the side you can trust with the ball.

Dunno, I've played under coaches who were happy to get in front and defend a good lead- it works sometimes. We had a good pre season, no excuses for lack of energy- they were short quarters too. I think the forward line structure as it was yesterday, didn't work

We were outcoached, by a rookie coach. Went too short on the forward line. Kent, Butler, Lonie, thats half the forward line, and too short.
Yet we had more scoring shots, more inside 50's, more forward tackles than them - if you are looking for the main reason we lost it's simple - we didn't kick straight!!!!!

Bloody hell that was deflating. And now at least 2 months of remembering how sh1t we are to rub it in for the long haul.

I just hope the club uses this time to accelerate the young bloods into the 22 and we can finally bury the past at this trade season.
At least we showed some signs in the first half, but this game did little else than reconfirm my existing prejudices.
I no longer give a crap about wins in this whole stupid scenario. Give me Bytel, Coff, Clav and Byrnes please.
