Agreed, Croad could defend one-on-one and intercept, he would often then bomb the ball back out as far as possible.

When our midfield was poor at defending, Trent would also get beaten in one-on-ones through good opposition delivery.

People have very fond memories of Trent, and he was a very effective backman, but everyone has their limitations. The only clear difference I can recall between him and Frost is when Trent had the ball and ran he would often dump kick to space or 1-v-1 contests, whereas Frost runs/carries/tries to hit up team-mates and turns it over more.

Totally agree with this. It's a different kettle of fish shutting someone down in the backline than in the midfield. Finn is a master playing that run with role where he wears his oppo player like a glove using his ridiculous endurance to just not let them get the ball whilst not getting a lot of the ball himself. Have to be accountable in the backline and until he proves he can go get the ball himself he'll remain a one dimensional tagger in the midfield albeit the best in the league atm.

The point is the potential gains if Finn can play a back pocket role are huge. Finn can then play dual roles and switch to mid tagging if someone is killing us, allows Hardwick forward who can come back if Finn needs to tag. Aligns to the flexibility direction we seem to be building. It’s worth looking at this year at least as this is hopefully our last development year before we start to sharply rise.

Been thinking about how we would end up fitting all our fwds and mids into the side, not to sure if the coaches will settle on this but couldn't we make room by playing less specialist wings?
With some of the positional moves like Amon to HB, Jiath to the wing, we could rotate alot of guys through the flanks and wings:

Mackenzie W/Mid
Ward W/Mid
Macdonald W/HF
Moore HF/W
Gunston HF/W

You could do the same thing with the centre rotating Macdonald, Ward, Mackenzie, Moore through it along side Newcombe, Nash, Worpel and Maginness.

And then on top of all this you got guys like Maginness who can start on a wing or a flank at bounce and then go tag someone, Hardwick can be swung back, Breust can do stints in the square.

So worst case players don't get up for Rd 1, here is my updated side prediction:
