Interesting comment at the end towards Ginbey. Getting big wraps already.

Rhino said he was talking to NN recently at a launch event, and Nic told him he's the most highly talented/impressive kid he's seen come through the club since he has been there. Made some comparisons to early Fyfe.

Hey, I'd be happy to see Reuben sitting in a bath with a Brownlow around his neck some day

I sorta remember the hype Duggan had. Hopefully he goes better but Duggo seems to get injured each time he gets going

Duggan would be our next captain except for injury issues ....great clubman hopefully has a good run this season .
Premiership player who played his part in 2018 .
Duggan came into the system as a a great user of the ball but that dropped off. Had he still had that he’d be a great defender as well as a leader.

How does Long get a gig over Hewett?

He's trained harder and impressed more.

Also feel this is a good call on several levels.

We have two Vic Country kids debuting in their home state which is great for them and their families.

This will sting a bit for Hewett and hopefully gets him to another level. He's a cocky kid so not getting a round 1 debut will check the ego a tad.

Hewett can debut at Optus later when he's earned it and built his endurance level.

The tactical sub could be Hewett's way in early this year if he is lacking endurance. He's certainly an impact player.

Seems to be the done thing with clubs these days announcing debutants a few days out

Think they’ve seen it’s an easy PR exercise
You can bet good news Gary was pushing for this.

I still find it very odd though, still 4 days from the game. I'm sure Norf appreciate it though.

North love it. The families of our two Vic kids debuting plus all of Hunt's mates and family will be flocking to the game. They should get get a decent crowd for a change.;)

I still reckon Duggans best season of footy was his debut year.

Played some solid seasons since, but that first year was certified exciting.

I'll be scratching my head if Culley gets left out after Chesser, the bloke everyone said we'll be super patient with, who hasn't strung together much football, is named.

Especially after the Culley pre season hype.

If anything i actually think Chesser would suit the sub, if there's no Hewett. Slowly eases him into it, he'll come on fresh.

Chesser, Long and Ginbey debuting along with Hunt.

This announcement has given me real nervous poo energy, the likes of which I haven’t felt since the 2018 finals series. Let’s get it!!

Only way Culley misses is if he's picked up an injury or niggle of some sort. And we dont know about it yet.

North announced Sheezel was debuting earlier today.

Carlton did theirs yesterday

Expect more teams to follow suit tomorrow and Thursday

Bit of a bold call, based on what though?

Wasn't he left out of our senior team vs Adelaide recently? Then ran out and played in the magoos afterwards?

Doesn't scream injury to me Cotton.

With today’s announcement, it leaves 3 spots to be filled (including the sub) by my reckoning

Assuming they’re fit, there’s 14 definite starters -

Backs - McGovern, Barrass, Hurn, Duggan, Cole
Mids - Shuey, Yeo, Kelly, Sheed, Gaff
Forwards - Darling, Allen, Cripps, Ryan

Williams and Jamieson will share the ruck then add the 3 debutants plus Hunt as confirmed starters and it makes 20

The backline looks full which would likely rule out Witherden and Hough

One spot for a mid out of Culley, O’Neill, Clark or West

One spot for a forward out of Petruccelle, Waterman, Jones or Petrevski-Seton

The sub to come from one of the leftover mids or forwards

If some of those established players aren’t feeling some pressure, they should be. Plenty of younger players pushing for their chance

* I deliberately left Hewett out on the basis that since he wasn’t named today he’s likely not playing but he’ll be with the others pressing for an opportunity
