Interesting selections. Not sure we should go with 3 talls at either end...Would have swapped McGuane for a small and used Griffiths at whichever end he was needed.

White seems stiff.

Well this might explain it:
"RADIO host Neil Mitchell claims AFL players are using Viagra in a bid to boost performance.
The 3AW presenter says sources in the football community who have told him the drug is "extremely popular" among players."
:)

Is that why they go so hard at it?

I think it will be a weather issue. If it looks like being wet i would think White will come in for Griff, if it looks to be dry then they will line up as selected.

If it's wet weather that's the reason, I'd lean more towards Vlas...better the hardnut than the runner.

Maybe vlas is being saved to debut in round 2, when there isn't so much heat and pressure on a game in front of 70k. Or maybe they are waiting to see what the conditions are like. No need to blow up guys.

Not long now till jacko is out, pettard foley grimes and vlas to come in. There won't be room for jacko in the emergencies!

Not a bad team, I personally would have played White and Vlastuin instead of Jackson and Batchelor but it's no big deal.

Disappointed that Petterd is injured, hope he's back soon.

I'm starting to wonder if Batchelors selection is down to his ability to play tall and small (despite poor season form) to give us some flexibility depending on the side Carlton named.

Batchelor can't play tall or small.

His value to the side is very limited given we have Rance, Chaplin and Griffiths and given that Carlton's forward line is not that tall his role should be more a rebounder but he has terrible skills.

Anyway, I reckon we might win this game. Will be very close.

GEEZ you can't seriously be worrying about who is going to stop Dennis Armfield?

Who is going to negate Houlis rebound, Ellis's run, Martins influence, Newmans delivery, Griggs ball winning, Edwards around goal.....goes both ways. Neither side can stop a whole team.
I Agree, Armfield isn't much, we saw his NAB GF performance. Reckon that's why he maybe starting on the bench.

I actually rate Armfield. He's no champion but you know that he's going to go flat out at every contest and you've got to admire that. Same can't be said for a few other Blues players.
They have some very hard nuts in Duigan, Robinson and Armfield, but some who clearly don't like getting their hands dirty at all.

I'm expecting a brutal contest tonight. Just hope we go hard for 4 quarters and the bounce of the ball falls our way.

Im more worried about the weather than the scum bags team.

Time - Weather - Temp - Chance of Rain - Cloud Cover - Wind - Dew Point - Humidity

6pm
possible_shower.gif
Intermittent rain - Windy 18°C - 68% - 39% - WSW 36km/h - 9°C - 52%
9pm
mostly_clear.gif
Mostly clear - 16°C - 17% - 28% WSW 26km/h - 7°C - 56%

The 68% chance of rain at 6pm dropping to 17% at 9 (and wind dropping 10km/h) is very encouraging. Looks as though it will be mostly dry.

This one feels like the gold coast game when i heard Maric was out and Graham was in. McGuane and Jackson will always make too many mistakes when it matters, although people will see them do a few good things and not watch fully and see the bad little things they do that add up to deflate a team. Nahas will try like always but is just too easy to knock off the ball.

We are playing this safe and i think its not going to end well. I hope i am wrong though.

Try looking from a different perspective. McGaune gets goals, unfashionable but he still gets them. Jackson is a big body player that we need in the middle for brute strength and Nahas always gets on the end of a 2 or 3 and applies pretty good forward pressure. Opposition teams rate Nahas because he can be a damaging player.

Pretty hard to look at the positive being a long time Richmond supporter. I would love to see these three do only the positives you speak of and i end up looking like a complete fool. Just dont want to see Jackson kill our momentum, McGuane to give away silly frees when it looks like we will score. Nahas can be great, i just think he runs into brick walls a lot and thats the best way to play him from an opposition perspective.

Ive got agree with you here. Sometimes I think we will be great but then I look at the actual team we field and I go into a dark place. At the moment thoughts of a 50 point drubbing and Dimma gone in 6 weeks is creeping in.
But if I focus on Cotch and Martin and not Mcguanne and Jackson things get better.

Some people on here are calling for Dimmas head and we haven't even kicked a ball. Yes I was a bit surprised with the team selection, but how about we wait until after the game before we blast him for it, who knows we might actually win?

I understand that most of you wanted to see our new boys in and I'm much the same, but maybe it's just a case of them not fitting straight into the team and needing a bit of time to adjust. Chaplin you can see why he's playing, tried and true performer who's been around long enough to know the ins and outs. The others might not have coped with being thrown in the deep end.

Most of us are long time tiger supporters, it's been awhile. Don't get me wrong, the three you mentioned only one of I think, could potentially play in a premiership team. That doesn't mean the other two aren't important in the journey their.

So if they are so bad why does the senior coach and match committee persist with them?
